Since EVE is arguably one of the best (if not the best) MMORPGs available I feel the $14.95 per month is not out of line at all. There may be some games that are not worth the money, but EVE is fully justified in their monthly fee, IMO.
I found EVEs monthly fee to be compareable to most other MMORPGs on the market. WoW and Linage II for example cost exactly the same as EVE if you pay for 1 month and 1$ more per month than EVE if you pay for 3, 6 or 12 month in advance.

I've gone from one MMORPG to another (sometimes running multiple different games at once) and EVE's monthly fee is right on target. That being said...I do believe any MMORPG's monthly fee should be less than $10. per month (Guild Wars is free! And does Blizzard really need to be making that much money for WoW ).
If you like the game and plan on playing it for a while then paying the fee for the longer time period (3 months, 6 months, etc.) can reduce the monthly cost.
As I've seen pointed out elsewhere...paying $14.95 a month is still a great deal compared to going to the movies, going to a ball game, etc.
Currently I'm on the 14 day trial account, but I will be gladly paying for the monthly (probably the semi-annually) fee for EVE Online. I still wouldn't mind seeing it less than $10. per month, but I feel the current fee in the scope of EVE compared to other MMORPG's is well worth it for the entertainment value!
Hmmm well it's one of the better MMO's on the market and is priced equivalently. Pluss you get expansions for free, unlike many other top-end MMO's. So... yeah... it's worth the fee.

1) The monthly is the same as any other MMO out there except for those rediculous free ones run by Koreans, so they're no more "expensive" than any other MMO.
2) Most other MMOs (excluding NCSoft games) make you pay for expansions on top of the monthly. So, every 3 months, pull a $50 bill out and kiss it because you don't have to get rid of it.
3) The entertainment value, in my personal opinion, makes the $14.95 worth every cent. NCSoft didn't make me buy expansions, but their games were so rediculously boring and monotonous that it really makes games that are just boring... look great.
4) It is your opinion. There is a free trial. You can play it and decide for yourself.
We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

The normal monthly fee seems much the same as most other MMOGs, however the larger registration fee demanded of British players seems unique to EVE Online. They explain that the British governmment requires it. But I can't find any statutes compelling online gaming companies to charge a fee to them. Indeed I can find no other MMOGs which charge you more just because you live in Britain.
I would love to play this game having enjoyed the free trial, but why should I have to pay extra when no-one else has to?

What the hell are you on about?
It's EU prices in general that are higher, and it's because of taxes imposed by the Union. Last i checked it was the same pretty much everywhere.
Look at it this way, EVE runs ONE server. Not just some paltry server that handles 3000 people. It runs one server for 30,000 people at the same time. That server is a server FARM, the largest and most advanced super computer used for computer games. They run solid state HDDS which is like RAM (meaning a chip instead of a disk being wrote on with an arm) but in the multiple giga and tera byte size range. They run multiple blade servers together. That hardware and colocation of the server is a pretty penny.
Expansions are free 100%, with what 4 expansions so far? New Tech tree's, new ships, new constellations and regions, new skills, new bloodlines. EVE costs I think 9.99 to create an account and then the monthly fee, you technically download the game for free (not really if you consider the 9.99)
Bang for your buck I'd say EVE is a GREAT buy with your money

European Union E-commerce Directive 2002/38/EC, Regulation 792/2002 stipulates that all EU residents must pay a Value Added Tax (VAT) on electronically supplied services including online games. CCP is thus obligated to add a VAT on all payment transactions for customers living within the EU.
I think he's talking about the first time you subscribe to EVE, it's actually £15 then about £9.99 each month after that. I thought everyone had to pay that though...
you pay a very minour surcharge on the first month to play, not like buying an expensive box for other games. you get free expansions, you can minimise teh cost by buying in larger blocks of time, you can buy game time cards with in game credit.

It must cost quite a lot of money for the amount of servers they have, and the amount of people playing, the bandwidth costs must be huge.
I have no idea how GW is free, can anyone explain it to me?

I live in the UK, and for me Eve is worth every penny. I enjoy it very much.

overall, i think they run a good deal.
EvE has basically the same price as most other major MMORPG's. But, for expansions., You dont have to pay for them. They are free. So EVE > All others
I think it is alot better then when it was 20$ a month that was just outragous for a game...think were u could've put the money into...gas for ex.
