With crafting in ddo I was kinda hoping that they where going to try and keep with the game rules. So if a wizard wanted to make something he would spend gold, required components, and some of his own xp. What this did was force a crafter to hunt down things like displacer beasts for there hides. It would also keep over powered wizards having to relevel characters after huge xp loss making uber items. It would also take some feats to craft items so crafters may not be huge uber build spell casters.
Also if you remember back in the beta days of ddo turbine was talking about having limited number of people on each server, they said that players could interact with the world and become well known more than you could on other mmos. This would be great for crafters.
As far as housing goes… again if you go back to pen and paper every person would have a house… which I don’t see working out very well in how ddo is setup. But what I think they should do is create housing for guilds that are over a number of members for a period of time. So like if your guild had 50 members and held 50 or more members for three months you can have a guild castle someplace. But if you got below 50 members for three months it would go away. That would limit the number of housing needed. Lets face it… at least on the ghall server there are only about 10 guilds with that many players.
But why? That's the thing, with a fully instanced city and no freely explorable world, what's the point of player housing, much less guild halls?
At least in Guild Wars, where GvG matches and Alliance Battles are some of the top-end PvP, the Guild Halls make perfect sense. But in DDO, we don't even have that.
Maybe I'm missing an important point here, because if it's going to be meaningless fluff then I'd rather just leave it out and put in more adventures instead.
I couldn't get into DDO, but if someone is enjoying the game YAY for them.
I don't think games should close personally, but there are costs to keep it up and running. I used to enjoy EnB and when they shut down the servers I was somewhat pissed, as were many others. Lord knows it didn’t have a huge fan base, but there were enough of us still playing that it shouldn’t have ended. Same goes for Auto Assault, it was different and I’m sure there were enough players to keep at least 1 server running. In the end it all depends on the almighty dollar and whether or not they are making enough money off the gamers playing. Any developer that states they are making a game for the enjoyment of it is either lying through their teeth or just escaped from some state hospital for the insane.
Umm what am I saying…. Oh ya, if you don’t like a game just walk away and don’t look back. There is no need to get the pitchfork out and light the torches. Let those that enjoy it continue to play and you play whatever strikes your fancy.

Guild Housing is coming around the first of the year.
