this mostly applies to guys playing as girls. why do you do it? do you get excited from looking at a girl character? does it make you happy inside? are you that pathetic in real life that you have to amount to this? i dont know about you guys but i like the gender i am and i like to potray that when i am online. some would say looking at a guys butt is gay. i dont know what your doing but i actually "play" the game, i dont generally focus on the guys butt while im playin. i was just wondering why you all do this.

Always play a male character myself, howefver I have a co worker who plays WoW and all his characters are female. He is not gay and has a doll of a girl friend. I was teasing him a bit about it one day and he said his reason is it is eaasier to find groups, I would not think it would be worth the tells wanting to cyber, but then I generaly play healers who never seem to have problems finding a group anyway.
I miss DAoC
I make all kinds of characters of different races and genders.
Some classes or skill builds seem more suitable for female characters and vice versa. For example, spell casting doesn't seem like something a man would do to me so I make female spellcasters if a make a spellcaster at all, I really do not like them that much. Likewise having a female warrior or paladin seems out of place to me so I only make tank characters male, stealth can go either way and so can non-magic ranged.
Plus it adds character variety.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
Few reasons i play a female:
1) i get tired of staring at a guys @ss all day
2) You cen get a shit load of free gear
3)Groups are much easier to get
4) shockingly i find that people treat you with more respect even if they know your a guy for some reason.
5) its a role playing game so why would i want tobe something i am in reel life
First I'd say that this topic is lame and there are many, many topics like this everywhere. Usually I play a female char when male chars look like shit. Like in Guild Wars (great game btw !!!) male warriors and mesmers imo look bad. I like female warriors and mesmers much more + their armor looks way better, so i made a female char. Most of the time I play male chars... And if i'm not, i tell ppl that i am a guy... Though playing female dark elf in L2 or female night elf in WoW is fun .
Because usually male characters in MMOs look about as retarded as the OP actually is. Never can make them look like i'd want them to look.
Also, Roleplaying, but i don't expect your single half dead braincell to grasp the meaning of it.
What did ya do get into some serious cyber and find you were talking to a guy?
Why should you care otherwise?
The only reason I can think of why someone might care is if they don't realize they are suffering from homophobia and haven't come to terms with their own sexuality. I have a cousin who is gay and it took many years for him to deal with it. By many I mean over 20 years. He even got married at one point.
getting free gear and crap is not really true, i have been playing mmo's for 8 years and im female IRL, i never get jack crap, but although i never ask for anything, i like to get stuff on my own, im not a begger, and i dont go around telling every guy im a girl, i told one guy i was a girl, and the next thing i knew, i was getting stupid cyber tells, GOOD GOD!!! look, if you cant get a girl IRL, what makes you think, you'll get one online???? HMMM
playing WOW atm, nothing else there
played eq, eq2, swg, KO, RYL, shadowbane, DO, and may more.....
That was my immediate impression of the OP's angry post. You're playing an RPG. Your avatar is not a representation of your real life self in any way. You can play an elf, an orc, a dwarf, a male, a female, whatever. This should have no impact on anything unless you're looking to cyber or get off on pixels on your computer screen. Are males who play Tomb Raider or Metroid in question because the avatars in those games are female? This topic has been beaten like a dead horse on these forums and it never ceases to amaze me people who get their panties in a bunch over what gender people select for their characters. I generally create male avatars but I have created female toons too. Men play female dwarves, gnomes, and goblins. The way these races are depicted in most MMO's is by no means "hot" or meant to be a turn on. Sure there is that minute minority who use the gender of their characters in MMORPGs to exploit or engage in creepy sexual role playing, but if you're looking towards a fantasy world of trolls and elves to get your rocks off, that's a whole other issue altogether. If you're that insecure in your own gender identity that males with female avatars or females with male avatars confuses and angers you so much, you might want to take some time away from your online game time and spend it on a psychologist's couch.
Its sad that a female character can get more stuff. I've never made one so really, I can't say that they do, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I have never been more compelled to give a women a free sword, as opposed to a male. I wont lie that in most mmos, its always the guy that ends up running around pking and calling everyone noobs, but I know thats not how the "gear givers" are thinking.
Guys making a female character to get free stuff, isnt just fucked up, its manipulative and shows that your going to play the game for a few days. Although if your main character is a girl and your a guy, thats fine. As long as you didn't do it because you would rather stare at a "a girls ass" when, she and the male are really just textures/pixels/code.
To the OP, I think its funny how one of the posters seems quite pissed that you said something against his gender bending, but anyway this is a good point. And from what I've seen if you question someone about why playing the opposite gender they either tell you straight up or get very very mad, as if they weren't expecting someone to ask.
So, what I can tell you is to just leave gender out of conversation, unless you become good friends. Just partying with someone, isnt grounds for knowing if there switching genders.
What is also odd, he is complaining about guys doing this. I wonder if he ever thought it could be children on the other end of it. But he fails to bring that up so I guess when it is a child it is "ok".

Excellent point. When I played Warcraft, there were quite a few kids in my guild who had female night elves cause they were "hot." Silly, yes, but kids are allowed to be silly no matter how annoying it may be from our crotchety grown-up perspective. I had a few adult guildie friends who started RL romantic relationships with people they met on line, but in every case, this had nothing to do with their avatars /dancing together sans armor. Most of these relationships grew out of raiding and interacting on Vent or TS as RL people, versus Vortak the Barbarian sexing up Gilindra the Wood Elf in-game. It can be very unhealthy to make assumptions about people in RL based on their avatars or their actions in a virtual world.
Somebody got up to naughty buisness with a female avatar n when he asked to webcam, guess what he saw?!
it wasnt what they had told him previously i bet.
bummed!
Currently playing : Darkfall
Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more
Well he also dosnt seem to have anything against females playing male chars.
And about female chars getting free loot/into parties more easily. I haven't noticed much of a difference. There might be like like a ~4% chance of you getting an item cheaper or getting a party faster but thats it.
Playing a female avatar makes me feel uncomfortable as a male. Currently I am playing a female character to try and conquer that fear. I think the fear comes from not wanting guys to hit on me or giving me special treatment because they think I'm a girl. When you think about it it's really silly. People who play online games by now should know that most girl avatars aren't girls so they should be treated equally to a male avatar.
It would be nice if they would give an option to mark you character as male in after their name. When I play WoW I don't like the male models at all for most of the races and I find many of the female ones to be done a lot better. I would like to play that character without the hasstle of being treated like a girl.
I play a girl depending on the circmstance, such as whether the race has better male or female characters. Also it is in relation to class, some classes to me seem more apt to be females.
The other reason is I'd just rather look at a female avatar for a 8 hour gaming session. I dont get my jollies off because of it, I just think if im going to stare at a screen I mind as well stare at something that is of the opposite sex. I'd say my characters are 70% male through the games and 30% female, all of my mains through my mmo career have been male, most of my alts are female.

the reason why i havnt responded to anything on here is because i got banned for makin this topic. funny thing is they kept it on. not sure why but im just happy to be back on.
anyways while i was banned i was thinking about this. i guess it really doesnt matter. if you want to play as the opposite sex then go right ahead. i still dont understand why people treat girl chars better when they are guys irl. oh well if it makes them feel special then i guess its not hurting anyone.
Does it matter? Its not like it effects the gameplay in any way. Except for games that have sex specfic classes, which i dont mind, kind of hard to have a male geisha for example
I find the opnions of the OP quite disagreeable! What has playing the oposite gender have to do with "being pathetic in real life" ?? You're attitudes towards males playing female ( and you are even bashing them for doing it IN A ROLEPLAYING GAME) are in contradiction to basic human rights. It doesnt harm anyone, and it adds to a richer world (even in real life). They are, on the contrary of your beliefs, actually far more up-right and wholesome since they are doing what is right for them, even though people like you call them pathetic.
We actually live in 2007, and unless you come from a non-western country, you have no excuse for your dark age attitudes. You're a hipocrit and a walking, talking paradox - since you sit there behind your modern wonder with your stone aged views of what is normal.
Wow, what a small ignorant little troll you are. I bet you still laugh when someone says "booger" or "poop".

heh heheh hee hee heh hee hee hehe heeheheee... he said... uh, sorry, what? Oh yes. Damn you, internet-real life gender insecurity!
The funny thing is; a lot of female gamers will play a male character in order to get LESS attention.
I'm guessing the OP and his ilk would be fine with that, since they're only really concerned with their own motivations.
