Again some cheap video to show some fake siege and u got some ppl buying this whole thing all over again lol. Hello, WAR doesnt need to prove to anyone about their massive rvr b/c its been done for 5 yrs with daoc. On the other hand AoC needs to prove it can do it but this video is just too fake. How many ppl they have testing AoC right now? and they cant get them to all test siege at once? They have to use npc to fake it?
Another thing that drives me away from this game is everyone looks exactly the same. Not impressive at all.

Weeks ago, the coneboys went on and on about how Funcom would show real siege footage with lots of live players at once, and that it would 'shut up the naysayers'. If they had actually done that I was fine with admitting I had been mistaken. But I never truly believed the coneboys would be willing to admit the same when Funcom failed to deliver. They simply dont have the integrity.
Now funcom throws us a siege vid full of stationary bots and the coneboys eat it up like a dog eats turds on the lawn. Want some water to wash that down, boys? Complete and utter trash. Can't depend on them to be honest about anything.

They did say "Massive Siege with people able to PvP live."
What they actually did. They let people play the canned, arena PvP live.
And showed another demo with lots of NPCs of the Siege PvP.
So they didn't lie, they just mislead everyone. I honestly thought they were going to have 15-20 stations set up and put them on opposite sides of a field and let them go at it.
Instead, the PvP that people got to play was 3v3 CTF, while the Siege stuff was a demo.
Oh well. Lets see how much more stuff people are going to eat up.

The show finishes Sunday, we havent seen all the media yet...
I just want to try and clarify a few things that people seem to be concerned about. Note: All of this is subject to change, and could become outdated at anytime.
There are 3 levels of PvP objectives in the Border Kingdoms
Resources, which have a turnover time of 24 hours
Forts, which have a turnover time of 3 days
Battlekeeps, which have a turnover time of 7 days
In a given region there may be 3 Battlekeeps, 4 Forts, and 6 or so resources, this is again based on my estimates during design and are rough.
No more than 9 Battlekeeps (meaning 3 different BorderKingdom regions) per server based on our early calculations of server population.
Holding PvP objectives garners various bonus's to the owner. Be it "buffs", resources, access to additional respawn points, in the case of the Forts and Keeps guildbank access etc.
No guild can hold more than one Keep, however on successfully destroying another keep if they hold one they will be entitled to a temporary additional set of bonus's
The basics of the system are two fold. Vulnerability Windows, and Capture Method.
Vulnerability Windows describes when something can be attacked, basically a window of time on a cycle. Owners of a PvP objective can change the time of a vulnerability window but it is limited in three ways.
1) it cannot exceed the time of the intended cycle (IE more than 24 hours for a resource)
2) it must be within server lockouts. (IE Not between midnight and 8am server local time)
3) the time can only be changed once per cycle (no flipping the time to be at 9 then flipping it to 4 at 3:45)
These guidelines are of course all there to make things as fair as can be and shut the doors on as many exploits as possible.
Capture Method
All resources use the same capture method.
This method is based upon "tickets" being accrued by having control of the central destructible object.
This may not be optimal for some people in some ways but again it alleviates many non fun elements. Let me give an example.
In some systems as soon as you "capture" the objective the window is over, this means someone rolls in at 4:01 on a window of 4-7pm and wins, game over pvp done.
In some other systems it matters who owns the objective right at the end. I hold the objective for almost 2 hours, another guild steamrolls me last 5 minutes, we lose.
Both of these were not acceptable to me so what we have is the "tickets"
Building the object accrues points while it is built. You can upgrade this to fortify it and give it other advantages.
If no object is built then Tickets can be gained through numerical superiority in the objects area.
Tickets are lost by deaths by your guild in the same area.
Tickets cannot go below zero
During the last portion of the Vulnerability Window Ticket gain will be doubled. (This gives you some chance of catching up if you did not hold onto the objective the entire time)
Ownership is tracked based on guild, a single individual cannot capture and hold an objective.
A guild may hold numerous resources and forts but only one Battlekeep
The Border Kingdoms is an open PvP area, this means that engaging other players is available at all times, except your own party or guild members.
Only one guild may win possession of an objective, however there is no limit to who wants to participate.
Yes this means you should be diplomatic and get help when defending/attacking, because you are going to have to give people reasons to want to help you. This also means controlling nearby forts is crucial to sieging to have fallback points for respawn for both defenders and attackers.
This eliminates problems with having "buddies" "alliance mates" "dummy guilds" you name it from declaring war and keeping an objective, especially a keep from being contented by people who really want to win it.
Depending on how long you hold out, you may have enough tickets to win a defense even if you are ousted eventually.
If you hold a nearby Fort or two you could also counterattack the keep etc.
Anyway I hope this clears up some things.
If I feel I completely missed something I may respond or edit the post however this is not an open all to "but what about" everything PvP related in this thread.

I'm just playing around, mostly. I got burned multiple times by the games "the Industry" told me would be great. So only "polished" impresses me. Don't show me something that has obvious easily pointed out flaws and expect me to "OO, AH." Not gonna happen. I am no longer a Fanboi. I am like Rod Tillman. "Show me the money."
I have not seen it yet from Age of Conan. Maybe I will next week.
Wait a sec, wasnt Funcom supposed to open up Siege PvP at Leipzeig to the people there and get a full siege going on with players? If this was the final demonstration of PvP, Id have to say that it was kind of underdelivered. I am not a fanboy nor a "warboi" (haha) but the whole presentation seemed to just lack in energy and life. NPC's stood there dumbly while only 1 player ran around. The combo and weapon system look great, I dont know *what* these other posters are thinking (apparently they think auto attack is better than dynamic combat) the mounts look nice, the sieging was SPED UP meaning that the physics were screwed up. Basically, this is what it is, a demo, nothing more. A rather lacking demo, but it did show what I needed to see.
If Funcom isnt done with their presentation yet, then that is excellent. I want to see real players doing some sieging and not some simulated fight. However, if this is all they have to offer, then even I am starting to have doubts. It does look kind of artificial, and I really would like to see something thats real.
By the way on a higher note, Im not surprised that the press gave this the award. All the other games there probably didnt look as great, and yes sorry WAR fans but including your precious WoWhammer err Warhammer In its own right regardless if the presentation doesnt live up to standards AoC is the best looking MMO I have seen out of all of them. And thats saying something,.
Who cares, this is so damn stressfull it's not even funny. The only winners and losers in this game will be us the customers. When we go home and install it , only to find out it's unplayable. Great graphics are present in all the games that will be released. But MMO's are becoming more stressful every year based on discussions such as this. We never know what to expect even after beta, then we go home and are fucked over for two weeks while such and such company works out the kinks. I love these games but sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it. This year to play any of the top 5 games you will be buying a 2000 dollar machine, this is not a problem, the problem is will we have a great looking game or a great looking game that works to validate the new expenses. Geeze and I thought farming for some weird ass control freak guild leader was bad, now we get to hear about new games that don't even work right. BTW what you are all seeing is huge video lag, and on the machines they are using that should not be the case. Screw any connection based lag over tcp/ip ( he is on a closed network), how about the issue where the guy is rotating the camera in the game only to have it look as though it was running at 12-15 fps.......give me a break fail more please. The camera rotation alone was as bad as my Duron 1200 on PC133 ram with a 128meg video card trying to run through Shat in WOW on a busy . ..... Sorry I'm all over the place with this discussion (I'm just pissed) but really the new gen mmos make me wonder if things could get any more worse, here we are with all these hopes for some really cool games being realeased, only to have them show some major creative, design, and performance flaws at each new demo, withus having to pick away at them.....These games are never getting released and when they do they will all fuck up not just one.
Boy Warboi's are out in force today. Pissed their game lost to AoC twice over I guess. It's not even worth posting stuff like this on here Avery. Warboi's that infest this forum would rip anything you post on here to pieces, as this thread clearly shows. Just stick with the official forums. Were at least even the complaint posts are constructive. I'd advise the Warboi's to do the same but, Mythic is to chicken shit to have their own forums, so they have to come here to work their frustrations out.
Dude, Fion, I feel like swearing at you but I can't cuz then I'll get banned so I will remain calm. But can you honestly take a break and stop typing for about 5 min. Everywhere I go I see your name plastered on the forums and I don't even have to read what you posted anymore, cuz somewhere in there you'll say something bad about WAR. Always, something about WAR. "So what did you have for breakfast this morning?" "You know city sieges are stupid cuz they might be instanced hahahahahaha! Warhammer is for losers hahaha!" STOP. For the love of God pls stop, it is very annoying... I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed this. You don't like WAR, I get it, everyone gets it! Keep your hands in your pockets and don't type anymore of this garbage. And calling Mythic chicken shit is not gonna solve anything either, it just makes you look pathetic.
Btw, nice word, Warboi, what does that make you? Aocboi? No that doesn't sound right... let's just call you Conan's boi
See WAR guys have no problem with AoC. I just got done watching that Siege demo. Interesting that that's the demo that won them an award. The trebuchets were probably my biggest pet peeve. I reeeeeally hope they do some serious work on them. The explosions were bad, the path the projectiles followed was incorrect, they just didn't act like a trebuchet would act. The path would have been high and slow. They really need to work on the physics if they're going to have siege engines in the game. The combat ..... well the combat is being tweaked so I'm sure that's not the final appearance (hopefully). It didn't really feel like there was a siege going on. Those walls instantly crumbled and the trebuchets fired as fast as a gun. There has to be a delay if it's a trebuchet. Like a 30 second delay, or even 10 seconds or something. They need to go pick up a copy of Age of Empires 2, and build and fire a trebuchet. Or watch the Minas Tirith fight in the Lord of the Rings Return of the King movie. Being highly physics minded that video made me cringe. Please don't sacrifice the physics of a trebuchet for anything.... please.
Pretty much everything you saw there was artificially sped up. They were cramming an hours long siege into a few minute's long demo. The walls I know went down much faster than they would normally, and I believe the Treb firing rate was also changed. That pretty much just leaves the projectile path and particle affects, both of which are easily adjusted as the Beta goes on.

The presenter was Gaute Godager himself. He has the right attitude, he's enthusiastic about his game. But you are right, he's a Norwegian that doesn't know how to present well to an American audience. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about how well or poorly its presented, niether case matters one bit in the end. The only thing that really does matter is how it plays at and after launch.

Thats nice of you to follow him all around the forums on your own crusade as well. This makes you look pathetic, a bit like Battlekruse digging up Fions two, 1 year old posts. The fact that we are posting news about AoC for people that are actually interested in the game, or new to hearing about it is not a bad thing. Fion states to me that this thread will be infested with warhammer fans (regardless of name terminology) trying to rip apart the new information - do you really want to deny that hasn't happened? Doesn't matter what has gone on elsewhere - he is just proving a point. I can think of half a dozen plus names so far who have declared that they have no interest in the game but still continue to spread game hate and get away with it behind two line false contrary statements in their postings.
The whole seige thing, lets get this straight, it was the official fans on the forums and here - myself included who hoped that Funcom would show a live event where by there would be a suitable amount of people in a live seige event.
However, Funcom's Official take is:
"Durham, USA – August 20th, 2007 – Funcom’s highly anticipated massively multiplayer online game ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’ is getting ready to invade this year’s Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Not only will the siege warfare system be demonstrated to select press behind closed doors, gamers will also be able to join in on the fun by playing against each other in brutal, bloody, and ferociously fast-paced player-versus-player battles on the show floor.
“It is time for the gloves to come off,” says Game Director Gaute Godager. “This is the first time we will let consumers get their hands on the game at a trade show and we are kicking off by letting them experience the intensity of player-versus-player battles. This is the true Conan experience – bloody and barbaric!”
The siege warfare gameplay, one of the most anticipated features in ‘Age of Conan’, will be shown behind closed doors for select press for the first time ever."
Here to me it gives the impression that players at the GC will be able to experience PvP battles, it doesn't necessarily state that, that will be "Seige" PvP. They unleased another TWO unknown types of mini PvP games, and so far this is what the public has played.
Seige info = demonstrated behind closed doors to select press.
Public Players = Bloody and barbaric PvP = the mini PvP games shown - on the show floor!
With the event ending this Sunday, there might be time for more of a player hands on showing with the seige info. But, most likely we are probably to see company and press media about it going into next week.
So its a fact, the seige info got hyped before official word got out, chinese whispers happened, fans of other games ran amock shouting " they lied " etc etc (don't deny) - and before we knew most of us - including me thought we would see the gamers get their hands on the Border Kingdoms. This hasn't happened yet..... however, what has happened includes:
1. Unknown Seige information release - quite a wealth of information actually, 2 commentries and walkthoughs - Q&A.
2. New PvP mini games, rules sets for one.
3. Full HoX transformation!
4. PvP videos for 4 classes - so far - including lists of previously unknown skills / feats / attributes and gear.
5. Dozens of new screenshots - some showing some majorly impressive looking Boss's
6. New Dungeon semi walkthrough commentry
7. Every person who has reported back has gave the game two thumbs up (on the most part - including constructive crititism)
8. New mounts shown in action
9. Information on previously Official Forum debated "Mercenary System" - indepth!
10. Deserved Awards (2) to Funcom for their showing at GC.
11. What looks like to me over an hours combined video footage (anyother game there claim to have more?)
12. A pretty good beta build (in respect to the last one) - still with some kinks in (sliding on some class type animations)
13. One kid who played AoC for 6 hours straight, couple of dodgy looking female Barbarians and an awesome set up on the game floor.
To mention a few things.
So before all you non believers and game haters get in over your head with the doom posts we are so commonly affronted with, bear in mind the greater majority of players, readers and interested followers really appreciate all that was shown and the new information that came with it - all be less that what some might of expected or thought or were lead to believe with regards to seige warfare.
6 more months of dedicated Beta testing still to go, so you know when the dicks make comments to the contrary, fan or otherwise you kinda have to step back and laugh your head off.
Personally, I am really happy with the direction the game is going, just a little disapointed, because, in my mind I had envisioned a 20 v 20 human seige fight. But that was probably wishfull thinking.. lol
Day 2 recap if you haven't read what Stradden / mmorpg.com has to say:
"Next, we saw an Age of Conan presentation. Boy howdy that game is looking good. They showed us the standard introduction to the game, but then moved on to telling us about their siege PvP system. I won’t go into great detail myself, as they did a fantastic presentation and you can see it yourself when the video goes live (as soon as we have a chance to process it). We filmed the entire presentation. It’s enough to say though that it really looked cool. I’m really glad these guys pushed back their release. It shows that they’ve learned from other people’s mistakes and want to be sure the game is fully ready before commercial launch. Smart."

Oh so if there was some guy continuously posting crap about AoC you wouldn't say anything? Of course you would, you have made plenty of examples of that. And the reason why I said what I did is not because I'm pissed off about what he said, I'm annoyed that he continues to do it, over and over. And I do not follow him, I follow the most recent posts, and it just so happens that he's up there the most, always posting about how badly something was done. Go see for yourself, it'll take you about 5 seconds if you have a fast computer.
I don't see whats so great about this pvp seige. It will be NOTHING compared to the sieges in WAR.

Coming from a chap who thinks:
" WoW redefined the meaning of PvP by creating extremely fun PvP that cannot be found in other games."
Good for you and your opinion, but its kinda pointless posting it in this section of mmorpg.com. Not to mention what has been shown with warhammer seiges.
@ Butters I respect your opinion and where your tastes lie, Fion doesn't need me to defend himself, whether he needs to do it himself is up to him ,but I think alot of what he says is very accurate. He posts alot of constructive crititism on the offical boards and puts forward great ideas. He has an interest in war too, however, I dont so you wont see me posting over the other side unless something really grabs my attention.
Fions statement + Your backlash = Kerlon's post kinda funny.
Ok now lets not make ourselves look stupid by bitching about sieging in WAR. Mythic has pulled it off quite nicely in DAoC and there is no reason to believe that they wont suceed in War.
Anyhow, concerning the AoC video - I thought it looked pretty good actually. Looks like fun. However, I share the concerns voiced by others that this demo is not at all a good indication of the actual performance in a siege battle. The majority of NPCs are in fact static which will have a much lower impact on overall performance than player characters would have. Ever since I learned about this game, I always thought that it will be interesting to see how they will pull off the performance/net-code part (Dragon Empires anyone...). Eye candy is all and good, but means nothing when the game cant handle massive numbers of players. So I remain interested, but sceptical .
Theres like hundred or so npcs on field and about no lag!
This will put Warhammers static battlegrounds to shame...SHAME!
Ofcourse it has no lag if you run it on a 4 gig 8000mhz whit 2x 8800 gtx in sli mode....wait thill you run it on your system

Eye candy is all it was lol.Just a bunch of automated npc running around a field while fireballs knock down a wall lol. They have over 1000 tested yet they cant test their system with real testers.I guess some people are happy with what they are getting.
You are right..Mythic have nothing to prove about their siege and RVR because they have been there and done that. Was this the big RVR-PVP showing they have been spouting on about for the last 4 weeks?i mean it just laughable to think anyone actually falls for this bull.
It all looked like a rigged demo lol any dev team on the planet could do the same.
You must be BLIND and DEAF then - sorry to hear that. Imperator was Mythics cancelled mmo with RvR, they had the wobbly's with it.
Do you know how many people are actually testing WAR - no you dont. Listen to the commentry again.
Imperator had nothing to do with RvR, it was going to be primarily a PvE game.
The fact that it didn't have RvR is probably one of the main reasons it was postponed indefinitely.
If Imperator was taken up again I am sure it will be built with RvR in mind.
So using Imperator as an argument about Mythic's lack of RvR experience is not so great. DAoC has proven they can do massive RvR quite well.

*yawn*
Fion your trolling is losing some of its luster. Honestly man... attacking lack of official forums... that the best you got?
You should listen to your own advice and stick to AoC official boards but we know you are a hypocrite. You are constantly attacking WAR on these boards and waving your epeen around like you matter to anyone. Both games have merits and Kudos to AoC for winning 2 awards at Leipzig. We both know that had WAR won you would have been all over the boards denouncing it as PR favoritism.
AoC brought new content to the convention... more then many people thought and not as much as they claimed... Over all they were the best at the show and deserved the awards. Just sad the fans from both sides can't act older then 2 year olds watching barney. Fion you seriously have no credibility on these boards anymore... that post of yours proves you to be a hypocrite and so many other of your posts prove you to be a troll.
-Atziluth-
- Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
I am in the same boat as you. I generally leave the WAR forums alone, I do read what is posted, but I normally leave the boards alone unless somebody who wants to play WAR states things about AoC that is far from true.

Do you know how many people are actually testing WAR - no you dont. Listen to the commentry again.

They did say "Massive Siege with people able to PvP live."What they actually did.

Now, that guy is impressive. I'll bet he can make the game impressive. . . Unless he's busy somewhere?
Anyone know?
Btw, nice word, Warboi, what does that make you? Aocboi? No that doesn't sound right... let's just call you Conan's boi

Demo could of been better but your presenter sucked, thats one thing WAR knew is selling a game is in the presentation, some guy who is clearly afraid of public speaking is doing nothing but harm to your game.

So I remain interested, but sceptical .
...put me in the highly disappointed camp...
Ofcourse it has no lag if you run it on a 4 gig 8000mhz whit 2x 8800 gtx in sli mode....wait thill you run it on your system
Playing: World of Warcraft.
Played: Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies.
Tried: Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
