OK Fury fans, another weekend has passed. Lets hear it with your take on the game.
On a side note, I cant wait for this game to run live and high rendered graphics again. I want to get a cool trench coat and look like im out of bladerunner or something.
anyone try out the suggestions for staying alive as a "non melee heavy oriented physical damage dealing" class?
I gave it a shot this weekend, and I can definately say, I will be picking this one up. However, performance was absolutely horrendous, after setting it with the low renderer I got decent frames during Bloodbaths, but that's pretty much it. Now my computer isn't the greatest thing, but I could run Vanguard with pretty much no problems aside from a little frame rate drop in large towns. However, this should be cleared up by release, it's in beta for a reason.
As for the actual game play, I'm really digging how fast this game is, even if it really is just a ramped up run speed and instant cast abilities. All the buffs laying around the arenas really took me back to UT, and I love how the elemental charge system works.
Kind of short, but overall I can see this game developing a fairly large following, I know I'll be continuing on with this game.
the big three i wanted to play this weekend were Fury, ET:QW and CoH/V as there was a free weekend event and I ended up in Guild Wars doing guild stuff and doing some station work... but my guildies that played said they saw a noticeable difference, in a good way
Let's see, they say the game is free to play for anyone, without any "damaging" advantages for those who pay. And yet:
They say their pay model is based on Korean/asian item shop type models, however they want $50 for the game up front. never seen a Korean/asian item mall game charge $50 ( or ANY $) up front, outside of Archlord and we see where that went.
Then, if you don't pay the $10 a month after the first month of "Immortal" status from buying the box, you're "demoted" from Immortal status to Heroe status, which means you get to login IF there are no paying players ahead of you, as there will now be a "queing" system.
Also, paying player gets extra slots.
And the devs are selling their own gold.
And this is all from their official forums.
No thanks. Maybe we'll see this game and Archlord bundled 2for1 in the bargain bins. Even then, wouldn't be worth it.
The hero status isn't really a demotion its just a title change to differentiate between the subscibers and non subscribers.
Auran obviously need a way to fund the 'buy the box and play for free' model (for those who don't want to subscribe) and they have gone about this in the right way IMO.
$50 (or however much the game is gonna cost to purchase) is a one off fee and not a lot if you like the game.
Selling their own gold is a smart move to get 1 step ahead of the gold sellers found in most MMOG's.
And its also another way to generate revenue for their business model meaning more updates for all.
We have yet to hear the full story actually, also stated on the official forums is that more news is coming on Monday.
Once you get over the learning curve, say 30 battles or so, this fast paced game starts to "slow down". Just stick with it a little.. you'll see. In beta it is a huge crash course for the new player to walk into a match with a GM right now, but once the matchmaker gets in there the curve Will be lowered.
I must admit that it DID feel like just another button masher at first, but it slowly became button mashing with a purpose and began to feel like the first real good team balanced PvP game that I have played.
The core game is free (as in no monthly fee). When the gates of battle open, everyone has had the same opportunity to be as powerful as the next guy.
The fee is for quality of life things (it is Fury's "valet parking" if you will). But once you step foot onto the battle field ( Fury's "restaurant") it is all the same....fee or no fee.
I will be paying for the valet parking... not so much for the convenience, but because the restaurant is that good and I will be eating there alot. Yum Yum.
Strange.... I know .
BTW...Great job on the game and listening to the community devs.
This isnt a MMORPG. Its just a game where you have this area of NPCs, that sells goods, train you etc... Then you talk to this guy and you enter an arena. I think ive played this before... Oh right, its called Guild Wars. When i played Guild Wars i thought i had played that before, a game called Diablo... And thats not a MMORPG because it isnt a MMORPG. To qualify being a MMORPG in my book you have to have a persistent world... I doubt there will be much persistance in a NPC area. But then again, i think the term MMORPG is changing alot over the years... This is just a Third Person Shooter, nothing more, nothing less.
That would be why we don't describe it as an MMORPG. Fury is a 'PvPMMO'.
Who cares if it is a MMORPG? The important thing is that it should be fun to play. I haven't played it yet, but looking at the idea, the art and the gameplay descriptions, I am looking forward to trying it out. At least it is something different and I may well pick it up to play casually.
(The only reason that I haven't played is that I don't seem to get the emails (tried multiple times) telling me how to set up an account that their webpage claims to have sent.)

Have you checked your junk mail filters, if you have any? If you use gmail or hotmail or a similar service it could be that the email is being grabbed by the filter.

The payment model is indeed way over the top. Full retail price, PLUS monthly fees, PLUS cash shop. They've got to be kidding...

Alex, my experience of Fury is that once you get over the hill and learn the 'how' of playing, you are probably going to enjoy the game.
However, that is a damn steep hill and I'm still pushing upwards.

I yet again completely missed it...
