my tip too you is go back to the store you got it from and see if the disc works on their comps. or try on one of you friends. cause this is starting to look more like the disc's problem than you comp's. however this is the first time i have heard of this situation, i don't think that you should blame it on Blizz just cause your disc didn't work. Blizz makes millions of those discs and it is very hard for every single one of those discs to not have an error.  at least one of them has to have stuffed up and maybe you just happened to come across one of those discs.

As I said, this is from the battle chest.  So both ROS and FT are both acting this way, and they are two seperate disks.

Crestgard there are a few things I need to point out.

First, Warcraft 3 is played by a LOT of people, many of whom have Geforce FX cards and play just fine. I have played WW3 on not one but TWO computers with FX cards without problem.

Second, the FX 5200 is by far the worst video card nvidia has released in a long time. You should seriously consider replacing it.

Third, dont blame blizzard/warcraft 3 if the game doesnt run. It is NOT possible to create a game that will run on EVERY system configuration. Your PC isnt a console. There are literarily thousands, if not millions of combinations of parts, drivers, operating systems and software packages that mixed in weird combinations can create weird results. WW3 has system specs that are incredibly low. For video card you can run the game on an original nvidia TNT even!

Fourth, since both ROS and TS dont work, you can safely assume that you have a wider incompatibility problem than just one game. The fact that FPS games like call of duty and UT2k4 work doesnt mean a whole lot. The games use different combinations of drivers and resouces tha may work just fine. Troubleshooting steps you may want to take:
    1) Install the game on another PC and run it to verify that the CDs you have arent corrupted (it is possible, ive seen it happen). Your problem could easily be cd copy protection not being compatible with your cd-rom drive aswell.
    2) Reinstall the system from scratch with Windows XP. Run windows update and dl all the fixes. Install latest video card drivers from nvidias website. Install latest sound card drivers from your cards manufacturers website. Then try the game.
3). Replace the FX 5200. Seriously, the card sucks. Even if you wouldnt be having problems, id still recommend you replace the card.

And finally Fifth, World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3 have nothing to do with each other technology wise. Different engines, different code, different game. Dont put them in the same boat.

You sure you "Override" the refresh settings for certain resolutions under the VIDEOCARD settings and not just the monitor itself? I had my monitor set on 60 but the game runs on a higher refresh by default so I had to override the hz under the video card settings....

Right click on the desktop with your mouse and select "Properties." This will bring up your Display Properties. Click on Settings tab -> Advanced button and then click on the tab with the name of the graphics card you are using. Click on the Resolution/refresh rate in the menu bar on the left. Then make sure to change the screen refresh rate you run games at to 60 NOT default(W3 will run at a higher refresh then what you have your monitor at)... IE I changed all the settings from 1024x768 and below resolutions to 60. Once I did that the game ran fine.

All my friends say its great so I decided I'd try it out, and I buy th ebattle chest of both games.  Well after installing it, I now have a new deep hatred for Blizzard.  I have a brand new computer that is less than a month old, and because Blizzard is a bunch of morons and didn't make the game compatable with Gforce Fx models, my game doesn't feed in video.
I tried all the things posted on Blizzard's site, but none of them worked.  ANd the video test they say to use leads to a dead link, which is more than frustrating.  And now I can't even post on their god damn forums because you need an account ame, password and cd-key?!  Thats abusrd.  I can't even get in the game to set up an account and I can't even post on the forums to get help to run the game?  Talk about a Catch-22.
I am ready to throw in the towel and give up on Blizzard.  It's easy ot see how they ruined the Ghost project already.  I don't see what other choice I have but to wait "several days" for the dev's to get back to my email.  My next step is to return the game and burn my diablo2 disks as well.
If this is any indication of Blizzards skill, customer service, or general occurances, they're doomed.

How the H*ll can you have a deep hatred for Blizzard just becuase your Gforce Fx model isn't compatible. Thats stupid.

It's like saying that I have a deep hatred for machanical pencils becuase I have the wrong kind of led.

    somthin like that

You guys have every right to defend your games, but seriously, I have tried everything listed here, and none of it works.  If you say the 5200 sucks, I guess thats an opinion, I might upgrade to something newer when EQ2 is closer to release, but any of the games I've tried on my computer run just fine (including the 30 day free trial of EQ1).

As I said, I tried it on my laptop also, and it didn't work there either.  You can say tons of people use it, because I know they do, but it also seems more people have problems with WC3 than any other game.  Just run some searchs with problems with games on different ones, WC3 has so many more than any other one.

This was not meant as a bash, and there are a few other things people posted that I should smack down, but it doesn't matter anymore.  I'll be returning WC3 to the store before the weeks end.  And I probably won't even risk trying WoW anymore.  Would suck if Blizzard continued to ignore new video cards and just didn't have the game work...

So basically you refuse to buy WoW because WC3 didn't work on my computer...

That's probably the lamest excuse for refusing to buy a game I've ever heard. Don't you think WoW is gonna run on a different graphics setting seeing how you're comparing a MMORPG to an RTS? Please.

If you didn't like WoW... that's all you had to say but to blame on an RTS game (a great game by the way in my opinion anyways) for not working on your computer is insane.

Odd, words perfectly for me on my 5600. Perhaps your omitting some data, like you bought a packard bell or gateway with their own bastardized version of that chipset? Dunno dude, but warcraft works perfect fine with the FX chipset. If it didnt I beleive they would have mass chaos at their doorstep by now considering its around half the graphics market.

So you tried their knowledgebase and then refused to start an account on their forums to get support there and now they suck? It really sounds to me like you wanted it all to fail. You could have emailed their tech support team directly I am sure and gotten proper support had you chose too.

Obviously it will be hacekd sooner or later (as everything is) but that may mean a solid game wioutout hacks from 7-10 years before someone hacks it. This is no different from any other MMORPG since all of them will (or already have) been hacked or cracked or *insert random stuff here*
That is my 2 cents on the subject

Why are we even comparing completely client sided game security with what will be client to server based security which is what WoW will be. It makes no sense. Even the LOWLIEST of modern MMORPG's have solid security against cheating, its just build into the model, all the important data is stored and monitored server sided, you CANT do the things you did in diablo 1 & 2. You would have to do them on the server farm's character database.

Well dude look what youre saying. If it doesnt work on your PC AND it doesnt work on your Laptop, doesnt that give you a HINT? Either a) there is something very screwed up with both your PC and Laptop OR b) there is something wrong with your game CDs.

    My 2 cents -

Check your resolution on the game, if it is too low or too high it might not be able to handle the game correctly. I had that problem with WC3 when my reso was set too high and it blanked my screen. I changed it over to 800x600 and 1280x1024 also worked. That could also be a possibility. Now, as for not playing WoW over this complication, that is your choice but you will be missing out. And for EQ2 being better? Well we all know that will be a joke. Sony ruined EQ1 after Verant left, and the graphics are going to be so rediculus anyone will lag no matter what card they are running and how much ram they have in the thing. Reconsider your decision, try it out, and see. But that is all up to you. Anyhow, check the resolution settings and see how that goes. I highly doubt you wouldn't be able to run a game with better requirements than are needed... Unless you have windows 95 or something ;) Enjoy~
