iPod easter egg in Starcraft II

BuzWeaverBuzWeaver Member UncommonPosts: 978

AJ noticed something funny at BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment's big gaming convention out in Anaheim, CA the other week-- hidden inside Starcraft II, Blizzard's upcoming RTS game, is this little nod to the iPod. Hidden on a little billboard in the game's futuristic setting is an ad for the iPistol: "advanced targeting... get into the groove."

Of course, it's one of many, many Apple parodies, but this one's extra special, because not only will Blizzard's game be huge when it finally releases (and all Blizzard fans like myself know that'll be a few months after "when it's ready"), but the same disc will install both on Windows and our beautiful OS X. At a time when other companies are getting props for joining forces with Apple, it should probably be noted that Blizzard's been with us all along-- from Diablo to World of Warcraft, Blizzard's games have always been Mac friendly. So while there will be many easter eggs in Starcraft II, I'll wager, we like this one the most.

meh, if I want to play SC, I'll just pop in the original game (see: same as 2nd) and save myself 50 bucks.  No new race, just a couple new units, some old blizzard graphics, nothing really exciting there.  Just IMO.

    I agree. . .

Blizzard has gotten too comfortable. They are afraid to take any risks that may hurt their bottom line. As far as I am concerned Hellgate: London is Diablo 3, Starcraft died with the original game, and because of WoW there probably won't be another Warcraft RTS game. The only shining light I see for Blizzard is if they bring back the Lost Vikings, which is doubtful.

Blizzard died the minute they canned Ghost.

There are parodies and references all over WoW as well. You have Shauly Pore, Area 52, Boomstick, etc...

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Blizzard aren't aiming to reinvent the genre as they have done several times. They are going with tried and true basic game design, and then spice it up with tweaks, lots of new units and features which will make it the perfect game for competitive rts gaming.

This time they are REALLY catering for the competitive gamers and the e-sports community.

Not surprised, Blizzard makes their games specifically for mindless sheep, and we all know mindless sheep love iPods

I like Dawn of War better too. . .

I can't wait for DoW2. Relic is a fantastic RTS company.

Spoken like someone who never played Ghost...I have it on good authority from someone who actually played the game that it was not a fun game at all, and that Blizzard was smart to can it...it spent years in development and when it arrived at E3 prior to its cancelation, it played very poorly.

As for Starcraft 2...people are lifting the game up to impossible expectations...if they included the Xel'Naga as a playable race then people would simply say "oh this is Starcraft but with an extra race, big deal"

People, for whatever reason, seem to forget that Starcraft 2 is, first and foremost, a sequel to the origional Starcraft...what do sequels do?  Say it with me people...they expand and improve upon what the origional game did well!  Why does Starcraft 2 have to be some earth shattering game in order to fit your idea of what it should be?  Because it's Starcraft?  I advise you to check your over inflated expectations at the door, because Blizzard's programmers are only human..there is only so much that you can do to improve on perfection.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Im sure its the only thing worth looking for in StarCraft 2. Not like youve never seen any of the other shit before.

Indeed, the same thing with that Warcraft: Lord of the Clans or whatever it was called.

I'm not looking for Starcraft to reinvent anything. The original Starcraft wasn't earth-shattering, it simply gathered all the best ideas at the time and polished them. I expect the same from this game and if I get it, I'll be happy.
