AoC end game is like WoW with hardcore pve raiding for the best armors and weapons.
Wrong three threads in a row now. AoC's best stuff will come from crafting using resources from the Border Kingdoms, where you have to PvP to own your own battle keep ( castle ). Once you own a battle keep you can resource gather in the border kingdoms and those resources will be the best in the game. Crafting will grant the best gear.
From our devs on these forums again I post their quote:
the vision for Conan was not to make a game for raiders. The visions for Conan were scenes from Braveheart and playing games like Dynasty Warriors, being badass, and reading the stories and comics. It was not a vision of 50 people fighting dragons.
You are slightly mistaken there. The best PvE gear will come from raids or crafted gear made from materials gained in raids. The best PvP gear will come from PvP activities such as you described
There is also nothing wrong with hardcore raiding. It is not for everyone but if done right it; is very enjoyable to me.

1. U want pve go for AoC. 2. no this is not daoc which ppl get killed in 2 sec. 3. they are at war, what do u expect them to look like? charge into enemy with smiling face? 4. ever heard of shadowbane? eventually the largest guild wins and samething will happen to AoC. 5. so u are one of those omg it has blood !!! u might as well go play AoC if thats all u care about. 6. so u care more about the faces than the game play itself, why not go play Vanguard ?
in Age of Conan the pvp city raids are prearranged. but in any case even if 'one guild won' then that would be a good thing. I want to -WIN-. that means one guild standing and everyone else is crushed.

I find it funny that you quote that. Because Jayde has always said that he loves raiding and that he's a hardcore raider and that a lot of them are.
The funny thing to me is that if this is truly their "vision" then why did they show a High Level Raid as their showcase for E3?

Likely because the internet they were using wasn't all that good back at the hotel where their other users were staying and this is why they could show the PVE content like that. They could change the stats of their characters so they could take on an instance. With bad internet it is hard to showcase pvp. If you went to gen con this weekend you wouldn't be asking because pvp was showcased a bit there.
Also, Jayde is not the one who wrote that quote it was Athelan. Also, show me a quote from Jayde where he admits he doesn't like a certain part of the game. He claims they all love crafting, they all love pvp, and they all love raiding. Just pointing out one thing he says sort of nulls the argument unless you are willing to tell the entire story.
Edit: Also forgot to add that you can only showcase what is done. They are revamping the combat big time so that it takes less time to learn. PvP obviously is not done yet in Age of Conan, we are just now getting shown pictures from big siege battles, so I would imagine pvp footage is on its way.
1) We have seen more of WAr than of aoc.. players have in crazy numbers went to the many many conventiosn WAr allows people to play at. Thye make there OWN un -edited un-filterd videos and post them on the web. They also have done write ups, on this site there are a small few but there are so very many acrossed the web.
These are people who haved played a beta version of the game and are not under any NDA.
2) while AoC has yet to release any quality/Quanity vids of pvp let alone, massive pvp. there are vids of both of WAR. War also not redoing their combat system. Still im sure WAr is being changed and revised as much as AOC is .. maybe not as much the core aspect sof the game but still ... AoC might be more polished in other areas.
However, No matter , atm WAr has show proof of their promises at a higher rate than AoC has, in fact I have not seem more what Funcom promisses in any vids yet (other than the combat, and mounts) Mounts look cool, but i think the combat needed a revision (mind you it not just an make it easyer to learn revision.. its a make it not broke revision) As i have seen devs. claim that Beta players just spammed one thing over and over and ignored combos... Its not only difficulty but lack of usefulness that would cause this.
Still really i should not have said anythign about AoC because this topic is about WAR. But it was taken over again.
WAR looks like WoW = bad WHY ? If WAr looks bad just say it looks bad. That being said they don't look that much alike ... other than they are useing a more basic shape to their characters ... it popular and its easy on the computers , which is important when you have 400 vs 400 players.
WAR could be darker ... but their goal is not to depress their players i feel (no really they want things to look wicked but not to dark becuase they want the game to be fun, and popular).
i like what orcs look like when they are walking with the camara in 3rd person. Their shoulder heave and ho.. that beign said i don't like their faces ... and i don't think ur supposted to.
RVR may not be balanced who knows.. it takes a lot of work .. and honestly mythics not bad at balancing... they just react too slowly and nerf to harshly. IF lets say choppas are doing too much dmaage off that bat instead of a all around 20% damage nerf they should try 5% first. However, mythic likes to over nerf. And they are still doing it with DAOC , so i do see this as a problem.

If you have read other threads that did not mention AoC you will see that I have defended WAR from the haters, it is when people jump to conclusions about AoC that I bring these things up. Like Jor888 claiming it will be a pve game, and the other user asking why they havent shown large scale pvp yet. They did at Gen Con this weekend.
Just for two pictures of what people snapped while there. Some of us got to play for upwards of 45 minutes to an hour but you have to understand it is a huge convention with a ton of people so not many people got to play for that sort of time.
Back on topic though WAR has nothing to worry about, it will be a fine game. Realm vs Realm alone will sell games, and the fact you have the Warhammer IP behind it? Easy money, and these are the creaters of RvR so you know that will be done tastefully.

IMO That system is not going to work - its just going to end up being how Shadowbane ended up: With a handful of guilds running the server. Noobies will be SOL and the game will die.
As for the fluid combat - well I might believe you if they would release some game footage that doesn't consist of a bunch of 8 frame shots stuck together.

The problem with shadowbane wasn't just gameplay, but community. Guilds will have to option of owning PVE Cities, and a PvP Battle Keep ( castle ) to go along with PVE raiding, crafting, real role play chances. Also, a guild can only own one battle keep, which gives the opportunity for many guilds to own one. Noobies won't be SOL because of the bounty system that prevents ganking, and the game won't die. Look at Shadowbane, not dead. Look at Vanguard, still not dead.
They are showcasing PvP at this upcoming event so you will be able to see your pvp then.
Also, to the poster talking about which game owns on paper, yes AoC on paper looks better, but mmos are not paper games. On paper certain baseball teams and football teams look great. Just because on paper they are good, does not mean they will actually be good.
WAR has a lot of promise behind it and they are using a proven system that works. RvR is fantastic and so is the Warhammer IP. You can not go wrong.

If a handful of guiolds end up running the server how can this not be good?!? That is how it is *SUPPOSED* to be. Real war, taking over land, crushing your enemies morale. make them cry, surrender and join your cause or gtfo off *your* server.
Age of Conan will have way too much PVE content and consentual raids of some sort so that wont happen. It's in the FAQ
not a huge AoC fan. used to be more for WAR until the latest podcasts and what they've been showing around

Play or you should have played Shadowbane i wa sin a dominate guild ... it still was not fun becuasae there was little challenge. However, unlike SB AoC will have a small pvp area so players can still pve just fine. Like DAOC did, and this worked great for DAOC,a nd i do not think it will be a big deal or problem in AoC.
PS whitedelight i was not adressing anyone really just stating on the flow of the thread.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
I play eVE and I'm a member of a leading Alliance. It is not boring and this issue does not exist. maybe SB just needed bigger landmass. I dunno but in anycase this wont be an issue in AoC according to their faq
and yeah I guess I am sort of 'cheering' for AoC these days lol
I was trying to find the best place for people to educate themselves on WAR if they have any sort of questions and the tools I've found most useful are the podcasts describing the game on the Warhammer site, and fan videos from conventions and especially the recent gathering Mythic hosted for the fansite leaders.
Oh and it also helps to attend Gamesday and see the game firsthand, along with a presentation by Mythic.
I do still have my own concerns related to the game, the main one being whether they can make it as good as they can sell it. I've gotten hyped up on games before *cough*SWG*cough* that havn't delivered. However, Warhammer Online has 2 things they didn't 1.) Mythic not SOE and 2.) Alot of opportunities for everyone to get their hands on the game before launch. #2 is the fact that quells alot of my fears related to the game because to me the more people they are willing to show the game to before they launch the more confident they must be that its all coming together they way they planned.
In regards to the OP.. I have two major (for me) concerns with this game.
Those are:
1) Mythic
2) EA (which now owns Mythic).
DAoC was probably the first smooth MMO launch I had experienced (previous to that it was something like UO, EQ and AO for me as I skipped AC1 which to me was crap but that was just me no offense to AC fans).
It went from that smooth launch to one of the most cluster f... games I had ever experienced.. For a company that seemed to be striving for class balance (mythic). Almost every expansion either added some stupidly over powered class or ability that was never meant to affect RvR (ie: the entire Atlantis expansion). That's just one example but probably one of the most extreme from my point of view.
EA... um what more needs to be said in regards to them really. If you don't know much about EA (hey its possible) you might want to research their history with MMO's.
None of that means WAR won't or can't be good.. it could be a great (the pod casts are pretty um interesting to say the least). It just means that neither of these companies has a long term "good" rep with mmo's at least in my opinion having been a customer of both.
I'm not sure why AoC was brought up in this thread... why in the hell is it always this or that game will be better? I mean if AoC and WAR both were awesome games isn't that a good thing? and if one of them sucks.. as MMO players.. shouldn't that be bad? Shouldn't everyone want them to both be good games?
Just don't comprehend the posts people make in regards to those games or other similar examples.
If you want to talk about AoC... if I related it to my concerns about WAR..
Funcom.. horrid launch with AO.. small company.. very little funding yet is still around with a game that is actually improved.
I mean honestly 4 or 5 years later.. Funcom has a better rep (in my eyes) than either mythic or EA.
Oh and I don't even play AO (haven't for years). But I can log into daoc tonight and see the new dayglo idiot icons.. and the crayon UI that replaced perfectly good/working icons/ui. That would be another great area for concern..
Oh if you haven't seen the current Icons/UI for DAoc and used to play.. you might want to look for a screenie... because if they put that crap in WAR... um ya.. anyway...
Personally I hope that WAR ... AND... AoC are both great games.. I mean as an MMO player why would I hope for anything else.
*edited for some grammer and added new mistake for balance*
Intresting you should mention launches. Hopefully FC learn't something from AO the game was pretty much foobared until 6 months after launch. Actually it wasn't really really solid for a lot longer. For a long time it held the worlds worse title. DAOC was solid on day 1. Mythic also established the benchmark for CS and openness and transparency (just look what they are showing warts and all) I have no doubt I'll be playing both seems likely that it'll be WAR first.
AoC, will have more competitive PvP then WAR. One reason I disliked WoW, was because of RvR BG's, and WAR focus's on RVR. To where in Conan, battles are fought between guilds, personal disputes and grudges.
Aoc also has a better combat system. WAR has a similair interface to WoW, but also has a Similair combat system to WoW (i hear much less CC though)
these 2 games, are entirely different. WAR is taking everything that has worked in previous games much like WoW, and tossing it into one with a pvp focus. AoC, is going a new rate, there coming in with a level system, and giving it a sandbox end game. with a new combat system that no other game has attempted. Funcom, is also attempting to keep pvp on a more personal touch, opposed to WoW type pvp, where you kill someone and feel no real accomplishment.
My playstyle, will leads me to see AoC will fit me much better then WAR, I see WAR ending up with the same fruitless type of pvp system that WoW. and when i say system, WoW had an FPS game feeling to it when it came to pvp. I see AoC being more competitive, especially since there are large risk is losing, both for guilds and individuals.
But its ok, ppl who though WoW was a great pvp game, need a new game to go to. Im glad, its WAR, and i won't see the wow community in AoC, but more of a ShadowBane, UO, SWG type community.

At least Funcom, didn't have a smooth launch with AO, and F*** it up like some other companies we know of. DAOC probably had some of the worst patches implemented, aside from SOE and SWG
The real problem with WAR is liklely to be the class balance issues. I played DaoC for many years during Beta and thereafter. Mythic were absolutely hopeless in that were forever tweaking and balancing classes which just led to huge angst and ever decreasing player numbers. The main problem, particularly for the older players is they get emotionally invested in their toons and develop a certain familiarity with a playstlye. When you go and change the character skillset so as to render a spec line nugatory you often loss the player entirely. Those of us who stayed with the game long term just bounced from toon to toon when our current classes were nerfed. Unfortunately that approach isn't everyones cup of tea. I have a real fear that Mythic, who have never demonstrated even a remote potential to learn from their mistakes, will repeat those blunders with WAR. I fully expect the game to start off with a huge player base and then decline very quickly as nerf follows nerf. I hope I'm wrong but I've witnessed Mythic destroy too many players enjoyment of DaoC to be naive about what the future holds for WAR. I probably still play it, but unlike DaoC if they start to head down the same route I'll be moving on fast to make sure I don't miss out on a game with long term potential.
is there actually a way to balance classes without making every class the same. its not as easy as you may think.

RvR BGs.... You don't know what RvR is do you? I'm going to stop there, since this really kind of throws your entire opinion down the toilet.

ATM AoC combat is broken .. thats the reason for the delay .. ie combat sucked. It is possbile that they will make it better, however to claim that AoC has better combat , when they just delayed the game because the combat sucked seems off.

The press release states that the combat was to hard for people to learn. Basically what they are doing now is rewroking the way combo's work so that people will actually use them intentionally. They are adding in a system that will tell the order for specific combinations. Because they have to make icons for all the combos, add in new code, and modify the melee system for the caster classes the game is being delayed. They said that the new system will be in place by December and that the extra few months before release is incase they need to tweak the system further. This may or may not be the only reason for the delay, but it gives them more time to finish up the game and get everything polished.

1. Im sorry but if your looking for pve I dont think WAR will be your game.
2. The game is in Alpha stage and you are compairing it to a game that was suppose to be realeased next month.
3, How can you have a problem with the character mobles when you say you are going to AoC? Have you seen the game play videos of AoC they are in line with EQ1 that game looks like its on par with games what were released in 2k.
4. Every game is going to have balance issues, dont thik for a min that AoC isnt going to have an OP class and everyone playing FOTM classes. Balance is something that will always get worked out. Maybe unbalanced for awhile but doesnt last forever. Welcome to MMOs IMO
5. Alpha as in the very first stage, graphics will be polished over and over agian before retail. They have even said in countless interviews that it is not going to look like WoW. The UI is going to look 100% different than it does now they are just not there yet.
6. Agian have you looked at the finished character models of AoC lol? You have a problem with the character modles of a game in Alpha stage but you think AoC got it right? Look at WoW in Alpha stage it looks like complete junk. I hate WoW graphics as well but I am more of a L2 graphics fan. You cant really judge the graphics just yet wait until a month before realease then you can.
I understand what you are saying but you have got to remeber the game has a long way to go. Its not even out of the Alpha stage yet and you are compairing it to AoC. Which I dont really get because their character models are like I said almost 5 years out of date. If you like the real life looking type of graphics compair AoC to Lineage 2 graphics AoC doesnt even come close.

I don't exactly know what questions of mine you are "answering" (considering most of those answers have next to nothing to do with the questions I have asked). How can you say WAR could not be "my game"? Is it because I have expressed an interest in PvE content and was worried that it could be forgetten in favour of nothing but PvP/RvR?
The only way I have "compared" these games is pointing out the differences in the type of PvP they will have. Pointing this out has nothing to do with what stage of completion the game is in. AoC will have GvG combat and WAR will have RvR combat. This was true a year a go, it is true now, and it will likely be true a year from now (no one can predict the future).
I like AoC's graphics because they look a lot more life like and less animated then what you see in a lot of other games. The only problem I have with WAR's graphics are the faces of the Orks. I just don't like the flattish, squaring faces they have. No ones opinion is better than anyone elses, I have never said that anyone has to like something because I like it and I will not like something because someone tells me to. When I posted about the Orks faces I was prefacing another point (That this lighting engine looks to have solved). L2's graphics are not life like, they just aren't that bright. You have to remember that the character models for AoC are not complete either.
Where on Earth are you getting class ballance from? I have never mentioned that in any of posts. What I was worried about was one faction out numbering the other, causing the RvR battles to tip in the over populated sides ballance. I am not even going to pretend that WAR's or AoC's classes will be completetly ballanced, especially at release.
And with my last point I did mention the Orks, but the post was about the "mood" of the world. The world just doen't have that sense of darkness that I have heard is all the source material. This should be fixed with the lighting engine, but I made this post before I knew about it. When I made this post it was very valid (and could still be).
I would just like to end by saying that both games are in beta and or only really at the start of their beta phase. I am not trying to compare AoC to WAR, but I will point out when people spread misinformation about AoC. I hope people do the same to me if I am mistaken in my views of WAR (and I hope they do so politly, as I have always tried my best to do). The only thing I was looking for in this post was some answers about WAR that I could not find myself. Than some people had to come in and ruin the spirit of the thread with the whole "ZOMG u mentioned aoc u r such a fanboi, dont u no u can only b intrestid in 1 game u n00b?!!?" attitudes (this is an exageration, but after reading some posts in this thread some people may aswell have just said this line). I want to know about both games and I will probably play both games, but I want as much information about these games as I possibly can before I purchase them.

There was more than one release one of them said that the beta testers said the combat was crap all they did was spam one button because there was no reason to combo. Yet another said 100% what you said , but then agian i read a ton of stuff.

At least Funcom, didn't have a smooth launch with AO, and F*** it up like some other companies we know of. DAOC probably had some of the worst patches implemented, aside from SOE and SWG
Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed AO. You know what....Ive been back to it a couple of times when there's nothing I fancy playing. Gotta be one of the best freebies available. What I really like is the difference - it is quite different under the hood to all the EQ clones. You still press a key to launch a skill (roll on Wii controler support ) Having said that If you released a title in the condidtion AO was at launch nowadays it would be doomed.
AC darktide had guild orientated PvP (though that was through natural selection rather than game mechanic). DAoC is the obvious realm vs realm champ. Both where great fun. If I had to say which style I preferred I would be torn.
At least Mythic are transparent and open about what they do. They also listen to the community (though perhaps still ignore them)! Dosent make poor choices good <shrug>.
As I say Im sure I'll play both....if they launch close one may have to wait a while. I simply look for fun nowadays (enjoyed lotro for a while). A whole heap of things make up fun not enough time to go into that.
Conan is a great IP so is AO...I'd love to see AO 2 or even AO 1.5. Still enjoy the 'feel' of it (good 'feel' helps 'fun'). Actually the IP dosen't bother me so much but clearly publishers thing it might sell extra boxes.
You know what when I get bored of Lotro I may go back to AO one more time and start out with my son. Engineer and Metaphysist that would be cool. Guess I'd have to let him be the engineer.

I find it funny that you quote that. Because Jayde has always said that he loves raiding and that he's a hardcore raider and that a lot of them are.The funny thing to me is that if this is truly their "vision" then why did they show a High Level Raid as their showcase for E3?

Ok two short things,
1) We have seen more of WAr than of aoc.. players have in crazy numbers went to the many many conventiosn WAr allows people to play at.

PS whitedelight i was not adressing anyone really just stating on the flow of the thread.

The Mythic podcasts are at : http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/podcast/
Another good group of videos: http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15936
TimberDragon
DAOC probably had some of the worst patches implemented, aside from SOE and SWG
is there actually a way to balance classes without making every class the same. its not as easy as you may think.
RvR BGs.... You don't know what RvR is do you? I'm going to stop there, since this really kind of throws your entire opinion down the toilet.
