Who is excited with WAR because it looks like WoW?

I am pretty happy about WAR because it actually looks like WoW. I  quited for at least 1.5 years ago after I found out I have to play the game like working after level 60. Personally I hate the end game of WoW since I don't want to give up my life, but I have to say that the world in WoW is very beautiful and nicely done and exploring the world from lvl1 - 60 is very fun. It is also very fun when the game was just release and everyone wwas actually playing and enjoying the game instead of hiding in an instance 24/7 and abandon other part of the world.

Now t hat WAR is coming out and its graphic do look like WoW, and to me it's a good thing since WoW isn't a bad game, and I would love to have a fresh start in WAR to explore the world like I once did in WoW. We all know that sooner or later inflations, high levels and calculation on every part of the game will come to WAR just like they did in other mmorpgs. But I think it would be pretty interesting in WAR at release....

That's the thing I'm least excited about.  It doesn't bother me either...  All I care about is PvP and gameplay.

Yes it does...  It's a fact that Warhammer came out first, then Warcraft copied their style.  They're not identical but they're very similar.  It's like 2 different artists with their own flavor.  Warhammer does look a lot better since it's coming out in 2008, and looks a little bit more realistic.  To say they don't look similar just doesn't make sense though.

EAMythic bases all their concept and in-game art and graphics off of WARHAMMER art and graphics.

yes yes... whatever, all I care is that the graphic style in WoW works for me. I don't really care who looks like who.....this is the real world dude, WoW did create a mmorpg with that art style before WAR and if you want to argue with that you can argue AoC copy XXX game too.....

WoW is a game it didn't create anything, Blizzard Entertainment did.

Blizzard made an MMO with Warhammer art style, EAMythic is making a Warhammer game, Of course they will look alike its just a matter of giving credit where it is due. There would be no Warcraft without Warhammer, but i can guarantee you there would be a Warhammer without a Warcraft.

not going to start a flame war but I will just point out  my  point of view last time

there is no question that Warcraft's art and background storys are inspired by Warhammer. Yet as far as Warhammer goes they created a single player game with the art they have. WoW created a mmorpg that has these art style in it. and this is the last time i will say that. Making models for a mmorpg and making ones for a single player game is totally different.

Warhammer's art inpires WoW, but WoW is the first who combine all these arts and create a massive world for thousands of players to play togehter. Will there be WAR without WoW? who know? But one thing is certain is that WoW proves the investers and players that the graphic works. If you want to play the copy game everything you see is copying other peopole. Honda copy Toyota , and my samsung monitor copy sony's which sony copy samsung's last year.

Warhammer's art did come before warcraft's, but saying WoW copy Warhammer is non sense....and yes, there will be a warhammer wihout wow, but will there be a WAR without the success of Warcraft? no one can answer

o yes, this may clear something up. WAR got cancel in June 2004 due to the expense and the  project revive in 2005 may.

does the dates look familiar? yes, 2005 is the year where WoW took over the MMORPG world.

I am not going to say this is 100% true, but it seems WAR is in production because of WoW's success.

saying there will be a WAR without WoW is just ... too ... not true?

Gameworks shop wasnt happy with how the game was turning out and they pulled the IP.  Mythic has been trying to get the Warhammer IP since they creater DAOC and they got it after GW pulled the IP from the first devolpers.

    to be more accurate

    "Development history

Warhammer Online development began under the development company Climax Online. The project was officially cancelled in June 2004 when Games Workshop determined that the roll-out costs would be too expensive.[3] However, development on the game never actually stopped as Climax Online continued the project using their own funds until the company reported in late 2004 that the Warhammer Online project was shut down due to difficulty in securing a publishing agreement.

With the license available again, Games Workshop was approached by EA Mythic (then known as Mythic Entertainment), who were interested in acquiring the license and developing a new project from scratch. A long standing relationship between several Games Workshop managers and the CEO of Mythic Mark Jacobs ensured that a deal was quickly reached. The Warhammer Online license was acquired by Mythic on May 18, 2005.[4]

Unlike the Climax Online project, Warhammer Online is not a joint venture with Games Workshop. As such, it will not use rules from either Warhammer Fantasy Battles or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay."

Game workshop thinks the cost is too expensive. Saying the game isn't turning out of what Game Workshop wants is a bit misleading.

It is not until 2005 that Mythic acquire the license. Now I  know that those arugment about "if" Mythic got the license first bah bah bah, but let's not play the IF game shall we?

Monkeys evolved from humans, because they were the first to eat bananas. Monkeys may have existed before humans, and humans eat bananas too, but humans were the first to use bananas in a milkshake. So monkeys are really copying humans by eating bananas, proving that humans came first.

I think I've got the hang of it.  Is there a name for your particular brand of illogic or do you just spew out any old random crap that jumps into your head?

Can't tell if your heads in the sand or if you're just non-intelligent. Who exactly posted that info? Unless you can link a GW or Mythic posting it is questionable at best. What is true is that a Warhammer based mmo was in the works before WoW even released. You can bet your life that GW wouldn't let a WH game go without the WH artstyle.

Now as you asked earlier, would there be a Warhammer mmo without WoW? You're damn straight there would be! It was already in the works and it is unlikely GW would drop it since mmos are the next big thing.

P.S. WAR is nothing like WoW even though the have similar artstyles. Again look at Van Gough. All his paintings use a similar art style yet none of the pictures are alike. Similar artstyles do not mean the games are even remotely similar. If you lik WoW go play WoW, we do not want you.

The fact its not that wow copied everything from other games, including the world of warhammer, the fact is the GAME, the MMO comes first... yes this is what we have! and no matter if blizzard get inspired from warhammer, or a simmilar world, dont matter how many games get inspired from d&d, the thing is clear:

    "WoW cames before WAR"

"and war looks like wow" cause wow was first, you can make a warhammer game with other graphics, like gw, more realistic, or with more blood like aoc, or perhaps, look like neverwinter or anotheer one, but, the true thing is that the Warhammer Online GAME (not the warhammer original game) looks cartony like wow.

This is nothing bad, or good, just it is, perhaps, as some people says, with the light it will change the aspect... perhaps, I dont care, think its nothing bad, I bought Nwn thinking in Baldurs Gate, cause i like it and I want an evolution of it... so its nothing bad that blizzard get inspired by warhammer. So lets me ask you one thing to all those that says wow is a copy of warhammer world:

Perhaps when blizzard created warhammer (rts) the license name was not important as now, and its not worth to sell a game called "warhammer" instead of "warcraft". But think, what will happen if they used the "warhammer name"? now we will have the "world of warhammer".And what difference will be? um? a license... a name? this changes "everything" of the game you are paying at? the important think is the product you have in your hands.

So I think people dont have to judge war for its similitudes with wow, you can like or dislike them (I found that the "toons" of wow were too much "irreal" but like the op, there are lot of people that like it... or look at the sales), but its another game that you will be able to judge when you play it, when you have it installed and after the first 3 months. Of course there is always people that will hate it and love it without no reason, "fanbois", you know... but a game is this, a game, something you paid to get entertained and have fun, nothing else, and today, they are a product, and, they bring lot of money to enterprises, so, if they want to "continue" the wow thing with another name, cause is a safe selling. Is ok.

That is the OLD climax Warhammer Online. It looks very similar to the Warhammer artstyle we have now. When I first watched it I thought it was a hoax video because the first elf looks just the newly announced elves. So what looks similar to what now? Warhammer was always planned to look the way it does no matter who was making it(Granted mythic has done a better job and making more indepth graphics). Regaurdless of what WoW did or when it did it Warhammer would have been made and have the artstyle it does.

Im quite chuffed that we get to play the real deal and not some half assed /dance for pussies,  im thrilled that WAR looks like WAR, you know Warhammer wes concieved when the only computer games were arcade lemmings and pong so.... where was WoW back then?

Yeah and what right did Blizzard have in stealing sombodys elses art / ideas? not really much of a right if you ask me... then you take Mythic / GW , what right do they have in using the Warhamer art / ideas? A HELL OF A LOT MORE THAN BLIZZARD DOES IM TELLING YOU THAT!

OK.  First.  Warcraft ART is based of Warcraft the stratagy game,  not Warhammer.  The Orc charactor looks like the Grunt ORC's from Warcraft I,  which was like 15 years ago?.

PERSONALY.   I dispise how similar Warhammer and Warcraft are.   I got very bored of Warcraft, and IF Warhammer reminds me too much of Warcraft I probably will not play it long.    I'll try it reguardless,  because sometimes its the little things that make you love a game.  I'll give it a shot.

    One things for sure...

This whole situation explains why companies are so anal about protecting intellectual property. I've seen some great fan made things get squashed by companies because they were using intellectual property. And I sympathize with that, because they weren't made to cause the company trouble, but to express how much they loved the material. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

But when you have two companies looking to earn money and one takes it, you got a whole mess on your hands.

Imagine if someone had been able to stop blizzard from producing WoW because of all the material they took from the warhammer ip? We would be in a completely different situation right now. Warcraft may have never existed at all. And we wouldn't be hearing stuff about warhammer copying WoW. But we also may have never seen any innovation either.

im graphic blind, it really doesnt matter to me. if mythic is gonna deliver what they say they are working on it will be a damn good game.

Ok, let me just say that I like the way WOW looks, so there! Seriously now, I do like WOW's look, and I like WAR's look. I don't care how different or how much the same they look, I only care about the gameplay being different enough to hold my interest.

WOW was great for two years, and now I have moved on. I want WAR for the RvR, the Tome, and the IP. If the sound and graphix were fantastic and the gameply only so-so, then good bye to another customer. Gameplay MUST come first.
