hey i got the buddy key trial. the graphic looks below average from its full potential even at 1280x1024 resolution and bump mapping and everything all on.

is the trial just like this? will the full version have better graphic?

cuz i heard somewhere that final fantasy the first (no expansion)  has bad graphic and expansion come they enhance it. so the trial i got ha sno expansion... doe sthis mean i have the bad graphic?

and why does i have horizontal line across my screen when lay ff 11?

and why does it always say disconnect error when ever i exit town (the castle) ? is it bug?

even with athlon64 3200+ winchester, 1.5gig ram, x850xt maximum settings and still doesnt seems like its full potential graphic and why does i get only 30fps? even when i change settings and still get 30fps.... is it due to the game?

not sure about your other problems.

but remember, the game came out in 2002. and the graphics are from 2002, and limited to ps2 graphics.

You were misinformed when you were told the expansion packs improve the graphics of the game, they do not improve the graphics at all. The trial and the full game have the same type of graphics. Also, when you say "horizontal line" do you mean flickering/tearing across your screen? If so, it's probably because you have Vsync/triple buffering disabled in your video card driver settings. If you enable those, the lines will go away. As for your disconnection, it's most likely a problem with your own internet connection, as opposed to a problem with the game itself. Try rebooting your modem and see if that helps.

Also, for the best possible FFXI picture you should have mip mapping disabled (it lowers the texture quality of distant objects), have your background resolution set to 2048x2048 (you can do this by editing the registry data (use the search button for a thread called "graphics :/" and you'll find a thread explaining registry editing)), have texture compression uncompressed, have on-screen maps uncompressed, have bump mapping enabled, along with environmental animation set to smooth. You can also enable your hardware mouse (it doesn't improve your graphics, but it does prevent your mouse icon from lagging across the screen if your FPS starts to drop or your ping starts to rise).

I love the graphic as it is, witht he above link, you can make it smoother but not even close at what xbox 360 could give.

I ownt say much about the technical details, as my computer savvy tends to involve hitting it with a blunt object and muttering obscenities until it works right.

While the expansions (Rise o fhte Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan) do not "improve the graphics" of the overall game, you can see progression in visuals and design in the expansion areas.  The basic areas that were part and parcel of the original content have much less detailed look than those that were added later. Elshimo, which iirc only opened up with RoZ is more detailed and colorful than most of the zones from the original core release. The same can be seen with the CoP areas and ater (albeit to a lesser degree) the Aht Urghan areas.

As was mentioend before the game is from 2002, so compared to newer releases, it does show its age. However it is still a wonderful game if you can invest the time into it. There is at least oe more expansion coming up (Wings of the Goddess) howeverm after that the fate of FFXI is up in the air, as rumors are making the circuit as to Squeenix's new MMO.

I really can't say Newer games like Vanguard actually have better graphic. As i look, i could still see character render and object render in that game still contain polygon, they aren't as smooth as FFXI.

Basically if you look further, FFXI graphic is actually better overall then game like "Granados espados" The sword of new world.

However, never compare a MMORPG to a FPS, its 2 completely different story. Why? A single player game does not require transfer of data across, hence they could add as much data movement within the computer which make could mean the game could get more detail. But online game doesn't have that, since they have to watch connection of different customer, they had to make it so.

For example, if you make a billboard with 1 triangle, it only take 1 person to move it to the next area, while if you make a billboard with 100 colourful triangles, it would take 100 persons. Let's say connection is like a Truck. Allowing one triangle to carry over is easy but 100 triangles isn't as the truck can't fill all.

The graphics don't improve with the new expansions but I don't believe any one will argue the new zones in ToA and CoP are a lot more breath taking then the original zones (particualy right outside blastok, yuck).

The best thing I think Square could do would be to re-assess their beginner zone design / layout and art direction, and bring it up to speed with many of the new zones. I'm not talking about giant temples in the sky, I just the 1-10 level zones are so uncompelling that it turns many away when it should rather be the time to impress.
