How can this be undeniably vaporware?

Every few months they release news for the game, some more substantial than others but still news about the game nonetheless.

They just released a mount video and before that a developer interview. The game is progressing. If you want to see real vaporware go check out Duke Nukem Forever, come back and try to tell me that this game qualifies as undeniable vaporware. I am quite confident you won't be able to.

 

I mean I did believe that this game was long gone a little while ago, but it still seems to be chuggin pretty nicely even though it has been in development for some time.

    theres alot of things missing in that video clip.... lets see

    how about a user interface?

    other players?

    enemies or npcs?

    combat?

    skills?

     

    This clip doesnt help prove its actually a semi-playable game or even near beta stage, it looks very early alpha.

    If they release gameplay footage, where the player has a UI and interacts with other players (talking,trading) and kills some enemies, then maybe there would'nt be all this vaporware discussion.

    Time in developement only matters to a point.

    DFO has been in developement for 7 years, but the first 2 years razorwax had not combined with Aventurine.  They have only been in full swing development for 5 years.

    World of DivorceCraft was in developement for 6 years, and it is quite lacking.  So if a game hits 8 years, I'd be fine with it if it is something worth playing

    Let's make it real simple.  Pick a trade show, any trade show.  When Adventurine can set up a booth that has a playable copy of the game that any schmoo can sit down at and experience some basic game play then I'll believe its not Vaporware.  (AOC, WAR and TR have all been able to do this, and for quite some time now.)

    But no game can be undeniably vaporware unless the development house has closed up shop and gone home...so there's still a chance for DF.......

    The game is in development. Not giving much information during development doesn't make it vaporware. If you cannot prove its's vaporware, you cannot use the term with certainty. That is the OP's point. Kyleran admit this, Kyleran looses

    Yup that video shows nothing. Can't even call that an interface. Funny how text does not move, skills never look like they are clicked, and none of the meters move (health, mana, stam?). No damage is shown, nothing actually dies, nothing but a basic swing and one spell fx is actually shown. Thanks for putting that to bed. For a second I was concerned that DF has shown no mechanics... oh wait... never mind.

    You have shown how horrible your observational skills are.

    1. Its an interface with skill hotbar. Chat box. Minimap. Health/mana/stamina stats.

    2. Are you serious? Watch it closely. The text moves and he even stops and types something.

    3. Look in the upper-left hand corner. A quick-skill bar.

    4. As have been stated the guy had god mode on.

    5. actually there were 3 spell fx's. I'm guessing you missed the two in the beginning but that doesnt surprise me from that post.

    D&L is in its own category of suck and I doubt anything will ever reach it again. That game was vaporware but got released anyway via bait and switch. As far as DFO goes I hope that it gets released and that it is close to what they promise. The key points that they will need to get by release will be good networking and  the beginning to midrange skill lines, if it has those along with the vids that show it can produce decent enough graphics itll be fine,

    Fun Factor is what makes or breaks a game, if its not fun just play something else.

    every game is vaporware technically until they at least maybe hit open beta. I've worked on some projects that got funding cut like last minute. Think even once way after our publisher made the public announcement and got our fans really hyped- for nothing

    there was this one game I poored my soul into. Moved halfway across the country. only for the freakin project to go to hell

     

    everything is vaporware. no matter where you work. Big publisher or small. Its a nasty business.

     

    never get your hopes up for anything. I love the ideas behind DF so at the very least I will always benefit from interacting on their forums til the day they shut it down. I hope that day never happens. I dont care if its year 2010 keep those forums up until somthing akin to it releases worse case scenario.

    meh I dont think they would release it in a seriously buggy state but ya we never know unless we get to play it.

    o realyl everything they promised is in so wtf your talking about? last dev thing game is basicly feature complete y would he lie?
