After hanging onto the number 10 spot for a couple of months, SWG has finally dropped off of XFire's top 10 MMO list.
http://www.xfire.com/cms/xstatics_2007_august/While nobody knows what the actual sub numbers are, this list is about as accurate as you can get comparing SWG with other MMO's.
I guess none of the 100,000 subs use XFire
Comments
All that means is some percentage of Xfire users have really bad taste in gaming, although with it dropping perhaps there is some hope for them.
Using x-fire in mmo's serves no purpose really. In fps's its great..just click join game of your buddy and it will launch the game and take you right to the server. In mmo's..no reason. The voice chat affects gameplay, and theres no need for the text chat. Unless you keep in touch with friends playing other games via x-fire. Having said that, wasnt the x-fire number used by someone as validation that swg isnt dead/dying? So wouldnt that now mean that it is dying for sure? Those stats are meaningless either way in my opinion, however, my opinion is meaningless too.
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
I was actually wondering if another really bad game had been released recently that would have drawn the Xfire crowd away from SWG. It hadn't occurred to me that they may have developed better tastes in their preferred games. I suppose that is a another possibility, however small.
I don't think SWG has anywhere near 100K subs. They've abused the player base so much for so long that not only did people leave SWG they left all products SOE. For my part I don't buy Lucus Arts games anymore either. one or both companies have zero respect for their customers or the quality of the product they sell, I'm not sure if it's one or the other or both so I don't do either.
I can understand this but really it's the other way around for me.. I don't really buy anything from Sony any more and I will not play a game that has anything to do with SOE or LA.
Been there done that:
Asherons Call,SWG,AOC,D&D,COH,Anarchy Online,DAOC,EVE,Guild Wars,LOTRO,POTBS,WAR,WW2, and Rift
I recently ( 20 days ago ) checked out the 21 day vet trial offer and set up shop again on Wanderhome. I lasted probably 7-8 days into the trial which is 3 days longer than my last attempt. Apparently a lot of other people took up the offer as I did see a lot of people in the starter area which I didn't last time. I also usually seen a few people at every starport I zoned into granted a few means 3 to maybe 2 dozen depending on which planet and the Mos Eisley cantina had 2-3 dozen folks in it everytime I passed through.
These numbers pale compared to Theed and Coronets glory days even on the perpetually low populated Wanderhome but they are the most people I have seen in SWG during the 4 or 5 times I have checked in post CU/NGE. With that being said the last 2 days I logged on to re-pack my houses, factories, and break down my harvies and hate to say I didn't see a whole lot of folks again. I guess like me, their trial offers were expiring or just realized it was just a shell of it's former self.

First off it's the new School year and believe me every MMO starts to drop off in numbers when School starts up. Back on Ultima Online some players loved it when the new School Year started up, as we had less 'kiddies' to deal with. What's funny is this came up lastnight with a few friends of mine on other games, namely WoW, EQ2 and LoTR. And all of them have talked about how there has been a semi-drop in Players. As one of my friends that plays WoW put it "I can log in and not deal with the 15 year olds!"
Also take into the fact that all the new big name titles are coming out now. We had BioShock just come out about 3 weeks ago, and tell the truth I'm still playing it. We have Halo 3 in 19 days, and believe me anyone that is on an MMO but has an Xbox 360 is going bye bye for a week or two if not longer. Not only that you have the Call of Duty 4 Beta that from what I've heard, sucks people in. And hell I'm an RTS Gamer, I'm not going to be touching an MMO for a few weeks due to World of Conflict coming out and then Halo 3.
So it's a little of everything, new games and people going back to school.
Well...
I guess this is it. It was fun and I will miss this game. It was once great and not so bad as of late. I think after the massive rush of MMORPGs hit the market next year, we will see this gem go the way of AA. It was great while it lasted and I can only hope to see a SWG 2 one day.
I will miss you SWG!
lol did Obraik stop playing?
Might have something to do with the bugs in Xfire that were introduced with one of the early August patches. If you use Xfire ingame, once you close the Xfire window it then passes all the key combos into SWG and activates nearly every hotkey. I know a number of people that used Xfire stopped using it due to the frustrations from that. Not such an issue for me since I use the old pre-cu style hotkeys so I just hear alot of "clunk" sounds after closing the window.
SWG was still in the top 10 most hours played? I guess the silent minority uses xfire ? :S
Wondered how long it'd be before you posted on this, especially as you were advocating Xfire's stats as some sort of proof of SWG's success not so long ago.... which coincidentally was a time when Xfire was bugged in a manner that kept users supposedly logged into Xfire and the game they were playing even when they had their pc turned off. Must be nice to live in that fluffy bunny world of yours where anything can be twisted in your own favour.
The only fact that matters (until SOE release actual subscriber figures) is that you won't see anywhere near as many people in any single location now as you did in the CU or pre-cu era's. Even with one focal point for pvp, I've still been waiting for over a year for the screenie that shows 100+ people. And soon enough this argument that they're all off doing pve out in the wilderness won't stand up either, you're going to have one location for pvp and one location for pve, a quick sweep of both will give a clear indication of just how well populated the servers really are, get the kleenex ready.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
SWG has 100K subs....but 95K of them are credit farmers/sellers.
If SWG, which barely has 50K subs even if that, was in the top 10 at Xfire, all that proves is the irrelevency of Xfire.

SWG has 48K subs right now. It has lost most of the vets who came back for the trial. The CH6 sub surge (which briefly had it back in the 80K range) proved to be a short lived bubble.
What I'm hearing is that unless retention rates improve (they expect another surge with Ch7) that they will kill the game off in the planned Spring `08 purge of loser games from the station pass (Planetside, MXO will also go, SWG is on the bubble at the moment).
Hmmm....I guess t'eh Smedz' was very serious about getting away from subscription based games. I remember when you could get Planetside and MxO via Coke Reward Points (200 pts/ea), but the games are no longer available via points. Could there be a connection?
SWG will never attain a healthy population with the NGE form of SWG. Where was all the concern for subscription retention when over 200k players up and quit SWG due to the release of the NGE in November 2005? The solution has been far too obvious for far too long, but then again, $OE would step over a dollar to pick up a penny.
I love the way you guys just randomly come up with numbers and embarrass yourself.
"The C6 made the subscription numbers 78,000, which is up from the previous 2 days being 77,617"
"If the vets rejoin, the subs will go to 80,000, which is more than 49,000"
Fact is you have no idea of the subscription numbers, noone does, and all your moaning, whining, and estimating doesnt change the fact you have no idea what-so-ever.
Gives me a good laugh, keep it up please
