You can buy the "starter pack" from EB for $3.99

As far as I can understand it is the original release of FFXI with no expansions. It's not really a trial, it is the game. You get 30 days free but it is a normal subscription like any other.

I just bought the Starter Pack edition today for £4.99. Basically what you get is the original game and all three expansions and a registration key for the original game and one months free play time so it is the full game and not a trial. But you don't have access to the expansions unless you purchase three registration keys for them off the PlayOnline thing, the expansion keys are about $9.99 or something. Tbh I don't know whether thats a good or bad thing considering I could buy FFXI Online and all three of the expansions off the net for like £14.99 or something. I only bought it because it was the only one in stock in the store and was £4.99 and I had been mean to tryout the game for a while now. It was sort of an impulse buy. It's currently updating atm, I haven't installed any of the expansions yet because theres no reason to when you can't use them, I have only installed the original game.
