My only concern is for the poor girls in game that must face the wraith of an end game guild getting that last buff in before the start of a raid. 24 men, 1 tavern?
Besides, it isnt like the Devs actually dont want teens to play.
You dont advertise your game as having blood splatter, head removal, naked girls and sex and not expect lots of teen age boys to play it. The best way to get the teen interested in playing your game is to tell them that they cant.
Was that a prejudice comment towards young people who play MMOs in general or just to the spamming 10 year old idiots who play WoW? I'm 13 and look forward to playing AoC or WAR (I like orcish roleplaying so I'll most likely be playing WAR).
AoC is rated M, meaning you are too young to play it.
'M' means I can't buy it, but I can play it if my parents bought it.
Fresh off the presses at the Games Convention in Leipzig, MMORPG.com has learned from a reliable source at Funcom that characters will be able to have sex and will receive a buff for the action. That is not to say, however, that there will be explicit sex in the game. Anyone who has followed Robert E. Howard's creation knows that sex has been a prevalent theme in the Conan IP, which Funcom is doing their best to honor. Age of Conan, as has previously been announced, will carry an "M" rating. MMORPG.com will continue to follow this story as more specific information becomes available.
Outstanding! This will be a different twist to the MMO's that are currently out there at the moment.

If I wrote it, it would be "a prejudice comment towards young people who play MMOs in general "
this is ridiculous......whats next? Swimsuit Larry Online?????
It is in the lore. We have only received a tidbit of information so we don't know the whole story. You are likely jumping to conclusions or just an AoC basher or forum troll. The fact of the matter is we will likely not see anything or hear anything happen. Otherwise, I do not think they would be getting an M rating, but an Adult Only instead. With this being said how mature are we acting right now making such a big fuss over this?
I have been permanently damaged by the uber buffs during the SWG pre-CU days. Whenever I hear the word "buff", I think of 20 people standing in line waiting to be buffed by the doc sitting up front. After reading this, I now have this image of two lines in a tavern, one for men and one for women, just standing there waiting to get their sex buff from some person up front, who has already served a couple hundred customers that day. Somehow the words "sexually transmitted disease" come to mind
Meh...
To be honest, it seems kinda lame, doesn't really add anything to the game, and will only encourage the immature players (note - I didn't say kids) to do immature acts under the excuse of "but I just wanted a buff".
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Originally posted by safwd This topic brings me to a question that i have been meaning to ask. A friend of mine listens to podcasts all the time, and he said that he was listening to one with the Dev of Conan (forget the name), the Dev said that character models will not have nipples because to add nipples the game becomes "adult only". Now someone tell me this is a joke. I am not jumping up and down to play Conan because i might see a cartoon girl topless (i have cable) but to advertise that you will have topless women characters in the game and then not have nipples is just silly. If that is the case they would be better off dressing these characters in sexy clothing instead.
Odd...Ryzom has nipples but is rated T.
Ryzom characters can't be entirely naked, but the males can be topless and have nipples (does that count?), and the Zora

This 'feature' is a very risky move either way disipte the age issue if not done 'correctly' there may be a lot of complaints (think Sims 1/2 'issues') I mean it's one think to have a singleplayer character from a story at it (eg GoW) however when the character in question is 'you' and with massive amout of players involed it's a very fine line between succusful and a complete disaster..
So there's going to be a little nudity and some off-screen prostitution..big deal, really. Warfare and genocide is rampant throughout gaming, yet nobody bats an eye lid.
..so uhm..anyone have like, uhm, previews of the animations? *nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more!*

I do forsee some issues this might bring up. Will two male characters be able to have sex? Two females? Group sex? Rape? Guys playing female characters and vice versa? This list goes on and on.
I opens up a huge can of worms. Sex is a touchy subject to a lot of people and what is perfectly okay to one person is completely taboo to the next person. Some people will just do it for the buff and not even consider that he or she technically just had sex in the game. while other people will take it a lot more personal. What happens when the two groups collide?
All that for a mere buff.
I congratulate Funcom for having the balls (no pun intended) to go ahead and do a little bit of pioneering on such a controversial subject, but I fear that in the end, it'll cause more trouble than it's worth and add nothing to the enjoyment of the game.

YEEEEEEES!
This will for sure boot the annoying kids from this game.
Yep! We know there will be NPC you can pay for love. They have already said it was a dark and gritty world. Just as it is in Hyboria...and in the real world.
Just as it is in the real world? So you'll get an AIDS debuff if you get unlucky and pick the wrong prostitute?

Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
Most classes will have the ability to "self buff".
It will take several attempts to buff females with a chance to fail completely.
Only the most battle "worn" will be able to 'Group buff.
