adding icons and reassigning combos take 5 months.. what is the size of the funcom's development team. It is fun to hear that the delay is due to a GUI update. Normally, if the game is working, they can release it first. They can at the same time doing the updates on the GUI based on player's feedback. I don't think it will be a serious problem becoz the GUI is not userfriendly enough at release. and what I wanna say is that there is always no perfect. You delay 5 months to do your updates, your beta tester gives another complain and you delay another 5 months. It is real ridiculous.
If that truly was all, I'd agree with you
However, such a radical change is bound to completely screw over the balancing they've done between classes, prompting reworks and adjustments across the board. In addition, there are likely several smaller items they are currently working on. Like I mentioned in another thread, one of the first rules of programming is that you are never truly done working on a piece of code. There is and always will be bugs, glitches, and simply items that can be improved or consolidated. The best you can ever hope for, particularly with a program as large as an MMO, is that it works better than 99% of the time.
All this that you're saying makes me wonder.... Are we actually going to see PvP and Siege combat at Leipzig??
I mean they said they'll never show anything that isn't ready?
Will be interesting to see what they do.

More like 4 or 5, but I see your point.
But after them saying that it "Will" be out for certain on Oct. 30th. is it really that unexpected?

Pfft a delay is ALWAYS a good thing. It would have been a bad thing for them to tell their beta-testers 'we don't give a F what you think' which is EXACTLY what VG did. Instead, they bite the bullet and delay the game to improve those things the beta-testers said need improved upon.
Can anyone who's ever beta-tested a game, and then seen that game get pushed back, say it wasn't dramatically for the better? I've tested dozens of games, and I can't think of a single one.
Nope, you are point on. Also, as one of those Vanguard testers I felt a major slap in the face when they launched the game like that.

I joined the Vanguard open beta three days from launch, the problems I went through just trying to get the client downloaded from them was hell enough. I was a bit taken back when I saw the state of the game at T-3 days from launch. Regardless I stuck with it for a couple months and moved on.
Did you also get the feeling the game took a step backwards from beta to launch?

A 5 month delay announced so close to the 'expected' release date is not a good thing.... not at all.
