Bottom line having tested this game for awhile now, Richard Garriot should hang his head in shame.  Six years in development  and this is what is offered to the public, thats just criminal.  I get the feeling that NcSoft are piling on the pressure to get the thing released and I can't say that I blame them after all the investment, they have been more than patient.

This game is going to be the next vanguard.  AKA an unfinished POS released early with some hasbeen designer's name tacked on to it.

I totally agree, its been WAY over hyped... (can you say bioshock)

    falls very short of expectation...

+ with Quake Wars coming, i think this RPG will just not cut it amoung the competions..

yes, as a long time RPG LOVER (Bards Tale/C64) i will gladly play a more fun sci-fi shooter over a close to boring sci-fi RPG)

in fact, sci-fi wise, i think Planescape Torment holds more sci-fi RPG fun...

I have played korean grinders funner than this game. After the first training level it is just the same crap over and over. It is less buggy than Vanguard was but it still lacks any sort of fun factor and I can't quite put my finger on why.

  • SynPandaSynPanda Member UncommonPosts: 9

your spot on & i think i know why..

i too prefer the korean freebies to this but i think this is missing cuz we so used to shooting games being high action and this isnt, its repetitive dullness...

i expect to blow up stuff & blast aliens quickly, die & respawn & jump back into it..

I expect a bit of stealth in the fights, them to be smart, on the fly switches to different weapons and grenades & such...

this has a hum-drum feel to it and you cant put this kinda crap into a theme we expect more from, its not going to work...

Well Nick - R.G was releasing computer games whilst you were still wearing diapers. So what exactly have you ever done for the gaming industry?

I was in the beta too. And I must say this whole game was one big dissapointment, from the bland gameplay(which was cool at first) to the boring quests. The bugs I dont care about(its beta afterall) but some of the basic bugs(like shooting through walls and such) shouldn't even be an issue, not even in beta.

All in all, I wont be playing this game, rather waiting for Huxley. Maybe that game will get it right

TR has features that will make many people play it. NPCs can't be "pulled" that easily in TR. their range of fire is equal to yours and they often follow you without returning to their initial "spawn" points, until you or they are dead.

All weapons unlike some fps have attributes and melee damage, they jam, they are useless against some enemy types and ammo costs a lot. You can take cover to reduce damage done to you. Reckless players in TR don't survive for long.

But despite of all these cool features, as an mmorpg it lacks many others that i would like to see implemented from Richard Garriott. The Beta lollipop after so many years of design and development is not an excuse. Tabula Rasa IS designed to be a shooter with rpg elements and not the opposite.

It is a fps evolution nothing to do with an mmorpg evolution. If you like instant shooting action without worrying about missing skill chains, buffs and earning money to buy a vehicle or a crafted item you will like it, if not then there are dozens of other "traditional" mmos that do much better than Tabula Rasa.

Just leave him be. Its a typical Fanboi reaction. Check his profile ;) Tabula Rasa fansite. He is just frustrated his fansite will be a ghostsite within 2 months or so.

I had a large EU fansite for Matrix Online ...so I know how he must feel. That's why I dont bother anymore making fansites before a game is actually released and give you some confidence first that its going to survive or not.

Been in beta since Feb - I disagree :) Honestly I wouldnt have stuck around if I found the game boring.

Another problem is that over half the quests get their location marked on your map. Where's the sense of exploration here? I like good concise directions, not have everything handed to me with a map marker telling me exactly where ABC Cave is. Now once you find the cave, sure it's ok to have a map marker but geez let us use our brains a lil.

The game is targeted at a casual audience. You know the people who dont like to think for themselves :)

Way back in Feb - you had to explore to find the logos you needed for skills. People whined about that - so now you get quests for everyone in the starting area.

But later on - you need to explore to find logos you need - they arent all given to you in a quest.

None of the UI can be moved, that just sheer laziness on the devs part.

Not sure if thats changing or not. They have said the U.I wont be moddable. Not sure on the customization though.

Personally some of the quests really annoy me - the log says go rescue Person X or Do something else - its urgent. But if I wander off for 3 days they dont care so it doesnt have that sense of urgency.

I stuck around because I orginally liked the game, and I still do to a point, however it has not kept my interest level enough to buy it.  The mix of fps/rpg and sci fi is what made me apply for the beta.  I'm not saying it's an overly bad game but it won't be ready in October and I really dislike seeing a game with such potential be realeased with such horrible bugs.  I do not want it to fail, I want it to succeed because the mmo genre needs some variety.  Maybe in a year I'll look into trying it again.

BTW yes i did explore and find Logos.  So much could be done with Logos it's a shame that they are just used for skills right now.  I do hope that in the future you could combine logos for new skills, sort of like a crafting skill.

You do have an opinion - you think the game is crap. Where did I ever say people cant have an opinion of T.R or express their opinion?

I disagree with your opinion. But hey its not my job to convince you otherwise.

This game is going to be the next vanguard. AKA an unfinished POS released early with some has been designer's name tacked on to it

However I did say that someone who has contributed nothing to the gaming industry shouldnt be calling someone like Richard Garriot (20+ years of RPG's produced, Hall of fame inductee) a has been.

And comparing T.R to Vanguard also annoys me
    - In 6 months the game has crashed < 10 times for me. As opposed to Vanguard that crashed every hour
    - Vanguard required state of the art computers to even play the game. T.R runs on my 12 month old PC without a problem.

And supporting the community does not a fanboi make. Blind fantasicm and unwillingness to let anyone say anything bad about a game does.

Well the game improves with every patch - if they can apply the same polish to the later areas as they have to the early areas the game will be in great shape. Guess we just have to wait and see if they can get that done in 6 weeks.

I was hoping I could get into crafting in T.R but I dont think I will be. Way too many recipes drop with restrictions as to what they can be applied to (armor, weapons) and what level gear they can be applied to.

I tried crafting paint tonight. It worked fine. But ate the recipe. So if I ever want to create that same shade of blue again I have to hope the identical recipe drops. Doesnt seem right some how.

Tabula Rasa brings you an MMO without the features MMO players have come to excpect.

    Like:

    No first person view.

    All content is 100% Instanced.

    All content is 100% Solo-able.

There is one set of content for the entire game. Alts will have some fun, eh?

    No LFG Tools. Use chat.

    No Auction House/Traders. Use chat.

No in-game mail, no mailing of items.

UI is 100% NOT customizable. No chat box resize. No moving of UI elements.

There are many reviews and articles about Tabula Rasa that gloss over and/or fail to mention any of these issues.

Maybe people are not mentioning this stuff because they assume these basic tenants of MMOS are in game.

I wont say its crap, but I just didnt like the game - At all.

Yeah its something different and unique, YES the lore is very creative - but how many times have you not heard about "OMG WADDAFXUP ALIENS ARE TAKING OVER" its the same thing, with an added logos thingy which is kinda neat.

this is just MY OPINION please dont spam me, you may like it.

After playing through the beta the thing that striked me the most is there was no excitement for when you first play a good MMO. I spent the first 20 seconds of play thinking "what the hell is this".

The graphics are mediocre at best, sounds are fine but lets be honest this is far from the most important aspect of what makes a good MMO.

The gameplay is shabby, if you've played the twitch style combat that NGE SWG has you'll know how poorly this plays. Everyone looks the same with the same weapons, A HUGE lack of things to do in this game.

I am dissapointed beyond a point I have never felt with any MMO I have played (and I've tried almost all of them). This was a game I was hoping to really get into this winter, I can't describe how let down I feel at the moment after playing the beta.

yikes! i cant believe how many people said this game is boring?? i was hoping to get into playing this now im not so sure... Is there atleast a pvp system? (asking for duel doesnt count)

No real PvP system which is really what this game should have had implemented, it's just a slightly glorified version of a duel system(you can duel with groups rather than just singularly).

theres dueling, which imo sucks. But then there's clan wars.

group A makes a PvP clan. group B makes a PvP clan. group C makes a PvE clan.

Group A can attack group B members (if they have pvp on) but group A or B cannot attack group C....

But im just wondering this system is so stupid - how will it work? randomly killing your own guys aint fun....

So was I :( Each time I talked about this I was flamed by "WRONG GAME NOOB!" and "THIS IS A PVE GAME GO DIE" etc etc. I was SOOOO very disappointed, This game could have made it to the top 5 if it made some major changes, perhaps another faction? if not aliens... why not .... "HUMANS GONE BAD" ?  Like humans who joined the bane? dunno... lots of possible solutions.

PvP or not, this game is just (like said before) a horrible case of very good advertising combined with a very shallow game. I really wanted this to be good but unfortunatly it just isn't.

Someone on these forums said it before, but the whole combat system basically plays like your a hunter in WoW, except you have two skills with one minute cooldown each, and the rest is just auto-attack arrow/gun shoot.

Actually, Richard Garriot deserves all of the slamming that comes his way because of this title. RG is a "has been", at this point. His first shot at TR left nobody even wanting to touch the thing - How's that for "out-of-touch" with the industry? Then he markets himself and his game to the point that nothing short of a perfect MMO will meet a majority of players' expectations. Honestly? If he spent more time actually working and directing the product instead of marketing his name and the product, it may have turned out different.

So welcome to Brad McQuiadism, Richard! You can preach but you sure can't produce.

Let's see how long it takes for the game's title to change back with his name removed. Sorry, I cannot help but think RG's time is done and this title is nothing short of six wasted years and millions of investment dollars.

Well I love this game fast paced and I can solo all I want. But I have to say this game has far more depth than WOW. I have been playing this for a few weeks and can't wait for it to come out even it bombs after 2 months. I do admit that it is a grind but not a boring grind, very fast paced and easy to learn once you get into it. The only complaint I have is the LOGOs, they can be a pain to find.

Bugs? Duh, it is beta. They have fixed a lot of the bugs so far and I am sure they will before launch. What game didn't have bugs at launch? Please let me know.

Again it has been time for me to get away from the same old MMO's. There is nothing new out there and this is, even if it is a little different. What ever happened to true RPG's?

I must admit the invasions are fun and add interest to the game. Nothing like getting up to X10 xp boost.
