no facts? The only one with no facts here is those who proclaim its vaporware. There is more than enough to show that their is a game especially since the fact that a hacker actually played the game. Or is that not enough proof for you?
Where is the proof of this...please provide links to videos, movies, sound files, screenshots... Anything that will validate this wild claim that hackers are playing this game.
Look at the other topics that a hacker has played this game and got sent to jail.
Originally posted by Taram No, Marfin bank gave them a loan. Investing means you basically give them money in the hopes of a return. A LOAN on the other hand means if they screw up and go bankrupt you can seize assets to recoup some/all of your money. HUGE difference. The fact that they got a loan means that they have some money... for now. The fact that they had to get a loan rather than an investor means that no investors felt that they had a promising enough product to sink any more assets into them. And, like I said, I've been following the game for eons now, since they originally announced it in fact. I truely hope it lives up to their promises but I am honestly not all that convinced they are going to pull it off. If they do, great. But sitting here preaching pie-in-the-sky fantasy is crazy. They haven't got a playable beta yet. Until they do all you are doing is guessing that they might pull it off based on no facts whatsoever. I never said it was 'vaporware' I said I don't have a whole lot of confidence anymore. It's been 5 years, no matter how you slice it, and they have yet to even get it into alpha. This does not bode well for the game. If they do get it into alpha and actually HAVE a beta? I'll be the first one to jump into it. But until they actually get a playable beta rolling I'm going to continue to take anything they say with a huge grain of salt and a pinch of skepticism. What's funny is we heard the same arguements about Dark & Light... and Irth... and any number of other 'the next UO' games (to include Roma Victor). So don't preach to me about how they got a loan, etc. Sure they did. But the fact is this: They have been announcing this game ad nauseum for years. The only surprising thing is that you guys still have so much faith in them. YES I would absolutely LOVE them to pull it off. And YES I still keep my eyes on the game. But No I'm not running around telling people how GREAT this game is going to be because the fact is simple: There is no game yet. We have no idea how good, bad or otherwise it will be until we actually get in and PLAY it.
Marfin bank helped sell securites to the public market for aventurine. The security is a convertible bond which is a type of investment. Where the person who buys it can either get the principal+interest or exchange it for shares.
no facts? The only one with no facts here is those who proclaim its vaporware. There is more than enough to show that their is a game especially since the fact that a hacker actually played the game. Or is that not enough proof for you?
If you want to talk about true development considering in 2003 they scraped everything to start over. Its in internal beta now. Well teh fact that someone else besides the devs have played the game isnt enough for you eh?
Yes but those games failed because of not enough funds or not enough time.
2 times have they officially announced beta. The first one is understandable but not on the second one.
Now I NEVER said this game was going to be great but it has a lot of potential. I agree we wont find out untill we play it for ourselves.
Cool your jets, son. I never said it was vaporware. I said I doubted their ability to get it to a release state. I have read the facts and I have been following the game for a very long time. I have yet to see any evidence that it's going to be released anytime soon. They have it in internal ALPHA not beta. If it's internal only it's alpha testing, not beta testing. Alpha testing is NOT a playable state, that's why it's done internal only.
I understand you want the game to succeed and do well but you also need to be watching it with open eyes or you'll wind up just as disillusioned as the followers of Roma Victor, Irth, Dark & Light, DDO and any number of other recent flops have been.
Will they pull it off? I don't know. But right now I don't have very high hopes that they'll pull off even close to what they've promised. I hope they do, you have NO IDEA how badly I hope they do. Right now EVE is the only MMORPG I consider worth paying a monthly fee for. (I suffer the LOTRO fee because I'm a tolkien addict and the game isn't all that bad, besides my wife and daughter both play it on my account so I can't very well not subscribe, I'd get murdered in my sleep). I would LOVE to see another SKILL based (rather than level based) game make it to market and do WELL.
My real beef isn't with people who follow the game and want it to do well. My beef is with the idiots that run around hollering that "Darkfall will be the answer to all our prayers blah blah blah".... it might... it might not. Until they actually have a beta, with real players in it, there is no way I am buying anything that dev blogs spit out. It's not that I don't trust them it's just that I know, as a programmer, that what a programmer considers 'good' isn't always the same as what the players do
"A ship-of-war is the best ambassador." - Oliver Cromwell
In my experience, many so-called haters who make a point of stating over and over again that something is vaporware are really potential fans who got disappointed along the way (probably with things that have to do with the development cycle). Why would someone who had *no initial interest in the game* bother at all?
Take me for instance... I'm not much intrigued in Darkfall to begin with. If it went to release in a week and turned out to be very polished, given that the gameplay experience is anything like what they promised, I would not play it. I played UO back in the 90s, and I did not like it much so I can only guess this one will not be my cup of tea even if it's done very successfully. So whether it turns vaporware or not, why would I care?
You would then have reason to ask why I'm posting this. Well, MMORPG genre in general interests me and I like having conversations on it Reading these and other forums, I can clearly see that a lot of the stuff this game is promising talks to a solid fraction of the MMORPG player base. A game like this is needed, so if Darkfall will not be it, something else will - in time.
The website from where its from is in hacker topic on the board. This is just to help validate that their was a hacker.
Once again to dispel this rumor. Tasos said their webserver got hacked. This has nothing to do with the internal build of the game.
It is just a prime example how Tasos uses lack of knowledge by the fanboys to spin excuses. Tasos knows this hack attempt did not delay the game or beta at all. Web servers get hacked all the time... Most issues can be resolved within 24 hours with a competent admin. The developers and thus the beta would not have been impacted... Just another excuse.

No if you looked at the "hacker found" topic you would see the guy getting a development verison of the game. No one even said it delayed the game or beta so wtf are you talking about. The hacker was to show that some one else besides the devs and family have played the game.

Please quote where Tasos said a version of the game client was stolen. Not on the link you gave. That was clearly about an attempt on the web server... I quote: "Aside from all things to do with Darkfall, we've had to deal with the added time sink of that hacking attempt on our webserver."
Noticed how he said they had to deal with an added time sink... what exactly do you think that implies?
In case you need to know what a time sink is... click here.
Again I have never said this game is vaporware. Even IF someone external has played the game which apparently they are under an extreme NDA... It is the quality of the game I question. Devs misleading people only confirms they lack integrity. All signs point to a very troubled game...

So they had to fix the hole in their security but i dont remember saying anything about the time sink. Of course it backed up development because they had to fix the security first but i would hope you would know that.

The only one trying to mislead anyone is you.
This is getting sad man... That is a different link then you provided previously in this thread. I could only go on what Tasos wrote from your link.
Following this new link and doing a little babel fishing you are still incorrect. No where in the official article (not the OP but the actual article) did it way he played the game. He hacked into their web server which doubles as their mail server as well. He gained access to their mail boxes one of which had usernames and passwords to access a private server to download the game client.
He was a data thief... he hit up several companies. He did gain access to the game client which I am sure was $$ in his eyes but nowhere does it say he played the game. Why would he... he could care less... it is the code that meant the most to him. He was not a fan and if he was good enough to infiltrate that many companies before being caught... I doubt he plays MMOs.
You did not say anything about a time sink... Tasos did in the original link you posted in this thread. I wonder what the military people thought about this rookie mistake. I mean how stupid do you have to be to mail critical information about a product under development in unsecure e-mail. That article just makes them look more like a joke then before. They all need to take network security 101 at a community college. Maybe the 20 million was a student loan so they could get a clue.
BTW thanks for pointing out a spelling error I made. The line you pulled should read like this: "I agree... but I think the game is more than vaporware... they do have some videos out... That is why I compared it to shadowbane."
notice how I spelled than wrong. Why would I compare it to shadowbane (a very real and released game) if I thought DF was vaporware. You are gonna have to do better then that.

All of you people that are sippin on the vaporware haterade will be the first ones frantically clicking on the log in button when beta starts and the servers crash for the first time(It will happen). Then you'll be on here crying because you can't play the game. Get some real mmorpg experience before you start dogging on games that you HAVEN'T even played yet. Just because the game that you were waiting for failed, don't take it out on Darkfall crybabies. *hands you a tissue* - You'll need it.
Isnt that quite logical? That us who are so upset about this game never going beta, even less being released, being the ones that vent our frustration by calling this game vaporware?
Doesnt that just show that we truly like the game but we are upset by it not going anywhere? If we didnt like it then surely we wouldnt care?

Ok, then you've told us what your opinion and doubts about the game's release. You've spoken, we've listened, enough. I'm getting sick of trolls on forums jumping in and saying "It's vaporware!" then vanishing. If you truly like this game and want it to be relased and simply have your doubts, keep them to yourselves so you don't hurt the playerbase's hopes.
Whether the game is vaporware or not is irrelevant because there is no way to discern what is really going on with Aventurine. Therefore we can only eagerly await Aventurine's next press release about the game and hope that the long wait for a beta will soon come to a close.
