Open Beta

Didn't I read somewhere that the WAR open beta would be beginning in summer 07? It's nearly September... Or was that just closed beta? Hmmmmmmmmmm

Ok let me sasy this one last  time like many other have on these forums...WAR= NO OPEN BETA.

There will be no open beta for WAR and like many have said 357.000 beta apps..so why would they need an open beta when they can draw from the massive pool of beta apps.

    Let me say this.

An Open Beta stipulates the rules that govern the information concerning the Beta. That is to say an Open Beta is one void of a NDA (Non-Disclosure Act) meaning that all information is open to the public. On another note World of Warcraft had an Open beta despite having 500,000 people sign up for the stress test in 24 hours and while it has been stated that an Open Beta will probably not be in the vein of one whereby everyone with an internet connection can download and play the client, there has been NO OFFICIAL word on them not holding one.

Finally Open Beta is a great marketing tool. EA-Mythic havent retracted the statement that there will be an open beta so until otherwise announced, stop making claims based on assumptions.

Yes this is a great point that you are making, an open beta is for one a HUGE marketing tool and you would be foolish not to use such a cheap way to market you product. I program in my spare time and know that when you have lots of people that can test your product it just helps to be able to find problems within your software. Everyone has different setups, different levels of drivers and so on so more people that test it only helps to find those nasty little bugs that run around. I did check and I cannot find where they said they would not be doing open beta sooo... I think Arath is right about the retraction.

I just thought Id add a link to Beta Defined, Wot? What is Wot? & a QA. Although these are a little old and out of date they all mention that an Open Beta phase will still be coming. We dont know when but it would be folly to not have an Open beta phase in some shape or form, especially when its apparent that EA-Mythic want one.

I think it's important to note what is actually said about the Final Beta Phase.

"But I wanted to be really clear with you guys - we are not planning the kind of open beta where everyone with internet access can download the game and hop in. That's nutty. Right now, we are tentatively considering having everyone who pre-orders the game invited to this phase of beta."

So while people call it Open Beta.  It's going to be like other games' Open Beta where anyone can get in.

Like i sad there will be no open beta for WAR ..pre-order might get you a few days start but there will be no open client for eveyone to download like WOW had.

So my assumptions as you put it are right....just because blizzard had an open beta it does not mean everyone else should.

I've sold beta keys before.  One guy paid me $150 for a matrix onine beta key lol.  Another one paid $300 for EQ2.  I pity the fools....

As for the open beta, the game may be hyped, but there's lots of people who won't buy it until they see a preview.  I think a true open beta would do nothing but help the game.  But eh, that's just my opinion.

  • randomxtrandomxt Member Posts: 3

Wow, I would sell my beta login/pass for $200 without blinking an eye.

  • iduumsiduums Member Posts: 205

I would not attempt to sell your beta key.  Mythic reps are all over the place taking action against this.

But I will, because what the heck, its a 50-60 investment to play a game....if it sucks, no big deal....

Besides will give me a nice headstart over the rest of the folks waiting for a free trial....

You assumptions are inccorect until proven otherwise by EA-Mythic.

WarCry Network:: Finally, can you let us in a bit on your testing plans as they stand today and where you're shooting to get this on the shelves?

Josh Drescher: Sure. We're already in closed beta and have been for a couple of months now. There will be a few other phases of testing prior to us turning the general public loose on the game, but I can say with absolute confidence that we're going into Open Beta

Sanya goes on to state that it wont be an Open Beta in the vein of a free for all (for those with access to internet) beta. That being said, and let me try and put this in words you understand, there will be an open beta, I never stated it would be like World of Warcrafts, the form it takes (by invitation only, contest winners, etc) is irrelevant as the important defining factor of an Open Beta is no NDA not how people can access this stage of the testing phase. I cannot think of an MMO which hasnt had a form of open beta...

Mythic has said they will have an Open Beta, but it will not be an if you have an internet connection you can get in. Whatmy guess is Mythic will end taking applications before the Open Beta hits and then anyone with an acceptable application will be sent a beta key. Open Betas are not about finding and fixing anything. They are a way to stress the servers to find out how they will function on release day. Mythic will still be fixing bugs and problems during the open beta, but usually anything at that point gets put on a back burner unless it is a game breaking issue.

All you have stated their is the same thing i have been saying..ie the client wont be available for just anyone to download and test. You have not stated anything that we don't already know.

When people mention open beta their think along the lines of  WOW open beta where anyone and their grandma could download the client and test.As far as any other mmorpg not having an open beta their are a few that have not.

As i have stated they will not be allowing anyone to download and test this game.No NDA does not mean open beta even though some people define it like that but it does not mean open beta.

Now your just being stuborn. If somebody calls it an open beta, it is an open beta. I just showed you that people from EA-Mythic themselves are calling it an Open Beta. My point is there will be an Open Beta. What shape/form it takes is irrelevant to the argument. ALL MMO's have had an Open Beta, they havent all been the same though, yet they all share the fact that information is open to the public so in my opinion while Open Beta defined by who can play is variable from company to company, the fact that information concerning the game is free flowing is definite making it a more convenient defining factor in stating what an MMO Open Beta constitutes.

Its posted right there that they will have an Open Beta. Again who can join is irrelevant to the argument. I stated they are having an Open Beta and have posted proof of EA-Mythic using those words to describe their final testing phase. If you had wanted to say, yes but it will still be to a limited number of the community then you would have been correct. Stating that they wont be having an Open Beta is incorrect since they say they will be and whatever definition you use is irrelevant.

Thank you. Pointless to argue further so I leave it at that.
