Good choice, man. I've read a nice review of which part is for what kind of player. They can be played standalone (the newest - Eye of the North requires having at least one of the previous three). From what i can remember, the best part for the casual player would be the basic Guild Wars: Prophecies. It has the longest storyline and PvE section, the smallest learning curve and the most balanced character development.

Another good choice would be Nightfall, which is also very PvE and storyline-oriented. Choose it over Prophecies only if you're into Meozopotamic/Persian settings.

The one expansion that should be avoided is Factions, because it's designed for people with experience in Guild Wars and it's highly PvP oriented.

I'd personally recommend Prophecies, followed by Nightfall when you get the money, then Factions/Eye of the North. Prophecies has a long storyline that will keep you busy for quite some time, and also rewards you with skills etc. whilst levelling up, meaning that by the time you choose another expansion you will have a nice selection of skills at hand. The continent is also very big and is made up of many different stunning landscapes that gave me the "Guild Wars feel" when I first started playing. Lastly, Prophecies is bound to give you some good experience for PvP as it required significantly more of my time than Factions/Nightfall did to complete.
