Hello, I've been searching and found lots of information on building a new computer. I'm a little computer savy, I'll be able to put it together but I'm kinda out of the loop on specifics, I've been doing alot of research and I read a wonderful article by Peaceandlove. He is where I got most of my ideas. After looking through other peoples posts and such I've made a little wishlist on newegg and would like your help/suggestions on it. My budget is around $1600ish maybe plus a few hundred if its really worth it (counting mail in rebates), I've been saving for a few months and tired of waiting for prices to continue to drop. Everyone keeps saying something else is coming out etc, well if I keep waiting I'll die before I have a new computer. I plan on making my purchase the first week of September. All advice is welcome and please try to help. I might have missed some items this is my first time building a computer.
Doh, I forgot to get a keyboard.
Thanks for your time.

you should be good to go man...BTW I think that cooler is because he can turn it all the way down and not see heat go up too high. that case is pretty good if you are bulding a quiet machine get the case fans that turn down and put the at low with your CPU fan at low and you should have a wuiet machine that can kick ass.
2 things i advise you not to get...well at least one. The monitor, I'd stick away from Samsung for now, they did the old bait and switch with their panels, and a lot of people have been getting screens with a very hardcore Blue tint. I'll try to find the link somewhere, or you can do a search on C, A, or S samsung panels.
Also, instead of that heatsink, I'd get the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and a nice 12cm fan..maybe a yate loon, or a scythe (Check if it would fit in your case first, because the thing is a beast). You might have to lapp the bottom of the heatsink. But with that heatsink you should be able to OC very high and have good temps.
Just my opinion at the end of the day.
The reason I picked the monitor because it was affordable nice wide screen LCD. It was highly recommended. Do you know any other that are highly recommended. I will look into the thermal heat sink. And try to see if the fan will fit thanks for helping me.
Newegg is good for getting single upgrades for decent prices, but you are nuts if you're gunna pay that for a new PC.
If youre on a $1600 budget, get the GTX instead of the GTS. Swap that case out for a CoolerMaster Stacker, the Antec 900 has the power supply mounted on the bottom, and that might pose a problem. Also the Stacker has about 8 spots for 120mm fans, and youre gonna need that cooling with that motherboard and card, trust me. I used to have the EVGA 680i board, and the voltage regulators, and n/s bridges used to get ridiculusly hot. And to be honest, the board isnt worth it.
Cut back on the RAM, power supply, and that motherboard. PowerPC and Cooling is overrated, so is Corsair. Replace the PS with a Thermaltake Toughpower, and the RAM with some G.SKill 800mhz. Also check around on motherboards, like I said the 680i chipset is overpriced, even for overclocking, you can get much cheaper.

Well I don't know of any other highly recommended screens. I just made the switch from CRT to LCD. I'm using a 20" LG L206WTQ-BF. Its been great so far (no ghosting, 2ms, 3000:1, etc. etc.) Have had no problems with it so far.
There is a big problem in that there aren't a lot of reviews on gaming LCDs and so forth. I'll try to post a link i found.
An by the way, the fans I recommended aren't for the case, but for the heatsink. The thing just comes as it is, you need to mount a fan on top, or else its just a big CNC'ed hunk of metal.
[EDIT]
Here is the link. Even if you do not pick any of the recommended LCDs give it a read.

Overall not too expensive for a PC that should take me a decent time into the future. I was so tempted to get the GTX instead of the GTS but I really want to keeep it under 2grand. I'm allready over the limit.
What are your thoughts? I think everything should work out together, and I hope to order this tomorrow after I get some input from the hardcore computer community. Also going to chance the samsung monitor I can't seem to find another one in its class in my price range. Thank you for your wonderful input and assistance.
Build looks good. And it should last you for some time. Hope the building process goes smoothly.
a raid board without raid ??? when you pay that much for a motherboard use it to it's potential, or get a cheaper motherboard.
*edit* 2,000 dollars for a rig with a 6600 at it's core ??.. i'd atleast expect to see a x6800 at the heart of that price tag. also, as others have cautioned, be careful with that monitor, and are you getting a better heatsink or just using stock cooling for now ?
the keyboard.. meh.. i didn't like mine, i'm back to a saitek eclipse 2, and just love it to death.

I plan to get more HD's when I get more cash just ordered all the parts x2 making 2 comps. with tax and shipping its about 4k so I'm right at where I need to be.
you SHOULD use identical drives for raid. hopefully they'll be available when you look to get them later.
good luck. have fun.

Bah I forgot about a heatsink. What would you reccomend? I plan on overclocking them to 3.0ghz could you reccomend a decent fan and heatsink?
If your planning on OCing at this point and time, nothing beats a Thermalright Ultar 120 Extreme + a good 120 mm fan (Yate loon, or Scythe). Again nothing beats that, unless your going water cooling, or phase shift, or anything else. But air cooling, the thermalright ultra 120 extreme is by far the best thing out at the moment. You might have to lapp (smooth out the bottom) it though.
What about

ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink - Retail

That should work. I was reading about the other fan, and alot of reviews said it was to big and had to use tape or velcro to hold it. So I might get this one.
I don't think you should have any problems with that heatsink. Also, the AS5 is good thermal paste. I'd read some reviews on your board just to make sure things are in order. I remember with my board some people had problems with the stock thermal compound on the mosfets, but no problems here.
Again, hope the build process goes smoothly.
Thanks for all the wonderful feedback, really appreciate it. Going to finish up the order with 2 more hard drives, Think I'll go striping on them. I'll let you know how it goes once I attempt to put it together =P. I've never done any raid before or OC'ing. Going to start doing my research on them. Thanks for all the wonderful help everyone
