After all of the problems of diablo2 with the hacking and cheating and innocent people being banned in the process, I finally decided tonight that I should cave in and get Warcraft 3.

All my friends say its great so I decided I'd try it out, and I buy th ebattle chest of both games.  Well after installing it, I now have a new deep hatred for Blizzard.  I have a brand new computer that is less than a month old, and because Blizzard is a bunch of morons and didn't make the game compatable with Geforce Fx models, my game doesn't feed in video.

I tried all the things posted on Blizzard's site, but none of them worked.  ANd the video test they say to use leads to a dead link, which is more than frustrating.  And now I can't even post on their god damn forums because you need an account ame, password and cd-key?!  Thats abusrd.  I can't even get in the game to set up an account and I can't even post on the forums to get help to run the game?  Talk about a Catch-22.

I am ready to throw in the towel and give up on Blizzard.  It's easy ot see how they ruined the Ghost project already.  I don't see what other choice I have but to wait "several days" for the dev's to get back to my email.  My next step is to return the game and burn my diablo2 disks as well.

If this is any indication of Blizzards skill, customer service, or general occurances, they're doomed.

hmm, something sounds a little fishy with that.  its hard to belive that this is happening.  is it the video that isnt working right, like the intor's and stuff or is it the actual game play, and one thing to check is your DirectX settings as this can lead to a whole slew of problems.

also, did you build the machine youself or is it something that was bought pre-assembled like a dell FOR EXAMPLE, or did a friend build it.

also, next time you post a problem, be sure to post a full list of your system spec's, it makes it easier to help you out=)

The video has been working just fine for Call of Duty and Unreal Tourny 2k4.  I have updated DirectX, and the computer was built for my at a show with all name brand parts, and has been working flawlessly till now.  I have no choice but to blame it on the game.

That doesnt mean you have updated drivers.  Try that.

with the B net forums, all you do is just sign up with your CD-Key and create a username and password. simple as that.

No, I was telling you that I went out and updated the drivers.  I tried three seperate updates, none of them work.

Can't make a username and password unless you get on b-net through a game, and since I lost my D2 key I'd have to use the WC3 one, and since that isn't working on my computer, I can't make one.  Catch 22...

No offence but you really cant logically blame it on the game if hundreds of thousands of other people can play it just fine, unless the CD is scratched or something.  Something you have is interfering with the game... what video card do you have exactly?

this is true about the drivers... for my self, i make it a habbit to download new drivers on a monthly basis... and as posted above also, creating a user account on b.net isnt that hard, i dont think you have to make it inside of the game.

one other thing that you could try is giving blizzard a call.  you have the internet i see, so im sure that you have a phone =)

it is summer vaction for most people right now, and if you have a job, call during a lunch break, or call before or after work.

keep in mind, there are many solutions to one problem...

and by the way, i have a gforce fx 5200, and i dont have any problems with it, what kind of card is it that you have?

Why would you want Warcraft 3 anyways, that game sucks, so dont feel too bad you cant play it. Id way rather play a good old game of starcraft broodwar.

Any game though that has a fan base as big as blizzards, is GOING to have hackers though, there is no way around it. Hopefully with MMORPGs though, there will be far less of them because of the monthly fee, and constant server watch.

Heh, geforce fx 5200, 128bit 256mb.  I got no idea what the problem can be.  As soon as I got the computer I updated everything I could think of, directx (all the games i installed also updated directx 9.0b versions as well).  I really have no idea what the problem is, but Blizzards call hours suck, they fall mostly during my work hours, and I don't have a computer at anything during work and cell phone use isn't exactly common.  I'm just at a loss here.  I've never had the problems that I'm having now...

What do you mean it doesn't work on Geforce FX? I have an FX5900 Ultra and I have no problems with it. There was a problem a while ago with Warcraft3 not playing the movies with Geforce but they fixed it with updated drivers. I doubt it's the game's fault

Check here if you have Win2000/XP http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.72

Do you have the latest version?

Yes, I installed it... twice.  Still nothing.  Does the reso have to be a certain setting, or the color bit?  I'm really at a loss here.

Edit:  I can watch the previews on the cd but I still can't run the game.  I'm going to sleep because I got work tomorrow, but I'll check this thread to see if anyone can find out some info...

one thing that i had a problem with a long time ago was a bad version of direct x.  some people may know of this.  what it did was installed new direct x 8.1 drivers, and then, after about 6 months i think, the drivers expired... hmm, thats odd, so i just went to the microsoft site and got the even newer dx drivers.  after i installed them, the game wouldnt run at all, it would start and everything, but it was just toast when i actualy tried to play it.

when i was on the line with tech support, they said that htey had had this problem come up, and they had me look at a few things.  when i went to do a dxdiag in the run line, it came up with an error, or the dxdiag didnt say what version was installed.  unfortunatly, there was nothing that they could do about this, since microshaft would be third party to them.

i did a little reading around, and i saw that quite a few people had this problem, and that there wern't many solutions to it.  some people even claimed that reformatting their computer didnt even help.  there was one option though, this guy, he made a direct x uninstall program.  you had to do some interesting things to make it work, but in the end, it did end up working for me.

if you think your issue is related to dx, please let me know, and i can give you the file.  ive saved it for a long time, just in case i ran into somone that had the same issure as me.  let me know... the email address is rallen@makualla.org

ps.  try around with differant settings, things like the resolution and colors, this may be the key, weird things like that can happen sometimes.  also play with the driver settings, the things that would be in the advanced button, and under the tab named after your video card.  if all else fail,re-install the driver, and it should take all the settings back to default.

also search for the same issue in other forums, simmaler to this one... remember, google is your best friend on the internet, if you dont know it well, you should get to know it, let me introduce it to you www.google.com =) it works wonders

Well put, dont judge blizzard hack prevention on those. But they had great customer service when i needed it. The game was solid and changed gaming as we knew it, i mean. It was a free ONLINE game that was unheard of at least when D1 came out. Props to blizzard.

......USER ERROR.  Maybe ya really need to figure out how to use a computer first.  I'm a fan of ATI (antother reason i dislike EQ) and sadly at the moment i am forced into useing a GFoce FX 5600.  To tell you frankly my WC3 runs without a hitch.  As far as the hacking of Diablo 2, you have to undeerstad that because games such as that and along with RTS the companies to not place as large of a preverbial lock on their servers in order to speed the login and start game processes of their games.  With and MMORPG however using a stronger servercode as Blizzard will do makes sense because a player usually logs into the world for 2hrs+.  I also have the video test, that u said was dead.  For blizzards post i belive it makes sense to force a cd-key, another way to slap the faces of anyone willing to dupe up a cd-key.  If you don't have a cd-key but still want to talk about the game its a little obvious that you are running on a copy u didn't pay for.  Try learning how to properly install a program before comeplaing about it.

P.S. The game runs on my friends GeForce FX 5200 as wellimage

Bah, a double post for me.  Anyways ur obviously either lying or seriously confused right here.  You say that you can't use ur WC3 cd-key to make an account because the game won't run on your computer.  Since when does a game need to be running in order for you to look on the back front of your cd case and read the cd-key, heck i can even do it with my computer turned off, isn't that crazy.image

Thats funny because I have a GeforceFX 5200 and the game runs fine for me, not a single glitch.  Like some of the other people mentioned, check your drivers.  One time something like that happened to me and all I had to do was download the latest drivers and I was set.  Hope that helps.

Well I am going to mention something no one else has. It is known to me (because my cousins friends dad works at blizzard I SWEAR TO GOD) That they are completly hyping up the security of battle.net. Supposidly revolutionizing it into what i call Battle.net 2.0. Obviously it will be hacekd sooner or later (as everything is) but that may mean a solid game wioutout hacks from 7-10 years before someone hacks it. This is no different from any other MMORPG since all of them will (or already have) been hacked or cracked or *insert random stuff here*

That is my 2 cents on the subject

  • CrestguardCrestguard Member Posts: 112

User error?  I put in the cd and hit install, after it's done I run the game.  What else should there be?  Every other game I've ever owned has worked just like that.  Yes I have checked my drivers.  Yes I have *RE*-checked my drivers.  I have the newest versions of everything.

I have no reason to lie about this, I already chose EQ2 over WoW for numerous reasons (that is not the point of this anymore) but with my inability to create a b-net account I can't post on the forums, and apparently this is the only place I can even attempt at finding some sort of solution.

It's not my computer, since it runs more complex games, and it's not the discs since I can view the video previews on both reign of chaos and frozen throne, but when I start up either one it instantly goes to a black screen / kills the feed to my monitor and I can hear the sound, but it seems also like my keyboard won't respond unless it's a command to exit the game or minimize it.

What surprises me is that there are several other documented cases on various forums but none of them have responses to fix the bug. Also, any download from the Blizzard site for a video test or patch upgrade ends up as dead links.  Finally, if this is how Blizzard runs without getting back to their clients, I can't even imagine how D2 lasted this long.  I'm glad I never ran into serious issues there, because I remember the wait for response on b-net was longer than anything I'd ever seen.  Never could have had the patience to sit through that.

EDIT: I brought out my old laptop and installed warcraft 3 on there, after about 2 minutes of play it crashed my computer and started dumping all my memory to disk.  There is no chance in hell I'll ever trust Blizzard again.  A game that is two years old, after being re-released is glitchier than most games are in beta?  I searched google and there are countless problems with Blizzard and B-Net, I'm amazed you can actually get away with selling products that don't work...

  • VakktnVakktn Member Posts: 746

I had the same problem with my GeForce FX 5600 256 mb vid card... I would see the intro movies but when it was over black screen... I could hear the sounds of the menu but no menu...I fiddled around with some setting on my computer.... come to find out that the game was running on a Refresh Rate that was too high for my MONITOR to handle... So I had to override all the refresh settings to 60 hz (Old monitor need an upgrade haha). You can change the refresh rate settings by right clicking desktop>properties>settings>advanced> Then chose your vid card "Tab" should see a little menu.

Once I did that I ran the game fine with no problems =D...

Btw your crashing to desktop and memory leak might be cuz you dont have the latest update for W3 and TFT...

    Hope that helps you
