I'll try anything. I was always a Blizzard fan especially since like Diablo and loved Starcraft / Warcraft 3. how could I refuse WoW?
so played it for a few months then left. good game, just not good for me
However I got friends, best friends and they wont freakin' leave WoW. and to take the cake half of them tried out LOTRO!
I dont mind WoW being good and addictive and all that jazz but wow it's really got my buds hooked. They wont even try another game and if they do they keep comparing it to WoW. just got off the phone with my ole friend he talked about WoW for hours

They will leave eventually. A friend of mine finally stop playing EQ this year long after I or a few other of our friends left.

If they're the type that won't even try another game I doubt they ever will until they are truly sick of the game. If they have been playing the game longer than you and busted their ass to get gear, it's understandable. Also, everybody is always gonna compare the game they've been playing to the one they're trying. A bunch of my friend's were the same with FFXI. Only 1 of them eventually started to play WoW when he noticed more of his friends started playing. It's the same thing now... I'm waiting for WAR or Aion. I told my friends I'm probably going to switch to one of them. Most of them don't want to leave since they put in so much work. I don't like playing the same game forever. It's been 3 years of WoW and once something better comes along I'm out.
Just keep your eyes peeled, WoW might kill itself by releasing a new MMO from blizzard, there is promises for 2 other games or thing in work, that Blizz hasnt released, and for all you people with Diablo 3 rumors, Blizzard stsys true to its series, and Warcraft was most popular therefor it developed fastest, D2 team has less then 100 people on it, but maybe that has changed since last year... lets just keep our eyes peeled.
The way WoW will die is through the power of WAR.
I am in the same situation. I have a big group of friends, a whole guild on WoW, that has been there since launch. For many of them it is their first MMO so they do not feel the need to try others, especially after years of building their characters. In fact all weekend long they were bugging me to try the BC trial and now I probably will because I miss kicking it with them and want to reconnect.
Some good news for me though is that it looks like a lot of them actually want to try WAR when it comes out, so I hope it is good.

bah I cant let him go out like this. I'm just going to get him to try EVE and bring him to 0.0 this has just gotta end. I'll gank him myself if I have too lol
He is having fun, leave him alone. What is so wrong about enjoying World of Warcraft?
Even if he does quit, he'll be back in a couple months, I can't tell you how many times I've quit that game, found out there's nothing better and went back.
Really until you have something really good to switch em too it will be a hard sell. Maybe try and get him to at least commit to buying WAR with you and trying that out at release, it seems like one that has enough gameplay elements to really appeal to a Wow vet.
You're that annoying friend that has to make people try things because he thinks what he likes is better than what everyone else likes - unless of course they like the same thing as you.
Why don't you give up on your games and play what he likes? and for that matter what even more of your friends like? ...you are alone dude, do the math, who is it really that is liking the crappy game hmmm?

QFT!
All games will be shut down sooner or later...All games are good in some way and in every game you can find something good and something bad about it. Its just question of personal preferences...Its like do you like green or blue colour...bouth are ok but some prefer one some other.
I will quit WoW when i find descent replacement...i tryed Eve online, EQ series, craps like Space Cowboy and other grind fests you can find trough this forum...thing is that i started with WoW and i like many others will leave that game only when something better is released.
I will be first in line to buy warhammer, tabula rasa and AoC but that doesnt mean ill play it...maybe i install it and auto delete when i see that its WoW copy and why should i leave WoW after 3 years of character development? For something what is same but with different graphics...

Would you like some cheese with that whine?
I'm not a WoW fan but I agree with your post.
Let people enjoy the game of their choice.

Every game will fall eventually. Sometime in the future a game will come out and it will be the new king of the MMO world. But none of the games currently in development I feel will come close. Most of the up and coming games are filling a niche, whether it's PvP,RP etc. It will be 3-4 years till we see the start of the MMO that will dethrone WoW. Some game company will take advantage of the new tech's out at the time and will take a step away from the copy/paste world of MMO's and develop something that will catch the imagination of the masses.
Right now we as gamers have little choice. Yes there is a plethora of games out there to choose from but for the most part they are just copy/pastes of prior games with a bit more finesse and are following the same finance route that EQ did. Each expansion gets more time consuming via the use of timesinks. Whether those are in the form of keying or attunements or multiple hour long raids. Even WoW which has touted itself as casual friendly is slowly going this route. It is a solid financial plan to be sure as the longer you can keep folks playing equates to more people paying the monthly fee longer. For all intents and purposes at their very core right now each MMO is the same, some may be dressed up a bit nicer than others but at their base core they are replica's of one another. Someone out there right now knows this and is starting the legwork on the MMO that will break the mold and in 3-4 years we will see what they have come up with.
Until then we are stuck with the same old same old. It's just like a cup of coffee, some folks like it black, others like cream and sugar. But in the end they are all drinking coffee.
But no, if they are enjoying the game you'll have to leave them be. Eventually they'll come to the same understanding as the rest of the enlightened and they'll play another game. Time is on your side Vas......

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Anyway.. just leave him alone.. seriously.. if he is having fun why ruin is fun? Shesh.. you seam very freaken annoying as a friend.
Just play WOW with him.. not like there's anything better.. I know i've tried it all. I currently quit MMOs all together untill something worthy comes along. For now i've been playing STALKER and Oblivion depending on my mood. If I want sword and board.. Oblivion.. If I want to slaughter people with my grenade launcher.. STALKER.. I also pre-orderd Bioshock and will get Crysis when it releases. So the many options of game depending on my mood with no monthly commitment is a nice thing.
Sure it costs more in the long run to buy these games, but it's more enjoyable when you compare the amount of playtime you get from an MMO. The reason for this is MMOs go for longativity.. they want to milk you for every penny. This introduces tediums. Like exp grinding. Armor grinding. Quest grinding. Mob farming.. all things to keep you playing long as possible. I'm hoping AoC/Tabula Rasa can either eliminate or hide those tediums very well or i'll probably be done with MMOs.. forever. As for now.. i'm having a blast in my 2 current games. With downloaded mods it's like a single player MMO anyway....

I voted for begging. But I think you should wait a bit for better games to come out.
yeah he was bragging about his epix and how when he goes to Battlegrounds he just let's his 6year old kid get on his toon and farm honor points for him. I was like dude that's just messed up your little boy is farming all these epix for you its obvious how WoW PVP is straight up easy mode.
good post yo
I'd rather play EVE or a good old school MMO with horrid graphics. I just cant stand Classes and Levels. I'm unsure how to classify myself I guess I'm a virtual world gamer? A gamer that wants fairly realistic game rules. like, I dont mind safe zones as long as there are 'guards' like EVE has to enforce that.
WAR- I jsut wouldnt last long in that game but I guess I'll need to be open to the possibility if I want to reunite with my old guild.
this sucks I'm puking at the thought of being confined to a 'Class'
zomfg thats the exact same thing for me. . the exact thing you typed out is exactly what happens with me and my "friends"
add: " just got off the phone with my ole friend he talked about WoW for hours"
im sitting on bench at some park with a couple of my friends and there just babaling on about their raid last night and what happened/ what should have happened. for at least an hour until i just got up and left.
