Honestly, why isn't there a section (read:sub forum) on Hellgate:London? I realise this is going to become a ''It's not/it IS an mmorpg'' discussion, which is probably good because...well we need it? <_<
Look at some other games that have there own section tho. 2 Games that can be considered Vapourware for the western market/global market (Darkfall and SUN) have there own section, Huxley which to me seems as a lot less of an MMORPG than Hellgate:London, and the several Guild Wars series which come quite close to what HGL has to offer. Would it really hurt to make a sub forum on it?
Personally I'de just love to discuss HGL with everyone here on the forums =D
EDIT: CRAP, my apoligies, failed to notice the suggestions forum. Mods you can delete this if you want^^

Why don't you just create an "Unofficial Hellgate: London Discussion Thread"?
Hellgate London is the one PVE based title I actually look forward to (think it will have some PVP too tho). just felt like a spiritual successor to Diablo. Is there a good RPG site like this one that welcomes all *RPG*? I dont just play MMORPG I like coop/SP RPGs just as much if not more
There is no spiritual successor coming until blizzard makes one, theres a fps with demons called hell gate london, theres a WoW hack and slash called mythos, but theres no diablo 3.
what if a bunch of morons make diablo 3 and its worse than hgl?
Ok, how about until I get feedback on the suggestion (which is the exact same post as this xD) from the MMORPG people, we name this the unofficial HGL discussion thread? <_<
And yea, it's pretty much the spiritual succesor to Diablo 2, since the largest part of the Diablo 2 team is working on HGL. I don't think Blizzard has a lot of Diablo 2 devs left on there team.
I bet if they had the chance they would have named this Diablo 3 :P except ofcourse that Blizzard owns that name so no can do.
wow this post is just....... lol, Flagship STudios MADE Diablo. lay off whatewver you're smoking, drinking, or whatever. brain cells are getting destroyed
edit- sry for my impatience but its common news that many, many people left Blizzard to form other companies. Flagship Studios is a company created by former Diablo creators
The people who made diablo are the ones making hellgate:london. they are also the ones who made wow, and intended orginally for it to be a pvp title. So if anyone makes a spiritual successor to anything, it will be these guys and not blizztard.
A diablo 3 that comes from blizzard will be just like a command and conquer game from ea, all it is is the brand name, nothing more.
edit: btw to stick on topic, no it shouldnt have its own section, if it did then we should start classifying halo, cs etc as mmos.
In a sence Halo and CS are MMO's, as in Massively Multiplayer Online. There not MMO Role Playing Games however (which this board is dedicated to), and Hellgate is.
They're not massive.
I seriously doubt that Blizzard will ever make a Diablo 3. If they were planning to, they wouldn't allow Flagship Studios to make Mythos. It is way too much like Diablo to not get hit with a lawsuit. Plus without Bill Roper and his team I doubt Diablo 3 would be any good from Blizzard.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
On a side note, I'de really like it if everyone atleast looked at one Hellgate gameplay video. In it (depending how many classes it shows) it becomes quite apparent that the only FPS elements heavily present are those in the Marksman and Engineer classes (since there gun classes, 1st person view). Tho there quite suitable for 3rd person, I doubt one would play any of the afore mentioned classes for 3rd person.
The cabalist and templar factions are both pretty much 3rd person view. So yes there's an FPS element present in the game, but like some of Flagship stated before, its an action RPG with various elements in it (the most apparent one being FPS), NOT an Action RPG/FPS.
EDIT: To clarify, picture it like an MMO version of Oblivion (ONLY gameplay wise, thats where the comparison ends) with a better 3rd person view so your not FORCED into 1st person view, but its optional.
I think there is a game that needs to be added to your list. How do I submit this?
First, please make sure that the game is not already on our list. If you know the name of the game, make sure you sort our list by "Title" (click on the Title column name) and look for it alphabetically.
Second, make sure that it completes our definition of a MMORPG:
NOTE: At this time we are no longer adding 2D/Isometric games to our list - we will add these again at a later date once we adapt our list to allow feature filtering.
If the game fails to meet any of these criteria, we do not include it on MMORPG.com. Occasionally, we will cover high profile games that have not yet met the screenshot criteria, but they will still not be included in the “Game List”.
Ultimately, MMORPG.com reserves the right of final judgment on whether or not a game should or should not be added to our game list.
If you know a game that meets all of the criteria listed above, please email it to editor@mmorpg.com.
I wonder how many people will be in the city area... I remember last time I talked to them there was gonna be hundreds of people int he city area. But I reckon it wont be 500 huh

"The Hellgate: London secure online experience is structured around shared, multi-player towns linking together randomly generated, "instanced" adventure areas, unique for a single-player or group of players. Both free players and subscribers will be playing together in groups and guilds on huge realms supporting tens of thousands of players simultaneously."
in one of the video interviews Bill also said the persistent towns can hold hundreds of players but they will spawn another once around 100ish players are in the frist instance, kinda like how EQ2 is.

Has anyone emailed editor@mmorpg.com regarding London Hellgate?
Wrong.
Hellgate London is more of a Diablo 3 than anything Blizzard will make. Because the lead people for Diablo are making HG:L. Designing a good game is not easy. It requires good game designers, not just owning the name.
What makes Diablo great isn’t the setting or the story but that it is the definitive action RPG. No other game even came close. And the only team that knows how to make such a game are making HG:L
Oh, and it's not a FPS. Only one class plays like one. And no you don’t have to play in first Pearson.
I think Hellgate should be listed, but then I'm on record many times saying that I also think games like Counterstrike and Halo should be listed as well.

Thanks, I couldn't find that FAQ myself (or I wasn't looking properly, lol). I e-mailed the adress listed below with the request.
Thanks guys for following up on this maybe we'll see something happen soon. Because I also recall City of Heroes / EQ2 at the very least spawn another instance when there is an overflow. Entire cities were spawned like guild wars. I remember when I first played EQ2 with a friend he was all confused becauyse we were both standing in the same spot yet in a seperate zone heh. multiple universes ftw

Good job JaeSwift hopefully we will get a London Hellgate section soon.
what if a bunch of morons make diablo 3 and its worse than hgl?
To a point, but one has to remember that the same team who made Diablo also made WoW and Guild Wars too.I think they have at least one of the programmers who worked on Diablo. It could have been a beta tester or a texture artist. It could have been a level designer or netcoder. Who really knows?
As far as I know the people that now make up Flagship Studios were the ones that left Blizzard just when they started WoW, hence there input in the game was minimal. Bill Roper then set up his own game company (which is Flagship) and there's quite a few of employees from the old Diablo 2 team. check www.flagshipstudios.com for there employee list, it shows there experience aswell.
WoW was released in 2004 so I would guess it is possible that some of the Devs that made GWs, Hellgate and even Gods and Heroes had some input into the game.
When WoW was released I looked around several times trying to find out if any one person or persons were the driving force behind the game but never could find much information on the subject. One thing that is for sure is that the current WoW dev team, at least the guys who do all the talking were not even working for Blizzard even one year prior to release. The current WoW devs that do all the talking only did the raiding and pvp, they were not the guys who made WoW from the bottom up.
I do not follow the sites that really get into the dev stuff so maybe someone else knows which individuals really developed WoW from concept and what happend at Blizzard after V took over the company. I am pretty sure Mr. Roper and some of these other Blizzard devs left because of Vivendi buying Blizzard and the direction and changes they made to the company and it is also possible that some of those Devs did have lots to do with making of WoW, just not the end game as it now is.
This next statement could be completely wrong but I did read it on a dev type site years ago so I'll repeat it. The posters were saying that Mr. Roper who had indeed worked on some concept ideas for WoW was not very happy with the direction WoW was going later in development (end game perhaps) and that he wanted some input and details but basicly Vivendi told him at that point to butt out and that he no longer was welcomed to give input into the game. This was a departure of how Blizzard had worked in the past and not long after that all these devs began leaving and Blizzard hired these EQ message board guys to finish WoW's end game because Vivendi wanted an EQ type end game while Blizzard itself was not so sold on that idea.
Interesting. Id heard about this game, but never actually checked it out before. Watching some of the gameplay vids on youtube, it does have a diablo "feel" to it. So, there are classes that actually have fps style of gameplay? Its looks like it, but is it actual fps or just TR style fps?
