Well I have played Guild Wars and its not even an MMORPG, decent action game though. Dark and Light will be better than the ones you listed from what I have read.
Laying in bed, looking up at the stars, a single thought passed through my head. Where the fuck is my roof?
I'm most looking forward to The Matrix Online. From what I have read I think it has the potential to be a great game, though my biggest fear is that it will be the next SWG.
Out of the options given, I would say Guild Wars, mainly from my own play experience from E3 and also its lack of monthly cost ( $0/month ). I am sure it will be a popular alternative to EQ2 and WoW for those who cannot afford it.
My Predictions: All if, by some freakish happening WoW and EQ2 don't do well...
Guild Wars will at first be way more successful than any other game on that list... no monthly fee is just too attractive. As more expansions come out, fewer and fewer will be willing to buy them... but it'll still have a strong user-base.
Middle Earth is riding hype, but has some wierd ideas... such as time-based advancement, where you can gain stats while offline, but other than that, it just has nice visuals. Will do decently imo, but not dominating at all. A mere blip on the radar screen.
Dragon Empires is catering to big guild style gamers... with lots of cities and warfare. Competes with Dark and Light and Darkfall for those big guild types however... One of these will dominate, the other two will be at best, mediocre.
Vanguard... after reading the faq i'm a bit nauseous. Section 1.4.3 is particularly sickening. " If I had to compare it to another game, take original EQ, Kunark, and Velious -- that sort of challenge." He goes on to discuss how gameplay is similar EQ, but with "challenge" this time. Unless the third party innovations he hinted at are really really great.... this game seems to be a EQ clone. And unfortunately, most of the EQ fans will be playing EQ2... so i think Vanguard is doomed :
Tabula Rasa... imo the most innovation out of any other major mmorpg in development. Will start off small i think; many simply arn't giving it a chance or looking at the major changes in gameplay the devs are attempting. Small community at first, composed of Ultima Fans/ Random people, that'll grow... but never really dominate.

I agree I think the matrix may be a really good game, alot better than people are writting it off as. As for Fantasy, D&L definitely, and Vanguard, in SciFi down the road is Citizen Zero which may be interesting, there's the wispered of marvel super hero game and that other super hero game (I forget what that ones called) in development, maybe 1 of them will be what I hoped city of heros would be

Hmmm, Vanguard - made by the original EQ dev team. EQ2, made by the people that brought you the Ykesha expansion. I think, of the two, the old school EQ fans would be going to vanguard. It's got the graphics, and it will have the gameplay that EQ2 will fall short on.
Guildwars will do well with the b.net crowd because there's no monthly fee. It will be pretty big with the casual 2 hours, 3 nights a week crowd.
The rest? I'll be damn surprised if any of them make it to beta, let alone release. Given the recent spate of cancelled games, you're going to see alot more publishers pulling out, and cutting their losses, or shoving games out the door totally incomplete, hoping to make back some of their money on box sales, and the inevitable fanbois that will subscribe to a loading screen, and then post near illiterate rants about how Jesus himself will bless them for their loyalty, and if you just wait a bit longer everything will be fixded, just like teh Shadowbane. DE has been in development forever and a day, and while they have plenty of interviews with the devs, and some clan leader people, that does not a game make. DnL looks all purty, but will anyone really care? Same goes with Darkfall, assuming it ever makes it out, and they don't totally alienate their fanbase in the process.

how right you are my friend most people say there gonna "love" those games its gonna be a shake when reality hits them and they find out WoW was another cop off and im not sure about eq but middle earth online! you go tolkien!

I dont want to be rude or sound like and EQ2 or a WoW Fanboi but... Just because people are fighting over the 2 games all the time, doesnt mean they wont be good... and, OLD SCHOOL?!!? are you telling me Everquest and Warcarft arent OLD SCHOOL?!? EQ is older than school and Warcraft is just OLD! I mean Everquest is the MMORPG that practacly started it all... And i can understand wanting to start a different poll not dedicated to the two so i respect that and if i pissed anyone off just now...
After one month of playing WoW I will get my human spatula and seperate my a$$ from my computer seat.
It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's, we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous music!

Older school than EQ and Warcraft: MUD's, Ultima Online, Meridian 59, etc etc.
The MMORPG genre did not begin with Everquest. IMO, Everquest was just the beginning of a popular but downward trend in mmorpgs.
i wasnt meaning to bash any games. i just wanted to start discussion about these games, and maybe get some info. i cant bash eq2 or any game in this list becasue i never got a chance to play them yet. i have tried WoW though and i think that alot of people are gonna be swg'd by it.
plus how can i spend my time right now besides forum:/ i canceled my CoH account after getting 2 chars to lvl 40, then i hear they raise the max lvl next day lol..and i cant bring myself to play stuff like knight online and conquer for more than a day.
But it will break everything and send all those MMORPGs to retirements.
They are far behind, they just are starting but...
Those guys are BRILLIANTS! Backed by ATARI(or am I confused there?) with the official D&D name and they will conquer the market!
Vanguard could surprise me, but they hold to false truths and false beliefs about some major weakness that they will prolly just crash in those mistakes like a fly crash on a window!

What did you mean by "swg'd by it?"
I'd still rather play one of the classic MUD's over EQ any day. The "boost" EQ gave drew more people in, but it was still a terrible role model imo.
