Should I try playing Eve?

Beastmaster7Beastmaster7 Member Posts: 8

Hello all, I have done the free trial of Eve previously and really enjoyed it. It seems like a really in depth game, and I really like the atmosphere. I've heard everywhere that the most fun is to join a corp, and if you don't, the game becomes sort of a drag.

My problem is that due to real life stuff, I can't really ever be on at any set times, and I would be on very sporadically. So is it worth my while to even play Eve knowing that I probably can't join a corp due to time issues? Can you have fun/accomplish anything in this game without joining a corrp? I am thinking about going for a trader/fighter type career, and I don't know if that would even be viable without a corp.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful. Thank you everyone!

Absoutley you should try it. Its a great game and if you already have tried the beta and like the very different game play mechanic to your normal MMO, then you should keep playing.

The time based skill system means the infrequent player can still lvl and improve even whilst not online - perfect.

The best think you could do for your problem is try to join a corp that is a mix of US and EU players.  That way there would pretty much always be people playing because of the time zone difference.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

Well there are 30,000 players on concurrently at the same time in one server. Thats like 3k+ corps to choose from. I'm SURE you can find a corp no sweat. Play times aren't really a deciding factor when joining a corp. High end corps that have a lot of 0.0 territory they may have req's like having an x amount of SP's on your character. The great thing about EVE is you can train not in the game, so if you cant play often, you can at least log in for 2 minutes and train a new skill. When you do play if your going to be a miner / trader, that doesn't necessarily warrant your on at a particular time unless you go on a deep space mine mission with the corp that is at a set time. You can do a lot w/o a corp, but there are so many to choose from your only limiting yourself by saying "well they probably wont want me." Give it a shot, EVE can always use good players to fight the good fight.

If you are having trouble sleeping then this is the cure for insomnia.

hehe well if you are traveling in space that is.   It is the only game that I feel asleep playing.

It's definitely worth a try. This game is not for everyone by any means, so make sure you do the trial before purchasing it. It's definitely an MMO that  makes the player proud to be playing it. I love the story, the depth, the people and the company who makes it. Give the game a try and be open-minded.

being sporadic isn't that big of a deal in this game as its not like you need to be on for x amount of hours 2-3  times a week to run raids or anything like that. Most corps don't mind players with sporadic play times as long as when you4r on you help out with the corp if its needed.

I've tried almost everything there is to do (PvE-wise) in EVE, and I'll tell you, unless you find a corp that fits your sporadic playtimes, AND you like PvP, don't bother with EVE. You'll never find anything more than ways to make ISK in the PvE parts of EVE. Simply because that is exactly what the are designed to do. Let you make money, so that you can buy ships and modules, and go PvP.

You say you'd like to focus on fighting/trading. If you mean missions, make sure you realize that they're HIGHLY repetitive, and hold no interesting stories whatsoever. Like I said before, they are simply there to make ISK. Loyalty points are just a different version of money, except only usable for specific items. The standings gains only help you gain access to higher level agents, and pay lower refining tax.

If by fighting you mean PvP, then EVE will probably be the best you'll find.

On the trading side of things, finding items to buy for cheap, and where to sell them for high is a little mini-game all on it's own. Planning your route and finding a return run is lots of fun (to me at least). But ultimately, it's the same as missions. You're making ISK.

Now you say, what do I spend that ISK on?

Well, if you're PvPing, the answer is simple. But if you're not PvPing, all you can spend it on progressively better and better ships and modules that you'll probably never lose. But what do you do with those ships? Fly around and look pretty? Or go do missions with them so that you can get an even better ship/module. And do the same thing all over again.

As you can see, EVE really falls flat if you take the PvP aspects out of the picture. So if you're a person like me, who prefers their PvP in FPS/RTS format, EVE really doesn't hold a lot to keep you interested.

Ultimately though, you'll have to make up your own mind. Here's to hoping you find what you're looking for, whether it be in EVE or some other game.
