Class Balance

dorobudorobu Member Posts: 80

After having come back to this game, I have to wonder.  Is there ANY class balancing going on at all? I brought 3 friends to the game with me who had not played before and we hopped on classic servers trying on the different realms.  After having leveled up toons to Molvik on all sides it seems to me that everyone plays mids because they are crazy over powered.  Does this ever change?  Do they balance and mid is just on the upswing or is targeting people as a bone dancer and siccing pets considered skillful? We quit playing our mids which we preferred to play because it was just too easy.  Now on our hibs it's just pounding after pounding.  Does it get better?  I was telling them how fun this game was back when I played when it came out and it just seems like a joke now.

You can't judge class balance based on non level 50 characters.  Certain level ranges have different effects.  I can't say for certain, but my guess is that population is also an issue.  Hibs, because of Alb/Mid whines, got Hib nerfed in two back to back patches.  This weakened those classes and also made people go to other realms - many of those mids.

You are the first person to say that Mids are OP for a long time.   Each patch they do changes to classes and have for the past 12-18 months.  This will continue.  I say pick whatever side you want to play and then get to 50 and see how things are then.  If Mid is dominant right now it is most likely because Alb is not attacking you and Hib has the lowest population currently.  Those will change.

Sounds like some BDs got the better of you. Keep in mind the game is balanced for group play. I have a BD and I've played both BA and Sup specs. I find that if a charge tank gets to me before i can get a root off I die even with the heals from pets and LT. If he purges then I am dead with no chance of surviving unless I run. The game is designed for group play. If you and your friends are not classes that work well in a group then you will die to certain people.

Remember this is Mythic.Class balance and balance testing is a concept they still do  do not grasp. Wait long enough and they will find a rationale to change a given class .Scouts waited 4 years for some enhancements...they got them..finally ....and then had them nerfed  away two months later.

Well you should remember from playing before that balance is done for the classes at level 50 and also based on group dynamics.  They do not balance each class 1vs1.  Mythic has always been a strong believer in the "Rock, paper, scissors" for of balancing and they do a good job of it imo.

Sure it isn't like Blizzard's attempts to balance all the classes (which really just nerfs them into oblivion) but with dozens of classes it is a tad more difficult to get unique classes and then try to balance them all for 1vs1.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

I have to disagree with the nerfing of archers. Didn't Mythic only do the thing that you can't crit + crit someone? and that dmg is reduced a little bit but you don't miss so often

Amazing how quickly things change... about a year ago Hibs were overpowered and everyone was playing them....then slowly people started to drift away..before you know it Albs were really popular back around the 1st of the year.... and Mids were lost in the shuffle...

Now you are saying Mids are coming back up on top...that's been a long time in coming....

This is what DAoC is like now that RvR is so unbalanced in relation to POPULATION.

In all the battlegrounds except one or two, including NF, Albion is under pop and Hib or Mid is over populated.

Fights consist of 5 fullgroups (midgard or hibernia) vs 3 fullgroups (hibernia or midgard) vs 1 fullgroup (albion)

The only exception is one BG where Albion has 5 fullgroups, while mid/hib have 3 or 1.

Instead of a fair fight, it's never a fair fight. It's always stacked on one side or another. In NF, the zerges are HIb vs Mid, with Albion being pathetically underpopulated. So as an Albion, you roam around in an 8man, killing Soloers and small groups of 3. So it's 8v1 and 8v3.

The game isn't balanced with populations and sides. There is a 1% chance you get a fair, and thus fun, fight.

You roam around for a very long (and boring) time to even find an enemy. Once you find an enemy, you fight battles you cannot possibly lose, until you fight a battle your cannot possibly win and die. Then you start all over, repeating this process.

This makes DAoC have the worst RvR/PvP in any MMO ever made. Not because it is the worst in dynamic and gameplay. In those regards, it is the BEST in RvR/PvP. In its prime, with populations high, populations balanced, and everyone was around the same RealmRank, the game was amazing. The game is the worst because of population unbalances and unfair fights. When they outnumber you x3, you do not have a choice but to lose. It is nearly impossible to win such a fight. For you to win, you have to be skilled, they have to suck, and you have to get lucky.

Now you have overpopulated and underpopulated armies that have practically no chance of having a fair fight. Fair fights (and thus fun fights) are 1 in a thousand.
