Anyways, dont think you can just walk into a store and return a $500-$600 piece of electronic hardware, espically after its been opened and used. And if its outside the return policy, usually 7, 10, or 30 days, then youre fucked, that simple. You are better off keeping it, and waiting for a game you deem worthy (which will probably never happen).
It all comes back to the initial action and thought, did you buy it because you wanted it, or did you buy it to be cool? Spending $500-$600 on something trival is not a "forget and forgive" opportunity, you didnt buy a Pepsi but ment to get a Coke, this isnt $1.00 you are trying to get back for nothing, its $500.

Again, Target has a 90 return window, on which I have 30 days remaining... Yes I read the policy before I purchased it, and yes even opened I can return it as long as I have my receipt.

I bought it because I thought I'd like it... and I don't... so I'm returning it.

Regardless, Id read over it again real good just to be sure. Consoles, console games, DVD movies, and PC games all fall under a different policy, and being that you have opened it and used it, youre in a whole different league now.

Consoles do not.  Unless you are an engineering genius the chance of you copying you console and returning it are pretty much nil.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

As for who's going to win the HD war, it's heavily in bluray's favour right now. Sony Pictures obviously will only be putting out blurays. Disney has just sided with them and will only be putting their collection onto bluray. I was in bestbuy today and they now have an HD section for their dvds. There's 1 stand for the HD dvds, and 2 stands for the Bluray dvds. Make of that what you will.
As far as the graphics, at this point I'd say at the very least they are as good as (if not better than) 360 graphics. In addition the ps3 game graphics will be able to improve far beyond 360 in the future, as can be seen in this quote from Valve, talking about bringing HL2 to consoles: "For the 360 version of the game, we can probably say we are using around 93-94% of the console's power given our current optimization. With the PS3, we can't exactly say what power cap we reached, since no developer really knows where the boundary is for the PS3".
Regarding PS3 titles, Heavenly Sword is absolutely awesome. It's gotten great praise from reviewers and if you've played the demo you know it's seriously kickass. Warhawk has been getting great praise as well. I just picked up the box version today (for 30 bucks cheaper than it's supposed to be!! thanks BestBuy error!) and I'm really looking forward to playing it.
Programmers may be having a tough time with the system simply because it's newer technology, a different architecture. It's easier to make a game on the 360 simply because it's the old way of doing things.
As far as number of installed users, the ps3 is definately starting to pick up steam. They are starting behind for sure, but in July the PS3 almost sold as many units as the 360 (a difference of about 5%). Not only that, but the PSP and the PS2 (that's last generation's hardware) both each outsold the 360 seperately. In addition, in Canada the ps3 actually outsold the 360. Considering the backwards compatibility, and the fact that an estimated 42% of all video game playing is on ps2s, you have alot of installed users that have a better reason to move to the ps3 than the 360 when they come across to the next gen systems. Sony is here to stay for quite some time.
As far as comparing the ps3 to the wii, they really are two completely different systems targetting completely different players for the most part.

I appreciate your response, and the fact of the matter is that I believe in the technology, I know that Bluray is superior to the other formats just because of space... Space is a large factor when it comes to game design, that's where the 360's limitation are for the most part I think... I want the PS3 to succeed, and I wish it was successful at this point and time.

As far as graphics are concerned currently I'd have to give the edge to the 360, and this all could be because of programming not the systems. But from the multi platform demos that are available, I've downloaded them for both systems just for comparison, and currently in my eyes as just one example "The Darkness", looks better on the 360.

I'm running both systems on a 34" 1080i CRT screen. At this point it could be that the 360's GPU has a slight advantage over the Nvidia card that's in the PS3... I'm really not sure, I can only base this off of what I see.

As for the current game line-up and future ones for the system... I don't like Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, or Folklore... HS looks decent, but isn't too fun, and the other two look like crap to me, all though I haven't played Warhawk, I've only seen fotage of that... But Folklore played and looked like turd to me...

The exclusive games that could be great on the system for my tastes are:

    GT5

    White Knight

Metal Gear... which I'm not a fan of this series, but this one looks decent.

Final Fantasy... If it remains exclusive, and who know's when it'll be out.

    Little Big Planet

    UT

That's a total of 6 games, none of which are out yet, only one of which MIGHT be coming out this year. It's just not enough in my book I guess.

I am just wondering why you didn't think about this before you bought your ps3.  I bought mine because there are lots of games coming out I want to play like DW:Gundam, Turok, GTA4, Golden Axe, given these are all on the 360 as well, but there were exclusives already out I wanted to play.  Now that the 360's shouldn't be breaking anymore I plan to buy one of them with my next paycheck, and there is already games for it I want to play as well.

If your 360 was doing it for you why run out and buy a console that doesn't have many games of your style?  Just sounds really odd to me.

    I have a ps3 and a Wii at home....

Wii is way more fun..... ps3 just does not live up to the hype that they have created....

I am on the same boat wanting to return the system as well....

You're absolutely right, I was being a compulsive shopper... My bad. But I also checked to make sure I could return it, just in case, I guess this was a way for me to try it, and see what I thought.

That may be. But for example the Seinfeld episode where Jerry returns a jacket, and when asked the reason for the return said "spite" came to mind.

Clerk - "Im sorry sir, spite is not a valid reason for returning an item."

Jerry - "Okay, then it doesn't fit properly".

Clerk - "No, you said spite. You can't change your mind now."

Anyway hehe, if the terms really say 'for any reason' then go for it. Hope you enjoy your new Xbox.

I personally suggest to not return it. the good titles are clearly still on their way. I suggest:

    Try Uncharted: Drake's fortune

try Ratched and Clank, Try Little big planet, try Folklore, try Haze, try Metal Gear solid 4, Try Killzone 2 and who knows what other games will be announcend by then. And if you still can't justify paying 600$ for the PS3, just sell it.

  • In response to the whole ethics thing, your average retailer will repackage the thing as new. They do it all the time, if the device is as good as new, it's new. Back when I worked in a Gamestop years and years ago (it was called something else back then), we did it constantly. You had to bring the game manual and case when you returned something, part of the rules. That way we just put it all together, made sure the disk wasn't damaged, and shrink wrapped it. For systems, we had a central office we'd send the box and system to. They sent it to the manufacturer and got it sealed in a new box for a very tiny fee and returned. Bam, good as new. Trust me, if you have something you can sell as new, and it costs less than a dollar to repackage it, you're going to sell it as new and not take a huge hit to sell it used.

Hell, you've probably bought a used game in a new box and not realised it at some point in your life. If it's as good as new...it's new(That was actually the line the head office told us to use as a guideline).
