I had EQ2 on my old Coputer. My old system had just 512 MB RAM 3GHz and ATI RADEON 9200. It had bad graphicsand was laggy. And on the german server I played on, there was no activity in the low levels......the activity started about lvl40. So I got back to WoW. What I hated about WoW was 1. the boredom 2. the classes 3. the crafting 4. finally the graphics. Now I've got a new Computer (2GB RAM, 2x2.4 GHz, Geforce 8800GTX) and I think I should give EQ2 another try. What do you think, is it a game for people who left WoW because of boredom? Or should I again play Vanguard with it's diplomacy system which sounds kinda interesting. (I heard in Vanguard you are getting levels slower than in EQ2, is that true?). And if you think I should try it tell me a good n00b server (English or German).

The last MMO I played too was WoW. I was wondering which to play: EQ2 or Vanguard, and I was told to go with EQ2. I was told Vanguard needs a lot of work, and that I should just keep an eye on it over the next few months. I'm currently lvl 14 on EQ2, and I'm having fun so far. I'm actually enjoying doing quests for once.
Your new system should play EQ2 pretty damn fine too btw.
Looking for something new.
I definitely left WoW because of boredom. Jumped around between about a dozen games. Even started playing my old Guild Wars characters a bit. Eventually I just couldn't find anything that would keep my attention for more than a few weeks and I decided to go back to EQ2. I played for a very short time at release. I am having tons of fun with this game. The classes are great and offer a wide variety of skills and playstyles to choose from. Crafting is like a second game in itself and offers a great escape from questing. The graphics are great and there is tons and tons and tons of content to explore. As far as servers go, that would depend on your play time. Log in during your peak play time and just choose one of the more populated servers. There has been a large influx of players lately that are new to the game and I have seen many lower to mid level guilds forming so grouping should not be that much of a problem.
you still won't find much activity at the lower levels. Some twinked out alts will be about it. Game is losing customers steadily it seems these days. They should really do some server merges to help out newbies.
I miss DAoC
My game time is usually Mo-Fr starting in the afternoon or evenening and Saturday and Sunday whenever I want.
I haven't noticed that. I rolled up a ghey Fey toon just to see the flying animations, and the server list (during peak time) was full all the way down the board except for maybe the last 4 servers, one of which was PvP.
Granted that most players are in the upper 60's or 70 by now, but going 'round the world collecting those stupid statues for the SoD, I've been noticing quite a few low/middle range players in dungeons.

Of course you haven't notice because it's not happening. I just started playing and Qeynos is packed... Guildmates wanted a PVP and Light so we went to VOX. /who in qeynos VOX during the evening... 30+ easy.

I recently created a bad fairy on the Role Play server and the starting area around Neriak has been packed. (The quest progression in Dark Light has been a lot of fun, by the way)
I do have a level 70 on Permafrost and I have noticed some of the lower level areas are not nearly as active as the Role Play server.

I have been all the same shoes and boats you all have. I played EQ2 at launch and found it horrid, quit in a month and played WoW. WoW is WAY too easy and boring, there is no variety and the community is full of young guns that I cannot tolerate. I quit WoW again and played EQ2 as the PVP servers were released. All I could say then was WOW lol. The PVP servers made EQ2 get more popular and more subscribers. I then again quit EQ2 for Vanguard as many did, expecting a whole new game and a whole new genre. Vanguard wasn't all that bad but when I hit 50 in the first month and there was no end game content (plus the plague of bug after bug) I quit. Vanguard, to me and many others out there, is an unfinished game that is basically being revamped by SOE now. It WILL be a good game, but right now it isn't a good game. The diplomacy system is a joke as the real rewards are not in game yet. Sigil had horrid customer support and were unable to deliver. SOE probably will, but they haven't yet. I stuck with Vanguard until the end of June when I found myself doing nothing with the game. The beta testing for raiding was a joke and on the pvp server there were tons of bugs and exploits that simply made the game not fun, just a huge waste of time. I currently started up EQ2 just last week and I can say I LOVE the game again. It is fun, not too simple but not too complicated, and there is definitely content and PVP to go around. I will say I have always been an Everquest fan, yes, but I also will admit I was extremely pissed at EQ2's initial launch. Compared to Vanguard's leveling...When I first played VG it took a good 15-20 days played time to get to 50. Now they have made it so MUCH easier to level that you can get to 50 in about 4-10 days depending on your grind personality. EQ2 I got a 49 swash now that I have spent about 4 days to get...it should take me about 10-15 days to get to 70.
If you want my honest opinion, I would say play EQ2 again. If you look around there are many articles and posts about how people have came back to the game and just will not stop playing. As for Vanguard, it will get to EQ2's status now; people will come back and play. The question is, however, when that time will come. It definitely does not look like it will be soon. Try EQ2 and get ready for the new expansion as I hear it will be a blast.
I too am in the same boat, didnt like EQ2 a long time ago, got hooked on WoW and now after 3 years i can admit im tired of it! ( and all the little kids)
Whats a good server to roll on EQ2 ? for a newbie.
Antonia Bayle is the most populated non pvp server, and the most populated overall. Lots of players.
Nagafen is the 2nd most popular server and most popular PVP server. Definitely lots of players at all level ranges.
The other thing is, as I am new, I am constantly hearing people shouting in the 10-19 or 20-29 channels looking for groups or looking for more for this zone or that. So I really can't agree that there is no one around because I see them constantly enough. Not to mention the game has a tool (which makes me really wonder if you even bother playing it) called mentoring. A higher level player can group with you and mentor you which drops their level to yours so you can get your xp and group with others. At times you will see higher levels shouting out to mentor someone so they can earn Achievement Points (AA's or whatnot) from doing this. It's a really good tool to take advantage especially if you join a good guild. I came from WoW like yourself and this game did it for me after I t
same boat aswell.. but i ony play on pvp servers now, got burned out on pve. but the pvp in eq2 is great imo, if you just make some resarch about it first, and use some time getting prepeard for what to come!
