I play WoW alot. But I have been looking at GW for a while now and one of the first things that caught my eye was the graphics and sweet character models. I was wondering how good is this game in comparison to WoW. I'm in a PVP realm on WoW, so thatz a major factor. How good can a non-monthly subscription MMORPG be?

Its kinda like comparing Red apples and green apples. They are similar but equal. They both are online and are RPG but GW is all instanced. Skills can only be changed in towns and u can only carry 8 at a time. It is more story oriented also as WoW has a really non existant story during the game. You can only go up to 20 in GW also. There is only a human race too, no dwarfs or orcs or stuff like that. It can also be comepared to Diablo being as its kinda like just an online RPG, not an MMO thats just me though because it has a story like Diablo. Overall a great game. Plus no monthly feess!
GW is designed for a cooperative play. Take note cooperative, because mainly it is for PvP.
WoW on the other hand is an mmorpg and designed to be as such.
So the answer is No. You cannot completely compare GW and WoW unless you only want the PvP side of each game.
And yes, GW's PvP owns WoW's PvP in every aspect. So if you want to experience a real PvP you better play GW.

Comparing them to is not even like comparing apples to apples...it's like comparing apples and watermelon. Both are fruits (both GW and WoW are online games) and both can be good when you want them....other than that no real similarities. 4 million purchasers (as it hit yesterday) should give you a pretty good idea of how good a non-monthly subscription MMORPG can be.
If you want to pwn little kiddies with your 1337 gear and max level then it is probably best to stay with WoW, if you actually want competitive PvP where skill selection and reliance on your team are important. Take a look at GW.
Here's to hoping you are not just another wanna-be troll.

So a lot of PvP, yes, a lot of FFA PvP, no.

Ive been play WoW for a while... and.... i quit and play GW instead and... in my opinion.... their completly different games....
WoW is more..... all around game... has more features.... auction... mailling items...mailling mail (lol =S)... etc. and if you go outside... your free... you can walk alone.... certain spots have less mobs.... etc...
GW is more like "party only" game... so if you have a party and go out of the village (go through a portal), you dont see anyone else but mobs, npcs, and your party.... and there missions.... quests just like WoW..... but if your outside alone... it is impossible to complete a quest/ mission alone...
Overall:
GW is like a RPG strategy game..... so its more strategy then power (Stratgy > Power) you have 8 limit of skills that you can put in your "hotkeys"
WoW is more Power then strategy (Power > Strategy)
When i mean by power is all depending to the level (Ex.: a lvl 40 in WoW is impossible to beat a lvl 70 (max lvll in WoW) or 80 [since the new WoW expansion is coming out] (unless the lvl 40 is a GM (GameMaster)) but if your a player its most likely impossible...
and When i mean strategy it's more... strategy..... its not depending on the lvl (ex.: a lvl 1 in GW is able to kill a lvl 20 (max lvl in GW) because is all about skill activation timing IMO (in my opinion)

Well I played both GW and WoW for a great period of time. I have to say I really like GW PvE better then WoW. Some reason or other PvE in WoW was a drag for me, I didnt like the quest system, to repetitive, and the instance where you pull 1 mob at a time then you have like a gang rape session doesnt appeal to me. Where in Guild Wars you can just do Mission and it fells like your just playing a level which i like better.
As far as PvP, I like WoW PvP better. If I can describe GW PvP, it would be WoW raiding guild. GW takes a great amount of cummincation and cooperation for my liking. And if your facing a guild with the same skill level as your team, well matches tented to drag. Where in WoW, class has rolles, well at least my class does, I go and hunt people down with my rogue, which is very fun . However there only one map I play and that AV, after playing it like a thousand times, well it get boring.
As far as Depth, for PvE, I think Guild Wars is better. WoW u use like 1-4 buttons while soloing and maybe like 5-8 while in a group, where in guild wars you use 8, which you have a wide selection of skill and you can always mix it up and make it less boring each time you go out. As far as PvP Ill say its tie. In WoW, with my rogue I need to beable to use 20+ skill to be successful in PvP compare to Guild Wars Eight. But I would say GW skills has alot more Depth then WoW. Exceptionally comparing Monk with Priest.
Those are the major difference I can think up of. If you like Team PvP, where you have to be super coordinated with 8 other people, then yeah take a look at Guild Wars. There other PvP aspect in GW, but if you played team areana, ra and ta are pretty much the same but with 4vs4. AB = Alliance Battle is pretty much like AB = Arathi Basin, capturing the flag. I never got in to Hero Battle so I cant really say what that like.
But yeah if you like games like Diable and Buldars Gate, I think youll Enjoy this game aswell. As far as it having non-monthly fees, well you have to pay to get more content. Like Faction, Nightfalls, and Eye of the North. I hope this helps.
I've played both GW and WoW for rediculous amounts of time... And to me these are the pros / cons of each:::
WoW Pros:
-You feel a strong connection with your character (Because it takes a long time to fully develop a character
-You feel part of a consistent world
-Lots of loot, quests and PvP to do once you're finished with 1-70
WoW Cons:
-You can't just hop on and play.. you need a lot of time on your hands
-It can feel like a grind sometimes
-The PvE isn't very involving... Mostly just kill x, deliver y, collect z
GW Pros:
-Very specific character roles (You think each WoW class has a specific role in a team? Try GW! Each class / build has an EXTREMELY specific role to play)
-Easy to just play for 10 minutes then hop back off
-Very strong storyline... More like a single-player game at times (In terms of strength of the plot)
GW Cons:
-Each character doesn't feel personal to you (Didn't to me anyway). It just feels like a character... not an extention of yourself..
-After you're done with the PvE and you've PvP'd a lot... It all starts to feel monotonous.
------------------
I'm sure you know what you like about WoW... but I thought I'd point out what I felt was strong about WoW in comparison to GW
[EDIT] At the end of the day... both are amazing in different ways. Also, GW is free! So play both, dammit! lol
MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor
Imma try it. Thanx everyone for the info.

if you start playing thinking GW is a free WoW you'll be disappointed
if you start playing thinking GW is a free WoW you'll be disappointed
and to add on to the quote..walk into GW with a open mind...dont look to compare, look for the good before the bad. I have enjoyed this game since GW first launched and i still do. Im having alot of fun and i hope that you do too.
Great feedbacks from everyone...and they are correct...it is hard to make a comparision between the two games...
I have played WoW for like 3 years...it is a good game...but i could never understood why it got so huge...it's alot like any other MMORPGs in its time...constant xp grinding...pvp...weapons/armors/skills upgrade...etc...oh well...maybe the game just got lucky....although its just me but i have the sneaking suspision that it got really popular after that dang Leroy video...hehehe
Here's my opinion on GW:
- Since you pay for each of the GW game upfront and there's no monthly fee...you can play GW at a liesurely pace...you are not forced to play the game cause of that $15 bucks or so monthly fee hanging over your head. I have played GW (Prophecies, Factions, NF) then went back to WoW (expansion) then EQ2 (expansion) then back to GW then played Vanguard and now I'm back to GW...but anyway...you get the drift...
- In terms of PvP, previous poster mentioned that its more skill-based and this is correct...look on the internet and there are tons and tons of strategies on PvP class/skills and team building
- Also previously mentioned is that you really dont get attached to your toon (like your 70 troll hunter...etc...) and this is correct. But this can also be a good thing since GW is the only game that I have played so far where I have created and played like 7 different classes/professions...so I have done everything from tanking to healing to dps or combo etc...in the game
- The only thing that I don't like about GW is the limited movement within the game's world itself. You can't jump off cliff or swim...etc...this limitation can be a minor annoyance...but no big deal...graphically...it is a beautiful game. Although hopefully they expand to free movement in GW2.
PS - Another poster listed the MMOs played:
"MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor"
I totally agree with ranking SWG Pre NGE as one of the funest game ever. I was there from the beginning...before the Jedi grind...before NGE...standing infront of Coronet starport dueling others...taming your first Graul Mauler...massive PvP rebel/imperial city and base battles...brings back memories *sigh*...good time...good time...

One thing I'd like to throw out there is that with the GWEN expansion, Guild Wars now offers plenty of opportunities to go dungeon crawling. Personally, that was one of the great weaknesses I felt the game had before but no longer. If you like doing instances, I'd highly recommend picking up the original and expansion, or waiting for the Platinum Edition to come out in a month or so.
