When did your eyes open to Friendly Fire?

vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

I remember back in the day- Diablo. friendly fire, looting, and was hard as hell. was done right. was classic. I tell you God told Blizzard to make that game. It was that good. we played it and player it. we killed all the demons in hell and it kept going and we kept becoming more and more uber.

Then starcraft was FFA. i remem my first match still online. 3vs3. we won. my teammates unallied me for no reason and kicked my butt.

those were the days. Friendly Fire / FFA, its all the same too me.

its in abundance in FPS games isnt that no suprise? in rainbow 6: vegas other night a teammate tossed a bomb at our enemy, it bounced off a wall, it killed us all. we laughed forever.

I see good times in darkfall. I can already smell the burning smoke when my noobie friend accidently tosses a fire AoE spell and it burns our teammates if he's not careful.

I cant wait.

The first time  someone threw a fireball in my DDO party and it detonated in the MIDST of our party...

and DIDN'T hurt any of us -

I threw a fit I'm sure people still chuckle about...

I saw it first in PnP RPG. In a timetravelling semi selfmade RPG based on the Chill ruleset the party was in an old castle hunting for badguys armed with modern weapons and explosives.

GM: You are standing at the bottom of stairs circeling upwards enclosed in brick. You see no one but someone or something could be hiding in the darkness.

Player 1: I light my dynamite cube

    GM: oookkkkay ??

Player 2: Whats your plan ?

    Player 1: <silence>

GM: You light up a dynamite cube, what do you do ?

Player 2: Ok, I guess he wouldn't hurt his friends.

Player 1: I throw it up the stairs to make sure no one is hinding there.

GM: Well, you throw it up the stairs (rolls some dices) and here it comes bouncing and rolling back.

Some laughed, some cried, noone present forgot :)

Haha, indeed. Friendly Fire isn't bad, its something we have missed in mmorpgs, theres no better humour than accidental "teamkills."

this would also creat some really cool ways to knock off some of those annoying random players on ur team..... nothing like killing the guy that cant do crap and annoys ya. Also be interesting how this will effect the political part of the game.

Not to rain on your parade dielleforfir but i doubt there will be much politics in DF. I mean if you dont agree with someone  PKem...thats the DF lifestyle right there...

well, back in the day. (over 30 years ago) DnD was like that.  The concept of friendly fire and/or safe spell casting wasn't around in the games we played.  To me, it was part of the ez-mode additions made to games (don't care about the justifications) which got rid of this really self-balancing in game effect.

If you define politics as a way to handle agreements and disagreements between different parties of players, DF will be highly political. If you disagree and PK an ally, your Guildleader may have to do some sweettalking, offer repairation, start a war or throw you out of the guild to the waiting wolves. If yoy PK a neutral or enemy guild, they may want to step up the war to get to YOU.

As in EvE, you will see alot of politics in DF and not the fake kind you find in other games.

When I found that counterstrike could keep me occupied for longer than any MMORPG ever except for maybe Pre-Cu SWG, even then though I found the way that fireballs automatically zoomed to a target rather than actually missing or blaster fire would just shoot THROUGH people without hurting them, that ticked me off a bit, I look forward to teamkills personally, it makes you think more strategically.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

Umm i was just kidding in that last post... i didnt think anyone would take that comment seriously.... Back to the topic  friendly fire makes the game all the more intersting, it will tst the clans unity, like if a newb acccidently shoots a fireball at the leader and ends of lossing a war, will the newb be forgiven? Or will he face the rath of his own clan ganking him.... Hope you have a supportive clan

    What did ol' Clausewitz say?...

"War is merely the continuation of Politics by other means"...

      ...I believe is the translation.

Not entirely sure he didnt get it backwards; however

Politics are awsome! I love when people talk about things because it gives me the opportunity to go behond there backs and take there loot and kill em.  I just like fighting people, if there are politics involved well then I have to be careful who I kill, but there is still killing which makes me happy.

My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing

was playing Halo 3 coop last night with a buddy. was trying to figure out the controls, accidently tossed a grenade and blew up half of our allied soliders.

this is sad, friendly fire is in overabundance in FPS - the genre that involves the fastest eye coordination known to man. makes the game feel a lot more realistic when you have to watch tossing out those grenades. must've killed my buddy 3-4 times last night. haha, friendly fire is newbies worst nightmare I bet I wonder how many are crying on those boards right now

If its an allied race and especially in your clan it hurts you alot to do that. Makes you evil instead of good or nutreul and that can hurt you for quests and everything.
