K2 Network has announced that they are changing Sword of the New World to a free to play buisness model.
IRVINE, Calif. - (August 22, 2007) - K2 Network, Inc. (www.k2network.net), an online game publisher, announced today that it has expanded its Free2Play model for the epic Age of Exploration MMORPG Sword of the New World: Granado Espada. The game is available for download in North America and Europe at www.swordofthenewworld.com. Sword of the New World initially launched as Free2play up to level 20, after which players purchased a monthly subscription to level characters beyond 20. All of that has changed, with no limitations on content, levels or areas to explore. For those players still seeking the premium experience, K2 has kept the Cash Merchant, which offers rare and sought after items to be purchased in-game.
"K2 Network's Free2play model is the heart of our business," said Joshua Hong, CEO and Founder of K2 Network. "We launched Sword of the New World as a Free2Play title - free to download, free to try, and free to play up to level 20. We are extremely excited about this title, especially with such gorgeous graphics and the ability to play up to three characters at once, but Free2Play up to level 20 just isn't enough! At K2 Network, we put Gamers First, and thanks to the community supporting this game, we are now able to offer the same Free2Play model as all of our other titles. It's Free2play all the way!"
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada's expanded Free2Play offer does not adversely affect paying subscribers in any way. Current subscribers who have an un-used paid month will receive 1,000 Cash Shop Gold in addition to all three web unique player characters: Adelina Esperanza, Lisa Lynway, and M'boma (a total value of 40 dollars US).

Do I still have to purchase the game for $20 or is it totally free now? If it's totally free, I might dl it and give it a try. ^^
Save your $20 for charity. This game is very pretty but vapid in content and play style. Your money is better spent elsewhere! You have been warned....

and no, you don't have to buy the box.
It is not B2P but F2P, as in it nows follows the cash shop model; they abandoned the $20 requirement.

Actually, that's exactly the problem wth SotNW: This game is not in the least bit different. The only elements I experienced while playing which were not derivative were the impressive graphics and the mildly interesting storyline (when it managed to crawl out from under the lumbering back and slash gameplay). Other than that everything in this game is very, very old unfortunately. I started playing because I ws hoping for a new and interesting game....but no such luck.
Still, to be honest (and not snippy) $20 for a F2P game like this isn't bad, I just doubt anyone will get more than a few weeks' enjoyment out of it before crushing boredom from vapid level grinding sets in.

It is not $20 anymore; you can download the full client for free, or use the previous one that had been meant as a trial.

Give me one mmorpg, just one that lets you:1: Control up to 3 characters
2: Recruit NPC as playable characters
3: Is of the same speed as the combat in this game
4: Shares a similar stance system.
Seriously, did anyone *NOT* saw this coming ?
I mean, wtf. The game doesn't have what it takes to be P2P.
Sure MMC is awesome, but that's no reason to pay.
Archlord just went F2P now...surprised ?I hope not, because it was pretty obvious. =p
I just feel sad for the devs that actually care and are trying to make a nice product, but eh, let's hope people play their games if they are free.

Horrid controls.
Will not re-dl this.

The game is just a point and click grind with a tad of RTS gameplay. Now I agree this game has some great features, but in the end it just does not make it fun. I would never say this is a bad game, it just does not appeal to me (or most people.)
This game is definately not p2p quality. I was actually very suprised to see it for sell at best buy a few weeks ago (maybe it was just a pre-order box, i dont know). Either way, the game play is not very inspiring and it will mostly go on auto. Maybe it will be more successful under this model.

Well I was going to dl this but after I found out it was going to take almost 8 hours, I said crap on this. I have more important things I could be doing. And I thought it was bad when it took an hour to install Final Fantasy XI.
