I know I will definitely be coming back to this. It was my first and in my opinion the best MMORPG I've played, alongside SWG pre-CU. Right now, I see nothing worth playing, so I will be sticking to my Xbox 360 until this comes along.
I'm aware that there are some people still playing but AFAIK they were averaging about 25 logged in when they took down the online pilots counter on JOSSH. Of course that was before they merged the US and EU servers. I meant no disrespect to those with the grit to hang in there.
Otherwise, I'm probably the only one with this concern, but I have to admit this talk of becoming "more accessible" sends a shiver down my spine. I'm by no means an elitist or even what most would call "hard core" but that's the sort of talk that usually doesn't end too well imo.
Granted JG was never a real big game I don't remember too many 300 player nights. But it got by fine on 200-250. I remember sitting outside the station in Quant Core (in 2001-02 mind you) watching in awe as what seemed like dozens of -MACK- tows pulled in to dock like ducks landing on a pond, while it was all I could do to keep from leaving one of my poor gust's engines dangling from the tube. It's still one of those games that I find myself talking to friends about in a "those were the days" kind of way. Anyone remember Rollio and Morgan? TS was a blast when those guys were on the prowl. My server sounded like the aircraft carrier from Top Gun until one of my squaddies managed to down Morgan's ranger (which were uber at the time) in a head-on at which time it exploded with cheers and falling headsets as people danced around their computer rooms. Always felt like I was a tourist as i wasn't one of the elite guys. But I can think of worse things to be. I've been chasing that type of experience ever since. See now I'm getting all nostalgic.
I for one am an old vet of this game, havnt played in a long time though. I used to have a lot of entertaining times making morning stars & selling them to both sides in a big battle. or getting to agreesive while mining & crashing on the roid. and who can forget the times when they forgot about Emma, on the way to hyperial
I loved the old JG days and I really miss all of that.
I always dreamed about a new and improved Jumpgate over the years. I recently tried Vendetta Online but it was not quite the same. It wa missing a lot of the Jumpgate feel and the flight mechanics were dumbed down quite a bit. Close but no cigar.
Not played for years (I still remember planetjumpgate.net, and I helped make he first english speaking clan in the EU beta :P), but might come back to check this out.

Oh wow I forgot about that rock:) It was an end to an era when they moved it lol. Brings back memories
Wasn't Emma an asteroid that was exactly in the path to Hyperial and that was in sort of a dark spot so you couldn't see it until it was too late? My memories of JG are a little fuzzy after all these years.

There seems to be a moderate amount of hopeful enthusiasm from those vets that I still know are about. I, myself, will most definately be returning. While I'm not too fond of the new PvE aspect I must admit I'd love to see the server(s) bursting at the seams. Hopefully more information will be coming along soon.
I am going to be there ... once again. Played JGC (although I knew it as Jumpgate: The Reconstruction Inititive) avidly. I remember the days of hunting down Rollio, chasing him across sector after sector, and getting my behind whipped when he turned on me! (Well most of the time, I got him a few times though ) I remember pulling escort for MACK on some of the most awesome cargo trains ever seen. I was a Beta Tester, Clan Leader, and general soldier type ... and I hope to be one again!!! I am SO looking forward to this as I am sure all the old fans of yester-year are. Time to get my old skills back up to par, speed docking, jousting, dive bombing, circle fighting, scraping off inbound missiles, and the precision required in docking a cargo freighter with a full bay of radioactives!
If you haven't played JGC, or are a relatively new gamer ... then you missed out ... but DON'T miss out again!!! This isn't a dumbed-down RPG folks ... this is piloting ... REAL piloting. Warm up your mouse's (mice?) dust off that joystick, and prepare to be challenged in a flight-sim once again!
P.S.
They moved Emma? <Major Depression sets in> Why? Nothing beat comparing notes on how many times Emma reached out and "hugged" some unsuspecting or daydreaming pilot. I know I left my "mark" on her several times.
Hmmm, anyone interested in joining with me on the "Emma Restoration Inititive"?
Lol... omg, I almost forgot about Emma! Why in the hell would they move her! Small things like that made the game great... young pilot flying in glee... thinking he or she is getting to Hyperial for the first time... then $@&*$% on the comms. Tons and tons of laughter. And a bunch of old vets tellen the new guy/gal.. to not worry about it.
And some, actually going out of their way to help the new pilot out.
For Scorch: Please do JGE the way "YOU" visioned it, tune out all of the whiners and what not. You and your team created GOLD when you first released JGC. The physics, the quirks..like emma, its what provides character and makes for not a good, but a great game.
I cant remember exactly what I was hauling at the time, but I had been playing long enough to know full well what, and where Emma was... I do recall remembering at the last moment, "Oh crap, I forgot about Emma.." punching in ff after ff to alter my course... then with a sigh of relief.. sitting back in my chair...... BOOOOOOOOM! ( I had adjusted my course just far enough to hit Emma)
It was good convo, vet or unexperienced pilot.. there was always human error going on.
However, if the devs had to remove something due to player extreme frustration... it should have been Rollio (lmao). That pilot literally made people quit their Quantar character to reroll something else.
Emma was never moved, you could always go straight from gate to gate without hitting her. The problem came from not aligning correctly from the off, or from joystick drift along the way.
All that happened to Emma was a re-skin of a certain type of ateroid that ended up making it far more visible and therefore giving more time to avoid her when ploughing through space zooming miles ahead with your camera equipped
The single most important aspect of JG that sets it aside from other space games is its flight model. No game since has come close to providing that butt-clenching adrenalin ride that came with even the most mundane tasks. How many people have set their ship off on a path, only to come back from a quick wizz to find yourself in clear and present danger from fluz/pirates/roids/gates/etc ?
How many people have taken the required 2 hours to flip every beacon and claim every sector in TRI space, then screenshoted their massive achievement ?
JG may have a tiny playerbase and may not hold onto a lot of the returning vets when JGE opens for business, but noone can deny it is totally unique and effective in its design.

I think the only difference between the vets and the noobs is that sinking feeling just before impact and the lack of confusion afterward.

Yup, I'd have to agree with ya on that one.
