Most sought after class?

tinhattinhat Member Posts: 12

Ok, to cut a long story short, ive broken my foot and intend to start playing WoW again to pass the time while i wait for WAR. I was just wondering (besides the 'is this a good idea') what is the most sought after class?

I used to play pre TBC and had two 60 chars, one on a PvE server which i quickly abandoned as back then guilds were a nightmare to get into (- has much changed?) so end game content was not happening.

The second was on a PvP server as i figured if i couldnt PvE id have some fun by 'ganking noobs'. Anyway, this char is a rogue.

If i do restart i'd be playing PvP, I've been reading the forums and ive come to the conclusion that rogues are pretty much obsolete these days, am i wrong?

Although i hate to think it im pretty sure ill have to chose a different class and re-level. If someone wouldnt mind, please could you suggest a class that is both sought after in end game raiding, fun to play and is 'ok/good' in PvP? I know it's a lot to ask, so far all ive got from the forums is this:

Warlocks: Overpowered in every way and very sought after - i just dont want to play one.

Mages/Rogues: Obsolete.

I'd recommend either a priest or a druid.A protection specced warrior is probably the most wanted class in PVE, but PVP is not an option. A priest and druid are both wanted in groups and can handle themself pretty well in pvp.

Tanks are the most desired class. With the PVP rewards very desirable, most potential tanks are PVP spec thus the tanking population is very low.

Healers would come in second. #1 healer choice is Pally for both PVE/PVP. You DO NOT roll a Pally if you do not want to Heal, no one will take you for anything beside to spam Flash of Light

    #2 Healer = Shamman

    #3 Healer = Priest

the op was thinking about pvp first..... so let's talk about what class is good at pvp

note that I quit wow long before BC came out, but I am still pretty decent in pvp

first, if you want to focus on pvp, paladin probably will not be a good choice unless you are very good at understanding how paladin works. I used to play a paladin for pvp pre bc and it works fine. Yet you will have to spend a lot more effort on gathering the gears for your paladin than playing a true damage class like warlock/warrior/hunter etc. at the end if you want to play a paladin to pvp you must know when to stop attacking and heal your team. a lot of the stuffs you did as a  paladin in pvp will not show on your report cards, so if you like to count how many ppl you kill in a bg, or having people praise you "o you are  my hero" , paladin will be difficult to do that. Not that it's impossible, but you will need to sp end alot of time to gather the gears.

at the moment I would recommend playing a warlock or hunter if you just want to see your target die before you. Not that they are easy  mode, but with the same efforts these  2 classes will be better than other classes in terms of killing.

shadow priest has nice damage in pvp, but gathering gears for a shadow priest can be tricky as people don't usually like them in pve... not to mention they ran out of mana fast

druid is almost as gear dependent as paladins

anyway, it's more important to choose the class you are comfortable with.

I dont know how wow has change after BC tho~ but I am pretty sure most people still think paladin is a flash of l ight bot.....

    actually its

    1. priest

    2.Pally

    3. shaman                                     however if u wanna pvp then roll a pally,  or if you are brave a shadow priest (vampiric embrace helps healing if you are good at DPS)

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

    Raid much ??

    Paladin

    Shaman

    Resto Druid

    Holy priest.

Priests are good for 5 mans  can get tricky in heroics because your so squishy.

Shadow priests are the desired spec for endgame content due to theri raid utility, they also bring the same utility to a 5 man.

Dps and Healing try a shaman or a druid, you'll be welcome in groups as both  ( druid tank dps or heal)

I do echo the sentiments of tanks being needed, while we have a lot of warriors on my server not many are protection specced, if your dependable and dedicated you can easily climb the raiding ladder, if your more casual youll still not have a problem with heroics or 5 mans, and you can respec and do some QQ DPS.

just my 2 cents  and welcome back.

70 priest 70 warlock 70 druid 70 mage 70 paladin.   The class i like the best my priest, the least my paladin ( very boring)

Most desired generally in arena pvp:

Holy Paladin > MS Warrior > ele shaman = disc priest = resto shaman >Warlock (more so for 2v2 and 3v3) > Mage

    Most desired for 5mans:

Prot Warrior = feral druid > Holy Priest  = shadow priest > mage > holy paladin

    Most desired for raiding:

Holy Paladin = prot warrior > resto shaman = resto druid > shadow priest > feral druid > holy priest > dps classes

As much as I love more priest, resto druids and resto shaman offer much more to raids in the way of multiple buffs and totems, stacking dots and chain healing. Outside of friends or amazing players, there is no reason to bring more then one holy priest to a raid.

Mages/Rogues obsolete?? Mages are far from obsolete although it's hard to cross them from pve to pvp and still retain suitable spec for both. Fire sucks pvp and rules pve - frost sucks pve but, rocks pvp.

Rogues rock pvp and only rock pve if you are that special soul that can play em correctly (raid-wise).

I wouldn't start a priest - they are a pain to level and aren't what they used to be (blizzard I'm very ill at you for this).

As you said - Warlock - solid choice for both.

Druid is another great choice - if you haven't played one - it would be awefully fun to level.

Hunter - don't know about sought after but, they sure are fun to play.

That's all I have to say about that

I'd recommend mage for popularity in 5-mans. Not my favourite class to play, but consider:

The first thing everyone looks for in a group is a tank. Three different classes can fulfill this role.

Then they look for a healer. Four different classes can fulfill this role.

Then they look for a mage. The party needs DPS. The healer's cheap and wants free water. And mage CC is great. Only one class can fulfill this role.

Hence mages have no problems at all finding groups. They are also fine in PvP, particularly if they are frost specced.

    ---

If you want the most popular for raiding, I'd suggest resto druid. As previous posters have noted, palas are often the first choice for healing the main tank, and shamen for healing the raid. However if a raid already has one of each, resto druids are next on the list because their HoTs complement other classes well. And resto druids are so hard to find. Under-played spec of the least played class.

Disagree about the palas. At the level I'm playing at (end game 5-mans, Kara) paladin tanks are great. They simply generate far more aggro than other tanking classes, and as DPS with salvation on I can open up as much as I like, and even AoE without problems, whereas with a warrior or druid tank I need to constantly watch the threat meter.

I understand that paladins aren't going to cut it as the main tank for 25-man raids, since their defences and hp won't be quite as high as the other tanking classes, but they can still go an awful long way.

Ah the million dollar question What class to pick. First of i like to say i have a 60mage 62paly 70warrior 70druid. when choosing a class to play you need to ask youself this. Do i want to pvp or do i want to pve. then ask youe self if i want to pve am i going to want to raid or not. If u want to PvP then your best class choices would be Hunter - Warlock - Mage. If u want to Solo PvE without lots of raiding go Hunter - Warlock - Rogue. But if u realy want to Raid the end game and want to get in a good guild your best choice would be Warrior - Druid - Priest. But! I would say try each class and pick the one you like the most. They are all differnt in there own way some are harder to play then others. some of the classes will cost more gold then the others due to finding the best gear. Plus some classes are harder to gear out then others.

Now as the OP said he has 2 60s already. ask your self do i want to level up another class or not. It will be harder now that BC is here. As i just finished my druid. It was hard. there was no one to run any of the dungeons or some of the harder quests. so had to skip alot of gear and content.

Wow, thanks for a load of good replies. It's so damn complicated trying to chose a char i may just not play at all ...

Anyway, the next question from a level 60 noob: Are PvP realms really PvP anymore?

when i was leveling my rogue ganking and getting ganked was great fun. does that even happen now? again, from what ive been reading, everyone sticks to the BGs now and world PvP is next to dead.

If by "world PvP" you mean ganking then yes - there's still plenty of it about on all PvP realms.

If you mean serious and organised raids on opposition towns and capitals then it will vary a lot by server.
