Game Stop taking pre-orders with Feb. 2nd release date, any idea if thats a good date as of now? I know it can change at any time but anyone hear if thats planned release date as of now

Any release date before open beta is moot at this point.With EA backing them they can postpone well into summer if they feel its whats best.
They can't... or Jeff Hickman will be killed.

The back end of March is probably a more realistic option. They will use as much of Q1 as possible to make the game as good as it can be.
My prediction is late spring. I'll be pleasently surprised if they make the Q1-08 date.
A date I heard floating around at PAX was Jan 27. Probably was just hearsay though O.o
I'll be at the Austin GDC this week, maybe I'll be able to find out more then.

Any estimated release dates other than Q1 2008 are rumour and speculation based on unofficial sources or best guesses, so I would not place much faith in them. I could yell out a date, too, and it would mean about the same as the Game Stop one. I mean, it may be close, it may even be right, but that does not matter until it is confirmed.
When EA Mythic has a more specific release date, or if the release date gets pushed back further, they will announce it - have faith.
The only thing I need to know is when pre-ordering will grant access to beta (assuming it will) and what sort of packages are being offered, as that is when I wil be pre-ordering. Doing it before then always seems stupid to me - why pre-order a game six months ahead of time when you have no idea what the pre-order package will be or what editions will be available? It is not as though they are going to run out of games so far in advance.
