Newbie, question about game costs

Hi all. I was interested in starting to play MMORPG's, but first had a question about game costs. I see some games are 15/month, some are 10, and so on. Are there any popular games that let you pay for the amount of time you play? IE, you pay for 20 hours, and when that's up you have to pay again. This would be a far better route for me because there is no way i'll play a game for hours every day. I also can't justify $120 a year (at 10 per month) to play a video game.

EDIT:

I just downloaded Ragnarok and began playing that. I see that they let you play for hourly usage. Is that game a good one to start on?

    I understand not justifying 1200$ a year.. however your math seems incorrect...

    Yeah sorry about that. But to be fair it is 1:30 in the morning.

    10x12=120

    14.99x12=179.88

    Besides your flawed math, I'd recommend some Asian imports that use the Free to Play + Itemshop method of payments.

    I mean, if you like iRO, then you'll be able to stand playing them.

    Hey, he's already playing iRO, it's only a slight hop in that direction.

    I fell asleep five hours ago... XD I start school in two days as well so it's horrible... but yeah... outside of Asia you most likely won't find any games that play by that method... I always though that method was a gip though.. cuz I can easily log six hours of gameplay even on a schoolday... and weekends o.O I could use it all in one day i it was 20 hours or less..  but yeah if you think about it you don't have to worry about how many hours you've played this week if you just buy a whole month for 15$ it's really more worth it than it seems.

    On that note:

    Movie with popcorn and soda = $15, for maybe two hours of entertainment.

    MMORPG subscription = $15, for approximately 720 hours of entertainment. Though if you can use that much time on a game.. you're a better nerd than I am.

    From where I sit, if I have a MMOG that I'm really involved in I'm not buying any other games. When I'm not playing a MMOG I'm ususually buying around 2-4 titles a month. Even if it's only 2 titles, and I get them at a bargain price of $40 each, that's already $65 less per month than a good MMOG.

    MMO gaming is by far the best value in entertainment that exists today.

    That still leaves you dozens of high quality MMO games to play.

    I never suggested anyone actually buy something from their itemshops.

    ha, i didn't say i was liking it. I downloaded the game at about 1am last night and played it for half an hour. Actually many of the aspects of it seemed annoying.

    I understand everyones point about the 15/month being worth it. And it very well may be. I was just curious if there were other ways of payment. From the responses i already got, i see that there are not. So that's fine with me. I think what i should do is find a game that is free for the first couple weeks or so, and see if i like it. If i do i think i'd be willing to pay a monthly rate for it.

    The reason i said that I wouldn't spend an ungodly amount playing is this. I'm 25 years old, I'm getting married next month,  I have a full time job, and I have a lot of hobbies. Now if you asked me 4 years ago if it would be worth it, i'd say hell yea. All i did in school during my free time was play FPS's on line.

    So what i'd like to do now is find a new game to try out. I'd just rather not do WoW because i''ve heard that since it's been around so long to doesn't cater well to newbs. I was looking at the Lord of the Rings game. Then i remembered that i hated the movies and i don't think i could spend me time playing that. Now that i found this site i think i'll look around and see what games are new and cater to my gaming taste.

    Thanks all

    Well some peeps will say this isnt a real mmo but its still good fun to play and has no monthly payments involved and that is Guild Wars were you just pay a one off payment for each chapter there is now 3 chapters and one add-on and you dont have to buy them all as each chapter is a stand alone in its self.So no woriny if your getting you money/play time worth each month

    Hope this helps you
