Memory vs Hard Drive (need to make a choice)

DookzDookz Member UncommonPosts: 562

I plan on getting a new system and I have to choose one configuration over the other. So I need help getting the most out of performance.

Option 1: 4k memory (800mhz), Raid 0  7200RPM Hard drive  **I am aware I will only get 3-3.5k of memory.

Option 2: 3k memory (667mhz), Raid 0 10k RPM Hard drive

I will use this system mainly to play graphic-intensive online multiplayer games. FPS, strategy, and instanced/persistent mmorpgs. and dx10 games coming out later this year and next year.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

Though the options you posted makes no sense really, I'd say go with option 1.

Interestingly,  I would go for option 2.  I love fast hard drives.  And currently between 3 and 4 Gb of ram is only noticable by people doing really intensive calculation sort of stuff (not games) and down the road, you can aways bump it up.

    My policies are:

    RAM: Quantity over quality,

    HARDRIVE: Quality over quantity.

Forget raid 0 it really doesnt provide significant desktop performance gains.  You can read about that here, and here.

Also, unless you have a 64 bit OS... your OS cannot use more than about 3GB of ram.  You can read about that here.
