I was an avid World of Warcraft player up until about a month prior to the release of TBC. I raided, I had a complete T2 set and I was a blood guard. Times were good.
Then I had exams
So I stopped, and concentrated on getting good grades - which I have gotten thankfully.
Now, it's summer, and i'm looking to play games again.
But now, i'm faced with the question: Is it worth starting up again, considering:
1) I'm sooo far behind others now
2) ALL my purple gear is now SHITE... won't the same happen to TBC players when the NEXT xpansion comes out??? waste of time if you ask me...
3) Other games, such as AoC and WAR are coming out - which i'm planning to play - so is it worth levelling/gearing my char if i'm just going to change games? I might not change, if they turn out to be rubbish, but still...
4) I'm a 60 priest as it stands... how are they these days? How are BE pallies fairing? Is it fun to level? Are they in demand for end game raids?
Any thought? Thanks in advance...

TBC is a brilliant expansion and if you enjoyed WoW, you will enjoy the expansion. The moment you step through the Dark Portal, the game takes a whole new lease of life.
As for all your hard work raiding 'going to waste', the alternative is having a lot of content in TBC go to waste because all the rewards are too weak for your T2 geared character. This is a glass-half-emply way of thinking, your gear doesn't suddenly vanish once you step through the portal, it will take a long time to comfortably replace an entire T2 set, and being so powerful will make replacing it that little bit easier than it did for other people.
Besides, gear is and always will be secondary to the experience of attaining that gear, making friends, and having fun.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I started playing WoW a few months before the release of TBC. I hit level 56 the day TBC was released, so pretty good timing.
I didn't LOVE 1-60. It was good enough for me to carry on going but I wasn't having the best time ever...
TBC, on the other hand, was a LOT of fun. Even before hitting level 70 and getting onto raids and PvP etc it was good. Give it a go, you may like it...
MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor
2)no it ain't shite. it is much much better than what others start outlands with and it also means you would not be switching it off immediatly, it is gonna take sometime, depending what tier it is. Tier 3 it has been reported can last well in the 66-68 range for example.
Beside, you are getting BETTER gear, what the heck you whine about?
3) they are coming out... next year! in 6+ months. you sure you wanna do nothing for those months?
4) priests will be priests and remain the black sheep of Blizzard. They are still needed for main healers of course, but there has been no super changes to them. some new abilities like the shadow fiend are welcome to mana dry priests and the new expansion items does a good job of giving more vitality to all the casters professions, always starved for good gear.

First of all I have to say that all the post replying to you are positive yet in the poll most of the people said no.. Just goes to show you how many tried troll/haters there are out there..
As for is it worth it to give it another shot, hell yes!
I left about a year and a half ago and recently came back last week... After playing most of these tired MMO's to my left I can honestly say that WOW is head and shoulders above the rest.. Also they seemed to have listened to thier community (you hear that other MMO's) alot of the things people were bitching about a year and a half ago have been corrected (auto matic grouping in BG's, lack of world pvp with a meaning, etc)..I could go on and on about the changes but I have go log in lol
Anyways if you think about joining a server look up some of the RPPVP servers, so far the community on them is 100 times better then the leet kiddies you find on the regular servers..

LOL!!! BC is a horriable Expack. but its still better then anything out their at the moment. So yeah pick it up and start playing again. BC did not deliver AT ALL. so just play dont get your hopes up. with the new xpack coming out next year and with all the stuff they are promising and we all hope they WILL deliever. Its going to be great and make up for the crap of an expack that BC was.
You are 659 in the Queue...
Based on your comments in the OP I'd say yes, for you. It's essentially the same thing; new zones, quests and 5mans to level up in, then hugely raid-centric content at the cost of PvP balance, bug fixes and casual content. If you liked that prior to the expansion, I see no reason you wouldn't like it now.
1-60 was the worst time I had in WoW....but 60-70 was really great fun. Lots of interesting instances and such and colorful environments. I'd start it up again if you aren't planning to raid because of the new expansion coming out, but I think it's worth it to level and bring up some trade skills, ect.
My experience of Wow was always that levelling up is great fun, especially if you take the time to wander around and smell the roses. I found 60-70 to be very entertaining... some zones were a delight, some less so, but overall lots of neat little curiosities to keep you interested. (That said, for me it will never beat that first feeling of, on a pvp server, leaving your safe starting zones and facing the big wide world).
Then you hit the level cap, get some reasonable gear, and find is nothing much left to do - except some pvp skirmishes and the like - that is, unless you can play for many hours at a go, with a large raiding guild.
So I would say, sure, take up TBC - it has plenty of fun stuff, not least flying. It will last you a month or so, maybe two (no idea how many hours a day you play, so that's a guess), which in my book is a perfectly decent length of time for a game.
But make no mistake, after that initial fun period, TBC is a total grindfest... with a zillion new factions to increase at tiny by agonisingly tiny bit.
Now if only you could fly in the level 1-60 areas... sigh.
There's pluses and minues to playing again... me, I'm gonna play EVE for now.

I finaly get it.
WoW is not the best, it's best at what it does.
I would say u going back to wow all depends... I used to love WoW prior to TBC. IMO they made to much content. When I first started wow, which was in july of
05, I rolled a shaman, leveled to 60 and got into a decent guild. I raided, ZG, MC, and BWL. I pvp'd a ton. I was rank 12 before I quit. I got loved the community. People were always online... There was a raid every friday night etc... When I came back when TBC came out I hated it. I do not play any more, but I play on a friends account now and again just to see how the game is progressing. I hate it now because the game has too much content. There seems to be stages that everyone goes through. You hit 70, get some pvp gear, do karazhan, get higher pvp gear (Merc.. Glads) then do higher bosses in Karazhan and then other instances like Gruuls lair (prior to karazhan actually), and then Black temple, which few guilds are into. I hate it because, one, if ur not in a good guild u only have the option to pvp. Secondly, it takes SO LONG. Its like 7-10 months to get full merc. Gear, if you play a lot. i was in a group that was ranked 38th... and even a buddy of mine who played more then i did isnt all purps. I don't want an mmo that takes months of my life like TBC... I miss the good old days. I might re-roll if they ever make a classic wow server. I wish they would have spread their expansion out. I think they should of either made ways to increase gold or items. Or at the very least spread out the friggin updates and expansions for 6months to a year.
One last thing.. I wish they would have implemented a way to make old instances not obsolete? (Forgive my spelling lawl ) I read someones idea in the forums of a heroic mode or something.. Like buff rag for the 70's and make drops like tier 4 or something... Ugh seriously... Their wasting their own time and ours. People spend countless hours learning how to down a boss, the developers spend countless hours making the graphics and coding the boss... Just seems like a waste. And no one, cept mb some leetest guild is actually going to get a raid together to help gear up a lvl 60 to ease his leveling with decent gear ya know... Neway... Ill be quiet now.. I've been using WoW mangos for fun lately... I love wow pvp but i hate the play time. Mangos lets me pvp with my old wow homies for fun without the time and effort to be throw away by another expansion RIP WoW... I'll never forget the friday nights u gave me.... (Oh one more thing... TBC bosses should do something to add character notoriety.. like Killing Onxyia, she used to drop her head in Org.. and people would be all like, Wow that guild is leet etc..., should do more of that with TBC bosses)
/rant off. Just my opinion, please dont flame, I think wow is schweet, I just think its made for the hardcore gamer.. Or the casual gamer who is content with having crappy gear.
Thanks for the input guys...
Judging from the comments (and not the poll...), I think it's probably worth me starting up again.
p.s. I was a hardcore player... as in, I raided in one of the core guilds and played, on average, at least 12 hours a day.
Well now, based on this comment, I'd recommend you not play WOW or any other MMO's ever again. No game is worth playing 12 hours for a single day (I did it once, I was physically ill when I finally stood up) and if you did it regularly, you might consider finding a way to limit your time in them.

Its really easy to catch up. If you have problems with quests ask a 70 to help out. I wouldnt even bother with Gnomeregan, Deadmines, and some of the other lower level dungeons. By the time you get rolling and leveling up you can bypass those and continue doing regular quests and catch up pretty fast.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Thought the same thing as you but left a few months after TBC. Lets see how many new instances and how many new BGs? One new BG and it was WSG + AB and call it a "new" BG not even worth saying something about world pvp that died with BG and the honor system. The game just got even worse. I will sum up WoW for anyone thinking of playing or coming back...
level 1-70, start collecting your first set of gear find out it sucks and you cant pvp with it. Start running instances collecting gear, then move onto raids collecting even more gear. Then when bored of collecting pve LOOTS!EPIXS! Its time to PVP and guess what you can go into instance BG where there is a point right? It wouldnt just be a game of capture the flag or king of the hill I would hope...
Oh no its to collect guess what more gear and if the BG instance isnt enough for you then try your hand at the arena to collect arena gear! Oh man the fun is endless! There is nothing to that game what so ever all you do is collect gear. Dont even try and say different, afk AV lol, AFK all the BGs, exploit the arena to rank up above 1500 each week easy and run instances all for what EPIXS and what will you do when you have them? That right get ready for the next expansion so you can collect even more gear. Its like the game for the brainless
Carebear game for loot whore kids end of story. Check out Eve online, L2 or wait for another game to come about IMO.

not at all
Oh really? inlighten me on what the game is based around then. What do you spend 98% of your time doing in WoW? What is the long term goal of WoW? What are 99.5% of people doing each night when they play WoW?

What you describe is the game mechanics, but if you can't think of anything else to do in a persistant world, well, it's not the games fault.

Yes I described the point of WoW the object of what is to be done in WoW. Listen Im not trying to be mean or anything just putting the truth out there for people who think about WoW or coming back. Its not a pvp game its not a pve game. There is nothing that takes skill in that game, all the instance in game can be figured out in one or two run and there is no point to pvp. The game is over-rated and dieing slow as more people realize that there is 100% nothing to do in that game that isnt based around collecting gear. Is that fun? Spending hours on end in pve instances that a child could run to collect a new piece of armor? 40 kids on vent crying that they dont have enough DKP? BGs that have people who dont even give a shit because there is not point to it other than to collect honor which can be traded in for gear so they AFK it the whole night?
Just look at other games on the market. Lineage 2 pvp you have clan wars, PKs, xp lose to your enemys, pvp for pve raid bosses and zones, pvp for server domination and to lock heros, pvp for castle sieges. Eve online open pvp a lot of the same things as L2 but Eve offers a better pve system which you have a much better player economy, corp and large scale clan wars. Old SWG server domination and the building of large cities and base wars, clan wars and so on. WarHammer Online going to have server domination, race wars, and tiers of RvR conflict that has some kind of point in the long run of the game other than to collect gear. You get the point I could do this with atleast 3 more games where there is some kind of point to the game other than one big pixel loots game. Im sorry if you are to close minded and carebear to try other games that take some kinda thought/skill to play

Hahahaha, you almost got to the end witohut revealing your age, but OK, I don't mind. In time you will learn to see things for what they are and not to cry about what they aren't.
Nobody's hiding the fact that WoW is not a PVP game (duh), but that doesen't mean you can't PVP and have fun with it. There are people who actualy put gaming on second, or maybe even third place on their list of most important things to do. So cool it mister preacher man, you're preaching to the quire.
having fun?
PWNED!
Go away trolls, go play the game you think is so much better then WOW then instead of spending time here bashing this game.. Oh wait maybe thats because there are no games better then WOW atm.
Anyways OP good to see you made the right decision.

Ahh where to start. I love to spite such ignorance.
"There is nothing that takes skill in that game, all the instance in game can be figured out in one or two run and there is no point to pvp."
So all bosses are figured out in one or two runs? I wonder why the last boss isn't killed within a week or month of the games release then. No point in PvP? How about fun? Showing that you're better than someone by kicking their ass? If you think it takes no skill that it's all just luck then go get on a 70 character and enter the arena, I'd like to see you win at all.
The game is over-rated and dieing slow as more people realize that there is 100% nothing to do in that game that isnt based around collecting gear.
Dieing slow huh? I guess that's why the subscribers are growing, funny how that works.
Spending hours on end in pve instances that a child could run to collect a new piece of armor?
This is interesting, if instances are so easy that a child could run why would you spend hours in it? I mean if it's so easy it should take like and hour maybe, these instances aren't long.
