Delayed, delayed, delayed ... this is all we ever hear in year 2007
And now AOC was delayed to share launch date with WAR ( so smart Funcom , so smart... )
Dont you ( and I am talking to devs ) realise there is a whole bunch of people that are so thirsty and sick of waiting for new MMO that they will buy and play anything right now ?
If you release now you can get 1.People waiting for POTBS , 2.People waiting for AOC , 3.People waiting for WAR , 4.And others...
And having whole 6 months ! Before AOC and WAR launch you even have a great chance of retaining many of them. And if not you still sold 4 times as much copies of game , and cashed 4 times more subs for 6 months.
- But let say you for some weird and selfdestructive reason decide to delay the game to 2008 
You will face completely different picture. AOC and WAR release will be imminent and people that didnt allready given up on POTBS (in development since 2002) will anyway not be willing to invest in playing MMO they know will switch in one or two months...
Because Lets be completely honest - POTBS sounds like an awsome game , but i doubt it will ever steal subs from Mythic or Funcom.
So Rick and the crew , please oh please - do announce the release date allready !

Well it looks like it'll be before Christmass but maybe just after, either way I'm ok with them taking time to polish it and get their crap together. I'm not willing to pay to beta some steaming pile that the DEVs are trying to cobble together for the first year, I'd rather wait until they're comfortable with it so I guess it'll be released when it's ready probably in the next 6 months, maybe a bit afterwards.
I don't think they'll lose any subs due to a pushed back release date, on the contrary many titles lose subs due to not pushing back release dates and waiting untiul it's in a fit state to sell to the consumer. No-one wants to see Vanguard part 2, do they?

Another VG release is mainly the reason for all the delays, that is true. But rumour around the block is that POTBS is polished and ready to sail.
There is another approach towards VG problem. The one taken by LOTRO.
They released in time , with less content.
And LOTRO benefited greatly from releasing in dry MMO season. I think at least 20% from their subs came from that fact.
It is really hard to understand POTBS is not taking this extremely lucky opportunity (again rumours say POTBS is in very launch ready state)
As for playing POTBS when ever it comes out. I am not sure.
I belong to part of gaming populace that finds this game interesting , but certanly not more than AOC or WAR. And I will surelly not play two MMOs at same time...
So christmas, or even after christmas launch....

No one likes a game being postphoned and delayed more then its own developers and owners. Why? Because delays cost money! The delays cost valuable competition time! Because the players get restless! But! But the game have been under developement for some time now. Both Conan and Pirates, and I am sure we can wait a ew more months after all these years, to ensure the product becomes just as good as promised!
There is nothing worse for a online game to launch a half arsed and incomplete game!

I doubt it will be much difference if you play an european or us server as netcode improved lots and I hope potbs is not too twitchbased.
Naturally, if your WoW, normal rules are suspended, but we aren't. As I said in the other thread, we need to finish nailing down some details with Sony before we announce anything. Hopefully that can happen after Leipzig, but I'm not going to promise anything as I'll probably be wrong.

For me as an EU player it would be fine with me to have a ger-dedicated server. I would just download the engl version and play it, while the localized version would be patched and in shops weeks later.
Mmmh or, not even a ger-server. I ´d just move to the international servers and torment you with my cruel english.

To be honest, "The Smed" didn´t harm me.
I don´t work MMOs, I play them.
Hopefully they will only announce it when they are completely sure it is polished and ready. Otherwise, what is the point of playing a bugged, incomplete game. Remeber Vanguard? I don't think POTBS and other MMOs coming out are willing to make that same mistake. At least I hope not.
With AoC being delayed it will give them time, I hope they manage to pull off a release before the end of this year. I know a lot of people myself included that probably won't take a second look at this game if WAR or AoC live up to their hype.

Are you kidding? VG is the MMO equivalent of 9/11, everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when the bomb hit. I reckon that going into FLS offices and saying "Vanguard" is a bit like going into a theatre where the actors are practising their lines and saying "Macbeth". Just saying the word "Vanguard" around a number of people that are involved with MMORPGs in any capacity from the gamer to the CEO of a studio will bring deadly and uncomfortable silence and get you many strange looks.
It does seem they're getting their crap together so that they can have a harmonious release on both sides of the pond, and release something that's worth buying. Also since all the magazines and MMO sites have nothing else to review they'll be put under the microscope by everyone, one wrong move and they're toast with the spectre of VG and SOE rising to consume their flesh!

As from what i pieced together - Potbs is well ready to be released ( so vanguard doom scenario is not even a remote option )
Only obstacle for release right now is EU localisation/sale deal with SOE
did they not stop their deals with SOE? thats what I read somewhere...
SOE is evil, perhaps Smed is using his dark powers to try and get PotBS to bomb? However the people at FLS aren't as easily manipulated as the weak minded Mcquaid, stay on your guard people Smed has spies everywhere .........

I've always felt that it is much better to push it back if you need more time to make a better game. But I don't like hearing that it's been ready to go. I've waited for this game for a while as it seems like the best Pirate themed game out there.
I'll play this one as soon as it is released, and keep playing until Stargate Worlds comes out. Between these two, I think they're the best ones coming out (IMHO of course!).

As for will PotBS be what i want it to be ? I doubt it ... i learned to have very low expectations when it commes to MMOs

After seeing bout a zillion remarks about SOE and Smedley on these forums my sense of humor has gone to zero on that part....

Nope. Sony hasn't screwed us up at all. Game isn't ready to ship. All the major features and systems are in, and it's quite stable (though not perfectly so). But it's not *done*. There are still bugs in the missions, stuff needs polishing, avatar combat isn't where we'd like it to be. All this is true irregardless of Sony. Sony, if anything, is pushing us to *not* ship the game until we are sure it's ready. They have no interest in another Vanguard (and neither do we). Getting all the distribution lined up before we announce a date may make the date later than we'd like, but believe me, it's not like we're sitting here at the office sipping martinis waiting for Sony to get things together!

I think.. THINK.. that it is coming out this Fall ( November 10th-20th) But thats just roughly estimateing cause all i saw was Fall.
I am not Perfectly sure so don't go crazy. All I'm sure about right now is its coming out this fall.. But i would still like the exact date.

I think alot of problems would be solved and frustrated feelings would be subdued if we knew what "soon" and "real soon" mean when FLS is asked about a release date. I hear real soon, I am thinking next few weeks, where FLS is thinking months. I know "This Fall" is the official statement, but comeon, can someone from FLS tell us what "soon" means?
