Is PS still a good mmo to play?

snoopz20snoopz20 Member Posts: 2
I have been searching for a new mmo for a while now. Im tired of playing freeserver games and thought planetside sounded good. I keep hearing of shrinking pops, but is there still enough to keep me entertained whenever i jump in. Still any epic battles? Is it worth it at all? Im sick of point and click, then spam some key. sort of combat. I need some fps, or skill. Anyone help out, cheers.

PlanetSide is still a great game to play. Though it struggles to get pop locks now but empires come close to it. I highly suggest finding a outfit that is active so it will make the game more fun for you. Otherwise you won't enjoy nearly as much unless you enjoy soloing.

This game is tons of fun.  I haven't found anything like it on the market ever.  The size of these battles are way bigger than any non-pay-to-play fps's.  I have been a subscriber for 4 years now so have many I know.  This game is just plain fun.

I'm waiting for Tabula Rasa to come out. It's mostly PvE, but there will be PvP play, so it's both worlds. Check it out here http://www.playtr.com/index.html

If you're waiting for Tabula Rasa as a replacement for PS, don't -- TR is not a shooter, it just uses some flashy shooter-esque action to cover up the RPG combat. Which is fine by me, I'm looking forward to TR, but an awful lot of people seem to think it's going to be a shooter. It isn't.

I haven't gotten to try PS yet, they canceled the trial before I had the chance. At any point since launch have the devs described PS' combat mechanics and networking? Is PS a full-blown FPS in its combat or is it FPS graphics and UI but "normal" or turn-based combat underneath with the gunfire, etc. making it seem realtime on your screen?

It is an FPS just like your bf2 ana all the other tittles you can think of. + It is an MMO therefore it is the one and only MMOFPS out - all other games may lay claim to being the same but they are full of BS.

So yer its as FPS as Half life / BF2 / Counterstrike  / whatever. But on a massive scale – (well during peak times)

Its the ONLY, REAL, FPS MMO. Its the real deal. PS is unique, but its is a FPS on a massive scale.  Check out this video.

I've seen the videos, what I'm asking for is actual, technical reading material on how the game combat works internally. It's very easy to fool the players with graphics and UI and make them think it's all real-time when in fact it isn't. There's a reason true FPS' have player limits -- way too much info being transmitted, also making them very lag-dependent. I'm just interested in what PS is truly doing under the hood, not what it feels or looks like it's doing.

It is a REAL FPS. Point at target, Shoot, hit target, they die, real time. Planeside was before its time. I play on a LAN all the time. There is some delay, not more than other FPS... but that doesn’t matter as long as the client is still in time. One thing that does make allot of this possible is Client Side Hit detection.

Isn't there still a free trial, so you can try it out yourself?
  • TalynTalyn Member UncommonPosts: 587

No, they canceled the free trial. They left the trial button and download up for a long time though -- I installed then a CSR told me the trial had been canceled a long time ago after I submitted a ticket for not being able to create a trial account.

Was banned for mentioning something to do with scientology so i had to start this thread on alt. But thanks for input, i just bought the game and am looking forward to months of unrelenting slaughter and mayhem. Heard they were doing a server merge too, so the pop will not be an issue at all it seems. Thanks again.

    Currently playing: Planetside, Americas Army.

    Praying to Zeus for: Darkfall.

Planetside is an awesome game.  The developers are now actually communicating with the community and adding new content.  Pops aren't as high as what they were a year ago...but it's still kickin.  I highly reccomend it.  There is current talk of a server merge as well which will help the population situations.

Currently Playing: Planetside, Guild Wars, EVE Online
    No Other MMO's Played

Yeah, planetside is still good to play but SOE really needs to make a lot of more improvements. Now that SOE switched Devs i can't really say much about the game. ive been playing Planetside SInce beta.  If SOE still wants to stay around for much longer they are going to have to make a bunch of improvements just to bring all of the elite/original players back. ive played on Markov for so long now that its just getting boring since there aren't nemore pop locks and stuff.  Well the way things are going with planetside and SOE right now i can tell that Planetside won't be around for a fifth annivarsary. New BFR's and things that they have put in have really made people mad so  unless SOE doesn't really pull sumtin off within the next few months i don't think PS will actualy be a good game nemore. I am still subscribed buts its only cause my friends want me to but if it was my choice i would have quit Planetside last year when the BFR's came out. But  i am looking forward to Gods & Heroes: ROme Rising and Warhammer

Are the weapons still weak and innaccurate?  I remember firing the sniper rifle and watching bullet veer off.   Not the cone deal, Im talking about one shot at a time with any of the weapons and they would not shoot staight.  Did they fix that?

This post is intentionally written as to not make any sense what so ever. Thank You Very Much.

YES, i still have great fun playing the game. there is simply no other mmofps really out there yet...

    huxley looks busted :(

while i do enjoy the occasional CS, it cant be compared to planetside as it is unique

although SOE did many things i disapprove of (bfr etc) the game is still awesome if you create your own fights away from the zerg

Well, to be fair... WWIIOnline battles are even bigger. They aren't battles, they are "campaigns".

True but the fact one has to travel a lot before any action comes and the realism of the game still makes a lot of people not stick with WWII that easy compared to planetside.
