    Bounty Bay is Voyage Century.

You can register and check information for Bounty Bay Online on the official website: http://www.bountybayonline.com it is a really good game and much better than POTBS will ever be. Voyage Century is nearly the same but BBO is much cheaper in the end (regardless the eyewash that VCO wll be free to play - its not if you really want to play!) and is operated by a professional team!

    cheers

And what exactly IS the difference?

Same game from what I've seen so far.

    Gamer by nature,
    poet by heart.

Its just easy to tell that these games are the same as they are based on the same game game from china! But its that the way it has been realized by the different companies made the games totaly different. If you would have played both versions i am sure you would agree:-)

The main difference lies in the business model, no doubt! VCO is item based and operated under questionable service - BBO is subscription based and operated by a profesional and in my eyes skilled team.

Other differences lie in the quest-system and many many other gamesetup differences which makes the games look alike but it is a totaly different gameplay experience.

Its not just that all the annoying-play-for-free-kiddies that populate VCO and makes it a disaster it´s just BBO having a much better and much more realistic view to the 15th century theme. For example - i cannot imagine that a booster water cannon (like in VCO) fits into this era. I play BBO for a few weeks now after quitting VCO and i really enjoy it!

If you are searching for a really good and realistic "Pirates-Online-Game" - i would propose to pick Bounty Bay Online!

    cheers

I recently started playing VCO and from the screen shots the games are identical.  You mention a different business model and quest system.  Interesting.....is bounty bay a F2P or a P2P?  I'm personally thinking there had better be some healthy changes to the game to justify P2P when i can currently play it for free.  Don't however get me wrong here, I am enjoying VCO very much.  I have yet to invest a cent and can see me playing it for some time.

I am currently DLing BBO and will return with my 2 cents.

How the hell is BBO better then POTBS lol

POTBS is made from scratch and from the sounds of it the combat is more realistic than VCO or BBO is.

BBO is VCO without item mall and montly fee and still a grind fest like all Asian MMOs.

BBO is running, isn´t it? How can a Game which has not started be better? I cannot follow the players talking about a game not yet released as "better" than a running one. Do you like Wallpapers and Screenshots more than playing a game? Nice gameplay:-)

OK, played BBO for a while and it is virtually identical to VCO.  The biggest difference I saw was that BBO put more effort in the english translation than VCO.  That being said, why would someone pay (1) for a working version of the game (Box sale....$30-$50) and (2) a monthly fee ($10.00-$15.00) to play a game that they can otherwise play for free?

Bombyx, perhaps you can enlighten me on this.  I have recently started playing VCO, tried to find differences and they just don't seem to be there.  I havn't spent a cent and am enjoying VCO very much.  Why would the addition of "cost" make me enjoy it more?  I do realize I've only been playing a short period of time and could be missing something here.  Specifically though....what changes have been made to the game besides the better translations?  Is BBO adding content to the game in the future?  Please share....because the gameplay experience I experienced was the same.

    Differences between BBO and VCO!

A player who started with the German BBO version wanted to know what the differences between VCO and BBO were. Before he decided it was worth the money he was going to have to pay to play BBO, he decided to play a bit of VCO and find out for himself if it was really worth it.

In VCO there is no monthly fee, instead you have the option to buy point cards. With these points you can then buy different items and services in the game, which you get automatically with a BBO account.

A few examples of what he learned he would have to pay in points in order to get the same things he would get with BBO for free are as follows.

    Bank safe deposit box:

In BBO you already start with a safe deposit box which you have to pay 100 points (3.89€) to open in VCO. In BBO you can expand a safe-deposit box with 6 extra slots once per month per account (per account, not per character) In VCO each expansion of a safe-deposit box costs 500 points (19.44€). In BBO it would take 30 months until you have all 180 slots free. The cost of all 30 months for his account would be 274.80€. In order to open all these slots alone would be 567.53€, or for the most inexpensive way possible 534.47€. So he realized in order to get all the safe-deposit box slots alone he would have to pay more than the 30 months for BBO.

Downgrading Skills to level 31 and forgetting stunt skills:

In BBO you can forget all your stunt skills from a skill in order to reapply them to a different stunt skill in that skill once per month per account for free, in VCO this option costs 300 points (11.66€). In BBO you can downgrade 1 skill to level 31 per account per month for free, this would cost 500 points (19.44€) in VCO.

    Pet bait:

In BBO you can get pet bait by completing special quests which have been developed by Yusho, in VCO you will normally pay 200 points (7.77€)

    Resource area passes:

In BBO you can get these resource passes by completing special quests developed by Yusho which can be completed every 48 hours, in VCO each ticket costs 60 points (2.33€). In order to get the same amount of tickets as is possible with BBO you would have to pay 900 points (34.98€)

    Siege ships and statues:

In BBO, siege ships cost 10,000,000 to 15,000,000 silver coins, in VCO each one costs 600 points (23.32€). Statues cost 500,000 to 3,000,000 depending on the type. In VCO each statue costs 120 points (4.66€)

    19.44€ (500 Points) < Expanding bank safe-deposit box

    15.55€ (400 Points) < Downgrading 1 Skill (sometimes 300, sometimes 500)

7.77€ (200 Points) < 1 Pet bait – If you buy only 1 per month

9.32€ (240 Points) < 4 Resource area passes – If you buy only 1 per week

    Total: 52.08€ (1340 Points)/month

    Quote:

“52.08€ per month for roughly the same game content as you get with BBO. Therefore 9.16 per month is actually really cheap, even if you don’t use everything all the time. Now if you decide to use the city siege items with your guild, this will really make it worth your money, the siege ship alone costs more than an entire month subscription to BBO (23.32€)!”

Isn't BBO only licensed for Europe? Will we still be aloud to play BBO if we live in the US? Will we be able to pay for it from the US, if yes by what method of payment? That's what I want to know.

  • bombyxbombyx Member Posts: 8

As they are offering VCO to european customers - i am sure you can play BBO from the US with no problem.  Anyway - just enter a european country as your home country in the registration form and you are save:-)

    best wishes

Wow that's the dodgiest argument I've heard in a long time.

Well I for one hated the all the bugs VCO had and never got fixed, plus there was practically no interaction with the community at all... It felt like VCO never listened or cared about our concerns... and I did try to stick with it a while before giving up.

So the difference seems that BBO took VCOs item mall and made quests out of them and assigned ingame money to the rest and flat out took things that made no sense like the water cannon and giant hammer.   Doesnt seem like a whole lot of difference because even though you did that in VCO I can buy item mall things from other people with in game money, but of course at a steeper price.

Unless something totally different changes, like the PvP (which was horrible IMO in VCO) or the xp grind gets adjusted I doubt I will give it a try....

The difference between VCO and BBO is that IGG understands the market and its future, I can't say the same for Bounty Bay Online's hosting company. Bounty Bay has no place in a monthly fee industry imo.
