Are we talking 'WoW-like' as in grossly over rated and generic, or as in wildly popular and revolutionary.. which isn't WoW at all.. If anything, it will be Warhammer, it's the spiritual sucessor to WoW and it already has an immense player base.
I'm defining "wow-like" as:
- Very few glitches
- Original game ideas (well, WOW isn't too original, but in today's market there's so much out there that by comparison, WOW was comparitavely original when it was released.)
Pirates of the Burning Sea gets my vote. All the others are clones. POTBS is the only one of it's kind, and it will attract lots of EVE players.
I would have voted for AOC if it wasn't for the fact that there are TONS of copycat types coming out just like it.
- Phos
AAH! A troll fire! Quick, pour some Kool-Aid on it!!!
BY WOW I MEAN wow-like grossly,wow-like Subcriptions going over 8 million, wow like popular and more.
and two Warhamme online has RVR.and those type of MMORPG will live as long RVR is fun the min RVR dies and get borning is the min. that Warhammer online will die.
As i ahve sayed it is Age of conan its has PVE,PVP,player housing and player city,Siege Combat ,it has a Single-player which has a story line.and it has the right setting.and it has great graphics from what i have seen.
There will never be another wow....it came out at a time when there was a serious lack of games...it was able to be played on pretty much every machine, was easy, and had pretty graphics. It also had a bunch of young kids growing up where this was there first mmorpg..the next generation so to say..
Possibly the next generation will have their own wow but we won't see anything with these numbers in the next ten years...and also there are way too many games coming out so the population will be split amongst them all.
I can equate wow to eq....it was the mmorpg for my generation...there was nothing like it....it truely was reveloutionary for it's time.....wow is the successor to eq even though they are way different.
None of those games will be the next WoW. They're most likely going to be better than WoW, but they certainly won't get as many subs as WoW.
We're going to have to wait a while before something even comes close to WoW's sub number.
none!
Im with you but there will be no wow: There is no game with a company like blizzard with their great great great marketing work! and a game needs a great marketing work to be as succes as wow; cause when it gets out, he got nothing new, but, it was succes reaching lot of people who was never played a mmo. All this people will take wow as their first game, and will compare everything with it, also its not the first, and it got not the features like more old mmorpg got (for exemple, uo, shadowbane...).
Seems today mmorpg lost their RPG status to be action game, the industry is getting out nothing new, nothing with the taste of an mmorpg, also, the rpg that are not mmo, arent like the old baldurs gate, and first person rpg (menzoberranzan etc...) today is everything action based with no In Character world. The revolution will come, surely, when a game can change this, can bring old players back, and can attrack the "newest" with something different.
perhaps a new version of UO, or, perhaps, AoC can bring something interesting, Im not comparing. In other way, seems, that WaR got, already, lot of fanbois and peep that think it will become the new wow, this is important, and perhaps, it brings, not in the interface, not in the game, characters, features nothing new, but, perhaps, only perhaps; the rvr system and the pvp development will make it the new wow.
Think this cause pvp is the end of every game, when you trained your toon during 50 or 60 levels in pve, you want to know if you can face a "epical fight" versus another human, so, this can bring succes to this game. Conan, is also focused on this, but, perhaps if its to competitive (like guild wars) will take out the casual players, or the people dont wanna take it too seriously, so it can bring it succes down.
Just look at the most hyped game, on the front page... damnit.

All I do is PvP, but I can see where they are coming from. Unfortunately I'm one of like 10 people in my clan that lives for PvP, and when I pitched warhammer/AoC to them that's exactly why they said they'll never play, PvPer asshats. I'm sure they aren't the only ones that feel that way.
So unless a game offers the breadth and width of PvE content that WoW does, and the PvE game is satisfying, most wow players won't even give it a second glance. That was why WoW players tried DDO out and were gone within a week. No content...
If a game is PvP centric, the content always suffers. Look at GW... This is why WoW sucked the life out of SWG (aside from the developers committing murder to the game). SWG players had nothing better to do. You can write off any pvp centric game immediately as not being a threat to WoW.
Again, I am a PvPer myself but have to admit that most people in my age group aren't interested in PvP games because it's what the 13 year olds play, and they, well, act like they are 13. That's why addignore is one of the most frequently used non combat commands in SWG for me. They can say what they like as long as I don't have to see it

I am looking forward to AOC but I voted for Warhammer. Why? Generic Mcdonalds type MMO. cartoonish graphics that are light on system specs and appeals to the masses. Especially first time players that just want to be entertained.
AOC will be a much better game but can't gain as many subs. To dependent on hardware. It's all new and revelutionary and will appleal more to veteran players with good computers.
There should be a game that mix Age of Conan with Warhammer Online, each one lacks of anything that the other has.
Example
- Massive PVP (probably WAR is better in this)
- Combos (Age of Conan)
We'll most likely need to wait until at least December 2008 to see how many of these games have actually been released. Aion, for instance, will probably be the last on this list to be released and that will be late in 2008, I should predict.
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

I would have to say Tabula Rasa due to the fact that it's a Richard Garriott game.
Warhammer will have a little more pvp, it's going to be designed to level off pvp. AOC pvp is more suited to old hardcore people though. DAOC and Lineage 2. It will have siege combat. The PVP polotics will be more like Lineage 2 though. no realms, you can talk to the clan you are at war with. This makes for some hardcore flaming on the forums. It is a totaly different kind of PVP as it's more competative and your image is on the line.
