"The strongest and most powerful Orcs grow to become Black Orcs, marked by their increased size and darker skin."
Has there ever been an official comment regarding this lore blunder or is it still a point of contention? If the latter, I can only surmise that they did it to equalize the playing field among the Orcs, but that's not really logical in the grand scheme of things, and it certainly isn't Warhammer.

I was curious about the lore, and found this if anyone else cares:
Black Orcs
Black Orcs were originally created by the Chaos Dwarves to use as slaves, but have since rebelled and found a place in regular Orc armies. They are naturally even bigger, stronger and meaner than regular orcs, and so tend towards command roles, also they do form their own units; they are also, if not smarter, more well-organised, and they are immune to the effects of animosity (Although if another orc unit attacks them, they will definitely fight back). Being the largest of Orcs, and having an air of authority, they procure large amounts of the heaviest armour from the Camp, and march to battle carrying a Variety of Choppas and heavy, two-handed blades.

well GW approved it becasue they have to approve everything that EAMythic does so it must be true, maybe in a previous edition the whole chaos dwarf creation was true but apperently now its there simply old angry men on mega steroids.
But I seem remeber reading the whole Black orcs growing into black orcs from normal orcs somplace else... searched the web and GW site for it and cant find it
Perhaps there's someone we could e-mail about this.
Considering GW has all but abandoned chaos dwarves and the devs have stated they are going the path of 40K for ork lore... don't expect this to change. Those little crazy hat grit suckers are dead and buried because the kiddies did not buy the models. Sad but true.

They are changing a lot of the lore to make it "MMO friendly"...
I enjoyed Warhammer Tabletop but was never all that knowledgable about the Lore...
Nonetheless; thats NOT a good precedent...
That issue is exactly what turned me out of D&D Online...
(the daylight-walking drow paladins; for example...)
Female dwarves... meh... bending not breaking.
Male only chosen and marauders... debatable but at most bending not breaking.
Nothing else really breaks from lore that we know of.

I don't think they've broken any lore as yet. There does seem to be an odd lack of consistency though.
They're keeping chosen & marauders as male only - seems reasonable, I can only think of two female chosen in the lore, and one of those is virtually indistinguishable from the males. I've never heard mention of any female marauders, though they're quite new and fairly nondescript, so perhaps it isn't surprising.
All that would be fine if they hadn't asked for permission to have male sorcerers for the dark elves. There is one sorcerer (Malekith) in dark elf lore, all other casters are female.
Doesn't quite fit, really.
Thanks for the replies, sirs. I suppose I'll just have to take this as an effect of Warhammer's lore evolving once again.
Lore is boring anyways. It is all about gameplay. If I desire to read I usually buy a book. As long as gameplay is great lore does not matter.
Those are just my opinions on the matter.
Every game that has deep or well documented lore is going to have conflicting issues. Some things from lore would translate into an unbalanced or boring game and these things get sacrificed in the name of better game-play. This holds true for Warhammer as well.
I Said it before, this is WAR not Warhammer. WAR is a sanitized, brightened and simplified shadow of the real Warhammer world. I am sure the kiddies will love this.
Bollocks!
This happened long before WAR. The major step to making WFB kiddie friendly started with 3rd edition rules. The lore became a lot more chipper with the release of 3rd edition rules... I think it is a bit misleading to say Mythic and WAR is ruining the lore. Just open up a 1st edition WFB book or WFR book to see what warhammer use to be.

Frankly, I see it as a good sign that Mythic is bending the lore to suite their game.
Creating a virtual world is a huge undertaking, and having your hands tied with lore details isn't a good thing when trying to develop a fun and interesting game. Devs should have the creative license to make substantial changes to the stories, characters, lore, etc, as long as it means a better game in the end.
I think that's why so many players see LOTRO as *ahem* boring. That IP is soooo cherished and adored by legions of fans, that the devs had a ton of creative restrictions put on them from the start. What we ended up with was a *meh* MMO.
Creating an MMO from an established franchise is a double edged sword.
- On one hand you have a built-in fan base
- On the other hand, that same fan base will turn on you if you color outside the lines.
Should lore be completely ignored? Certainly not. Should it be flexible enough to be translated into a great game? Hell yes.
Honestly, GW themselves can't even decide on the lore. They have tried to explain a thousand times with a thousand different reaons on why there are no female orcs, and how the orcs reproduce. Its just natural for things to change like this. Black Orcs are the biggest and baddest orcs, so its not such a stretch. Especially if GW has decided to toss out chaos dwarves. GW has changed the lore plenty of times, and will probably continue to due so due to inconsistencies.
Actually they are consistent in 40K. Orks come from spores... they are a-sexual. This has been hinted at before in WHF... GW now has made it lore. Black orks in 40K would relate to Nobz and bosses. They grow bigger and their skin starts to darken. Chaos dwarves were just an april fools joke... you can tell by their funny hats. I loved my Chaos Dwarf army!

They just weren't popular enough . Remember the Zoats and Fimir?

Heh the only way I found out about those guys was because my my uncle had a huuuge collection of WHFB stuff from the 80s, but ya I'll agree with ya, Duck billed cyclopian monsters and lizard-like centaur creatures who communicate without the use of a mouth were quite hideous.
Bollocks!
That was also back in the day when it was lead models not the pewter they use now to boost the prices. That is hardcore PvP... when you can throw a model and actually poison your opponent.
