Age of Conan: A Buff From Sex

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Fresh off the presses at the Games Convention in Leipzig, MMORPG.com has learned from a reliable source at Funcom that characters will be able to have sex and will receive a buff for the action. That is not to say, however, that there will be explicit sex in the game.

Anyone who has followed Robert E. Howard's creation knows that sex has been a prevalent theme in the Conan IP, which Funcom is doing their best to honor.

Age of Conan, as has previously been announced, will carry an "M" rating.

MMORPG.com will continue to follow this story as more specific information becomes available.

Cheers,

    Yep!

We know there will be NPC you can pay for love. They have already said it was a dark and gritty world.

Just as it is in Hyboria...and in the real world.

lol, i think you mean hello WoW kiddies and all those other horny 12 yr olds that had no reason to play mmos before now.  Trust me, the more mature a game is, the less mature the fan base...ok, not always, but a lot of times in my experience.

Not on RP servers :) 12 yr old would find say the warhammer lore more appealing in my opinion, from the fan base you see through the games workshop windows.

Kiddies will for sure find this game, it not like anyone under 15 has never seen a "R" rated movie for cryin out loud.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

You mean the same way that they don't let their kids play GTA, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, or God of War? </sarcasm>

Because an M rating keeps children from buying the game, right? Children never buy games like Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt, right?

This topic brings me to a question that i have been meaning to ask.

A friend of mine listens to podcasts all the time, and he said that he was listening to one with the Dev of Conan (forget the name), the Dev said that character models will not have nipples because to add nipples the game becomes "adult only".

Now someone tell me this is a joke. I am not jumping up and down to play Conan because i might see a cartoon girl topless (i have cable) but to advertise that you will have topless women characters in the game and then not have nipples is just silly. If that is the case they would be better off dressing these characters in sexy clothing instead.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_controversy

    • Duke Nukem 3D The 1996 PC first-person shooter game, which features many topless women throughout the game, posters of nude women, strippers and prostitutes, and even a pornographic book store/movie house. The main character (Duke, whom you control) even offers prostitutes and strippers money and asks them to "shake it baby". In the case of the strippers, they will open their top and expose their breasts.
    • God of War featured several scenes of big-chested topless women, including a particular scene where the character could have off screen sex with two half naked women in order to gain red orbs.
    • Custer's Revenge was a game for the Atari 2600, released by Mystique under the brand "Swedish Erotica" that featured a naked General Custer advancing across the screen, dodging arrows, until he could reach a topless Native American woman who was apparently tied to a pole, and then rape her. The game was controversial for its racism as well as its sexuality, and, while television news coverage on the subject featured game animation, parts of the screen were concealed with black rectangles in order to avoid showing nudity.
    • Sierra's Leisure Suit Larry computer games were popular tongue-in-cheek adventure games for adults in which the protagonist constantly attempted, usually without success, to convince women to have sex with him. The games did not excite much controversy despite showing partial nudity with increasing graphical quality over the years.
    • Eidos's Tomb Raider series were action-adventure games which featured a female protagonist named Lara Croft with extremely large breasts. The series did not explore sexual themes at all, but Lara was featured in video game magazines as a sex symbol, and it is generally believed that the success of the series over the years was partly due to the prominence of her appearance in the game's advertising and packaging (the game's appeal also inspired two movies based on it).
    • In June 2005, an entire portion of unused code for an interactive sex mini-game was found within the main script of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The game could be accessed in the PC version via a modification, and through Action Replay codes in the PS2 and Xbox versions. The fact that the scene was left on the disc and could be accessed by altering a few bytes of the game's code via a hex editor prompted the ESRB to change the rating of San Andreas to "Adults Only" on July 20, 2005. The game was pulled from many stores; Rockstar Games posted a loss of $280.8 million that quarter. (see hot coffee mod)
    • The US version of the game Fahrenheit (re-named as Indigo Prophecy for American audiences), published in September 2005; had scenes depicting sex and other "adult content" removed in order for it to be classified as a "Mature" title, as opposed to an "Adult Only" rating. This was probably done in light of "hot coffee" scandal (above).
    • The US version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was re-rated from "Teen" to "Mature" after it was discovered that a topless skin on female characters could be revealed through a Mod.
    • The Sopranos: Road to Respect-Towards the beginning of the game, the player enters the Bada Bang, the strip club owned by Tony and the gang. During many of the scenes, women are seen topless. There is also an option that if the player walks up to the stripper area, he can watch the show. Also, the player allows a stripper to do a lap dance for him.

Oh noes there are breasts, nipples and sex in AoC!

Was that a prejudice comment towards young people who play MMOs in general or just to the spamming 10 year old idiots who play WoW? I'm 13 and look forward to playing AoC or WAR (I like orcish roleplaying so I'll most likely be playing WAR).

AoC is rated M, meaning you are too young to play it.

Nothing prejudice about it I assume. He probably just doesnt like playing with a bunch of prepubecent kids. I play WOW myself but am In an adult guild. And no matter how mature you act, you are still a kid. And most adults dont like hangin with the kids.......unless your Michael jackson if you catch my drift.

Of course his wishful thinking that somehow kids wont be playing AOC .... is just that, wishful thinking.

Yeah..... Like has been said before, there is no rating in the world that will keep teens from any game. There are a whole lot of M rated PS2/XBox games out there that herds of teens play. Conan will be no different.
