Not so perfect world (but fun anyway!)

When a game goes so far as to claim perfection in its namesake, one expects no less than the perfect game. I must say I was slightly disappointed by Perfect World due to a few imperfections like:

#1 It still uses locked character classes - I, for one, am sick to death of being stuck in the same boring profession and having the same strengths and weaknesses as everyone else in my profession. It gets boring when you know at a glance what the most likely loadout for the other players is. I was really hoping for a skill based system where a player can mix and match skills to make a unique load for their character. Better luck next time I guess.

#2 Race locked classes - to make the fixed class thing worse, they made your character even less unique by locking classes to certain races. If you want to be an archer you have to be one of the flying elves, if you want to summon a pet to fight for you, you need to be a foxgirl. The beastman can only be a heavy tank type warrior... you get the idea.

#3 Gender lock on the two beast races - Why can't the beastmen have a female version and why can't there be fox guys (as in more human appearance male beast characters)?

#4 Lack of character creation options for the beastmen - I can't change the colour of the fur for the wolfman (I wanted a white wolf but no luck). I couldn't make a grizzly bear either, just panda... Is unfair! all other races get all kinds of cool options but the beastmen don't WTF!?

#5 Beast forms don't match the type of animal you are! - If you make a wolfman, you expect to transform into a wolf.. right? WRONG! you still become a white tiger like everyone else!! Same thing for catgirls, they still become foxes... Just ain't right if you ask me! Your transformed form should match the kind of animal you are. Even the girls that chose the bunny ears should turn into a rabbit... Just seems more natural than "I'm a wolf but I transform into a tiger.."

#6 Winged elves.. winged friggin flying elves!!!! - They probably thought "Every MMO has elves these days, how can our elves be better?.. Lets give them wings!". Ok, I really don’t have that big of a problem with this except that they should have made the wings stay on your back in a folded position when not flying instead of having the two stupid little wing things sticking out of your head. Well, at least there are no dwarves, gnomes, trolls or orcs so maybe I can forgive having elves just this once. ...Then again, they are more like a half-angel than an elf anyway so really there is no elves either if you think of it like that..

#7 Limited weapon and armour choices (at least at low level) - It seems like there are only 3 kinds of armour and 4 of each weapon type for each level range. I know some have different buffs than others but they basically all look the same. Seeing a dozen people with all the same armour and weapon gets boring no matter how different their faces are. I was really hoping for a huge database of all kinds of interesting weapons ranging from your usual swords, spears and bows up to the really unusual anime-inspired weapons like the giant spatula Ukyo wields in Ranma 1/2 for example (kinda like Anarchy Online which has almost too many -- which is a very good thing!). It is still beta, so maybe they will add more armour and weapon options in the future.

#8 all outdoors so far - I see lots of houses and buildings but they turn out to be just for show since there is no way to go inside them. All vendors and quest givers seem to be standing outside so there is no need to go inside but without the option to go in a house or shop the game seems somewhat lacking. I have heard people say things about player housing but can't be certain to how true such rumours are.

#9 repetitive monsters - As I level, I see the same kinds of monsters over and over again only at higher level and maybe a different colour. A little boring if you ask me.

#10 Not in English yet! - I know they are taking longer to make sure it's right but the waiting is getting harder and harder... Especially when they keep pushing back the English client release yet another month all the time! I can do all the basic stuff even when I can't read a word of the language but I can't help but to think I'm missing half the fun of the game like this. I recently installed a third-party translation patch and it helped alot. Even still, it just isn't the same as a clean, fully completed professional translation.

#11 No short or fat people - In their nearly perfect character creation system, they left out the ability to make your character fat or short. Making a sumo wrestler or a midget would be kinda cool but it can't be done.

#12 No in-game character customization - for the first two days (maybe just one, not sure) you can go back and alter the look of your character. After that, there is no changing it. They could have at least put in some hair dyes, tattoos, new hairstyles, piercings, and other in-game modifications for your character's appearance.  There is social clothing that is an overlay to change the appearance of your armour. However it seems to be cash shop only and if you buy from cash shop the colours are random so it is likely that nothing will match when you buy it. As far as I know, clothing dyes haven’t been implemented yet so social/fashion clothes are really not worth it yet if you ask me.

-----------------

Ok, I've established that the game is far from perfect as its namesake suggests. But I have to give credit where it is due: This game pwns WOW for the following reasons:

-----------------

#1 Character customization! - Unless you pick beastman race, the customization options are just plain awesome! No more traveling around and seeing people that look exactly like you all the time. I couldn't stand the freakish clone farm feeling I got from WOW. This is way better IMO.

#2 Higher max level - lvl 60 (70 with TBC) is too easy to get to if you ask me. About 200 levels seems to be a good amount and PW has that.

#3 Mounted combat - you can't fight while riding in WOW but you can in PW! ...adds an entirely new aspect to the combat.

#4 Aerial combat! - You can fight anywhere -- land, sea and air! And there are monsters to fight in all these places too.

#5 Weapons not class locked - all weapons (except crossbows and slingshots that are reserved for archers) can be used by anyone that has the skills for it. I was annoyed that I couldn't make a priest with a bow (to save my mana solely for heals and still have a ranged attack) in WOW but I can in PW. Only drawback is that you can't cast with a weapon equipped (except mage type ones but they are all melee). But you can hotkey your weapon to equip and unequip it at the push of a key. So just unequip, cast, then re-equip…only 3 keystrokes and 2 keys… easy, eh?

#6 The graphics in PW are by far better than WOW on highest settings - The world is just plain beautiful. You'd have to see for yourself to appreciate it.

#7 Flying mounts at level 30! - after doing a quest at level 30, all classes can then have their very own flying mount! If you are a winged elf, you are flying from level 1. WOW just added a flying mount but is harder to get one than in PW and you can't fight while riding it.

#8 Social mode - This feature allows you to quickly change from armour to something unique looking for roleplay and just for fun. Also, while your social clothes are displayed, your armour's buffs are all still active so you can fight and still look good! in WOW, you have to manually change your items out for this and there is really no social clothes even available (there are but nobody really uses them in WOW). Only downside is that clothes for social mode are sold only in cash shop or in game from players who bought them at the cash shop. They come in random colours and as i mentioned earlier, they haven't added clothing dyes yet. Once they do, It still costs less to put a little money into a cash shop item(s) than to pay for a box copy, expansions, and a monthly fee.

#9  === ITS FREE ===  - there is a cash shop but it only sells status items (not uber weaps and armour like most do) and crafting materials (for those too lazy to farm them in game)  and social items. The cash shop stuff gives no real in-game advantages and there is no software fee if you download the game (they do sell it on disk for those who can't wait for a free 2GB download to finish) There are also no monthly fees... Essentially is completely free! With what you spend on your box copy and monthly fees in WOW, you could buy all those nice items in the cash shop but you really don't need them so save that money and buy a good graphics card (if you don't already have one) and play PW on highest settings!

---------------------------

In conclusion, "Perfect World" is far from being perfect but it is the closest we will probably ever get to it from a free game. I, for one, am likely going to give up paying a monthly fee for WOW (which I haven’t been in game for over a month due to being bored with it anyway) to play PW instead. As far as ever seeing what I would call "the perfect game", it will likely never happen. So, as long as you don't go in expecting perfection as the name suggests, PW is at least worth giving a try...  Just my thoughts on it.

Why must every one compare every game to WoW? Its not the only MMO to ever exist ya know.... but for some of your complaints, keep in mind its still in beta and they probably still have some things to polish and what not for when its released. So I expect some of these things to possibly be fixed in the future. And while you say getitng max level in WoW is too easy, I agree, but I sure dont enjoy a HUGE gind to 200 or so. I dont want to spend a year or so leveling to higher levels to PvP and play other endgame content, that no fun.  And I would expect the game to be mostly out doors, thats the way its done in most Asian MMOs. And I dont see this game comparing too well with WoW,  western and eastern MMOs .

Just some of my random thoughts on some of your points.
