I miss the Trade Forums

I miss a lot of things from the pre-cu days. Heck even CU as okay but the NGE just destroyed every ounce of joy from the game.

I was the 3rd player to unlock my jedi on Eclipse. But my pride and joy was my crafter toon. His name was Icebolt and he made quite a name for himself on the server selling armor at first but later droids.

I found myself really enjoying the use of the Trade forum. It was such a fantastic way of offering contracts for current shifts of resources. It was a great way to buy that rare item for your home decoration collection.

It was like playing the stock market. Sometimes I overpaid and got burned (like the time I paid 10 million credits per mind buff crystal only to later see them broken). Othertimes I sold something like giant dune kimo scales for 5 million each only to later see the drop rate increased making the price drop dramatically.

It really made the SWG world almost feel real. Having real business deals, real bid wars on hot items, selling your crafted goods, etc just brought the game alive to me.

While at work, I always had the Trade forum page minimized so I could check things. Sometimes to bump my post or to check to see if a hot new CA went on sale. It was exciting to see someone bidding on your items.

Once the NGE hit I think the trade forum stayed around for a bit. But it was such a sad sight. Before the NGE, it was very difficult to keep one's post on page 1 where it would be seen. Now nothing was posted as the economy literally died overnight.

Ive played a ton of mmorpgs, but SWG was the only one where I actively used their forums. The Trade forum was icing on the cake for me and I miss it

Ya, they were almost fun at times. Half the part of crafting an awesome item was selling it on the forums. It gave you a real idea how prices were set on things and why the prices of items were high or low. I think if more people would have used them you wouldnt have gottten all the cries about the greedy crafters. It was really the loot whores and merchants who ran the prices up IMO.

    See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.

It was because of the trade forums that I found out about the NGE. I was playing on Mustafar and having a great time when I decided to check one of my auctions. I saw that every bid had been cancelled. I realized at that point something was wrong, I just didn't realize how bad. My poor jedi is still somewhere on Mustafar.

I don't claim to be right, I'm just posting.

Well that mind buff crystal was converted to a action buff crystal and is now worth 50 million plus in todays game. I use the trade forums quite a bit and there is a robust business in mining contracts still. Alot of that is because it is no longer possible to lot swap fleets of harvestors like the days of old (only the person who places the harvestor can interact with the harvestor).

    Shhh....

Social aspects of the game that depended on Decay and Commerce are not allowed now.

Nobody in game now understsnds the (MMO) part.   However, if you use shiney metal or give a free painting for no reason some people may understand that.

I swear, so many people do not understand the circle that was once in place is now gone.   From Decay, to commerce...it's so screwed that it can never be recovered.

    My jedi was named Thunderbolt

I like to think I played him honorably.

    • I never showed off around a SP or cantina
    • I stayed hidden for the most part
    • I on occasion risked making the BH terminal if it helped save another player from death
    • Although I was never defeated by a BH, I did tip my bounty to those that fought cleverly and honorably as a show of respect
    • I realized my place according to the timeline and therefore never got involved in the GCW

I heard the rumor of the impending NGE and saw that post about jedi becoming  a starter profession. In addition, I saw that listing on Amazon for the new box set of SWG with new missions and such. I figured the rumor was true.

Two days before the expansion hit, I offered up my account on E-Bay. It really pained me to do so but I knew others who had made a nice sum of money doing this and the Holidays were approaching. My son was itching to get the new XBOX 360 system so I accepted a buyout offer of $500 (same price as the system with hard drive).

I ran into a few old guildies once when I came back to take a peek on a free trial. My new name was similiar enough as to get recognized by them (i had told my guild my plan before I sold the account). Whoever had bought my account was seen pvping a lot then eventually changed servers. I have no idea where Thunderbolt is now. Part me wishes I hadnt sold him

    ouch

Im guessing inflation is really bad now since decay is gone. I recall the most expensive items like say a piece of RIS armor might fetch 12 million tops.

How could any newb possibly buy anything starting fresh ? Even if I wanted to go back with a new account Id never be able to get a crafter up and running with the economy

My jedi has 12 of those mind buff crystals. I forget the recharge timer but I recall getting enough crystals so I was basically permanently buffed. It didnt really cost me anything. I had looted 8 giant dune kimo scales the week before and sold them close to what I paid the for the mind buff crystals.

Out of curiousity, what would a flawless krayt pearl sell for ? I had like 20-25 on my jedi account. I recall the drop for them was busted and when I came back on a free trial the people I chatted with didnt even know such an item existed.

How much would a Nightsister arm bicep piece sell for ? I had two, one regular type and one of the ultra-rare ones with stats (it was something like +5 melee defense, something like that).

How much are the village items selling for ? I unlocked long before the village came about but still did the quests for the loot to decorate my museum with. The Bacta tank was my favorite. The Sunrider was okay but I preferred Bane's heart.

The best item I had was that hero ring, the one with self-rez on it. I dont think it was tradable though.
