Greetings all, I constructively read all the posts and would like to add a reply on my original topic. A couple have mentioned that I certainly can't call this a review. Well, my logical answer would be that I am giving an opinionated review of what I have experienced and know about the game. You most certainly can give a review even though you may not know all the content. I could have perhaps put a different title, which might not have mislead some, but I thought it best to put a review of only what i have experienced in the game so far; no more and no less. Some others wanted to know did I play on populated times, on different servers and what was the highest level I reached? Yes, I did play on one pvp server and managed to enjoy times of low and hi populated times. Of course I met people in the main cities and realise that alot would most likely be in higher lvl areas. My highest lvl was a druid at lvl 30. The big question is though why did I not enjoy it? Well, the answer is that I did not get a feeling for the game, the game dynamics and the general sense of purpose and fun right from the beginning. My milege may indeed vary but I just wasn't having fun and drawn in from the word "go." Yes, give it a real shot, but at what stage or level was I supposed to start getting more fun? I thought lvl 30 was high enough. A game should draw you in from the start and if it doesn't seek other ways to start learning more about the game, it's lore, game dynamics, interfaces, chat, guilds, professions, amongst others. I was in a guild, I explored, tried various basic professions and worked on my game lore, combat system and chatting in game generally. I highly recommend that you give this game a good go and take it as it comes. I was not drawn in unfortunately, but let your own "fun factor" be the judge. This is by no means a review as such that experienced gamers use to compare MMORPGs that use a prescribed method via categories but rather myself using the game itself and playing it to review how fun the game was for me.
Peace.
Like i said i respect this dude because he gave it and shot and like all mmorpg its not for everyone.I recall when wow came out and all were falling in love with it ,still some simply did not like it.So thats why we got many mmorpg to fit all taste.
Sadly i think zoning is one thing that gives people an impression of the population .I actually made a zerker last night to fool around and started in the old zones and saw 1 guy complain about not meeting much people. Now considering there is 4 starter areas and the old cities are 10 + zones this was not at all suprising. Its not like the old days when only 2 starter cities and all sat in willow woods.
After chatting with him and noticing he likes the game i decided to ask him into my guild and he was shocked to see 30+ guildies online (and my guild is even a small one mainly for the minority brits on oasis) and this was even late evening for us.Zoning certainly has been my achilles heel with this game and i think also when it comes to population it does same thing as it really fragments people espically new players and non guilded considering how many zones exist now in EQ2
Maybe SOE should take this as a clue to try and make a better grouping tool. All of these games are pretty much the same and they all suck as a single player game. What the game really needs are better grouping tools and merging of servers if it is to survive. A new area and a new race won't help it's low level population numbers in my opinion.
To all those who say the population is fine... well companies don't give out free copies of their game when buying another of theirs when their game population is "fine".
If McDonalds screws up my Big Mac and as compensation, they give me a coupon for free fries, is it evidence that their fries suck? Or is it simply compensation for screwing up my original order?
Vanguard was screwed up. SOE wants to retain customers. It's not hard to see that a lot of people interested in Vanguard would also enjoy EQ2. It's obvious to anyone with half a brain. Of course, I can see why you may have missed it.
Actually if SoE has their way we would all be using all access accounts because it pays them well.An all access = 2x regular sub.So frankly if i was in their shoes i would give free download option to ALL my other games if you are subbed to 1 in hope that if you like just 1 more you would go all access and i would reap x2 the money. Its called good marketing which is something mmorpg companies are learning fast.Look what good marketing did for wow.

WTF are you talking about? EQ2 has one of the better LFG tools out there, and EQ2 certianly doesn't need server merges.
EQ2 is about a well polished game as is out there. Although I have had friends quit and say "there's just something missing" I have left twice, the first time was shortly after release when they were still getting all the bugs out. I left to wow, which eased the pain and suffering since it was so dummy proof. I came back about a year later and stayed. I then left only because I simply had to take a break. This game each time I came back amazed me, and how much better it got. Now if I stayed would I have noticed the big differences? Maybe, but it wouldn't have been so jaw dropping each time. Graphics I can't say if they changed, since I started with an average computer and each time I came back with a better one. So yes I do see it better, but I'm not sure if that's the graphics improving or simply my computer getting better. When I want to solo I solo, when I want to group I group. Never did I find any trouble at all finding a group... They're called friends, I don't play an MMO to not meet new people. If I feel like doing a quest that I know needs a group I call some friends up and get in game. Even pick up groups are easy, but sometimes you end up grouping with some characters that simply aren't making things fun. All in all this game is about as good as it gets, but it can always improve. And it has been improving over time. I'm not saying this is the Holy Grail to gaming, but at the moment, there's not much out there that is better. Obviously this is dependent on your style of play.

Now this is just trolling .Nearly everyone agrees EQ2 lfg and grouping system is one of the best.Have you played the game before?
Now considering apart from epic quests i never had an issue of an unfinished quest in my journal even the hard group ones.
Log into my LOTRO and its riddled with group quests that i always end up deleting because i cannot find a group at same stage of my quest .Now thats a horrible grouping system tool. The search box for lfg is as terrible .
These people frothing at the mouth to defend EQ2 population is comical. This will be my last month playing, acct is going to be cancelled. But I can't in good conscious let these eq fanbois lie to the public about how active EQ2 servers are.
Like I said in another post, I have played since day one...we all know they had to merge servers b/c of dead servers... Well, they need to do it again. There are only 2.. maybe 3 active US servers in all of EQ. One is RP and one is PvP... those are the only two that consistently reach "Heavy" population. RP server may be active, i dunno, i dont play there. But Nagafen.. the most active server is misleading. SoE must of reduced the amount of players logged in to read "Heavy".. i remember when servers were sorta active.... there would be 3 Ants/2CL/2 TS's up and loads of people up in KoS and SS.. not to mention tons from t3- t6.. was so easy to find a group as well. Those days sometimes the server would read "medium"... But now today... 1 of each zone open.... t3-t6 is completely dead.. and u may run into 1 or 2 people up in KoS. Lets not to mention most nights you use the lfg menu and there is maybe 2 people on the entire server using the tool. Later in teh evening its quite common to see zero people on the lfg tool... w/ few random people in chat lfg who never get one. YET SOE HAS THE SERVERS SHOWING HEAVY... this comical and so obvious what they did. Even people in the game say the game is dead. You can usually see this comment in btw the constant complaining in chat about game mechanics that goes on all day long.
There are a handful of peopel who even level to 70 anymore. I can guarantee you if you are a casual player level 40 and trying to xp you will not find a group. A new player may be misled into thinking that the server is active b/c alot of the old players just play t2. And many of the new players never take a toon above 20. Any game where most of they population refuses to play in but only one level range will seem like its active. If i took all the players from Vanguard and made em all play 12-20 then it would seem pretty active too wouldnt it? If you want to play a game where you only level to 20.. then this game is for you. If you want to get groups through all levels and have a fun endgame.. this game is not for you. This is the first game i have played that people enjoy staying at low levels then actually leveling up and seeing the whole game.... funny isnt it? Tells you alot about endgame.
Again, I cant stand by here and let these guys lie to you about population of EQ, with only 2 active US servers in all of the game. I can't say much about the RP server.. but if you are coming here to PvP.. do not waste your money. If you dont believe me just do the trial. I don't blame these guys for trying to lie and advertise a game they are, and i once was addicted to. SoE has sucked so much money out of all of us with expansions/adv packs that alot of them will be dishonest just so their game does not continue going down the hole like it is.
Really, what reason do i have to tell you a game that i spend hundreds of dollars on is a dieing game....none. What reasons do these fanbois have to lie and tell you their game is popular and populated....they have many. So, like I said you don't believe me get the trial.. and again dont be misled by the population just b/c the entire pvp server only plays level from 12-20.
Oh nan, believe me, it isn't us thats lying. If you don't like the game, then leave, but at least have the guts not to behave like a child who didn't get his way.
Oh nan, believe me, it isn't us thats lying. If you don't like the game, then leave, but at least have the guts not to behave like a child who didn't get his way.
Only thing childish here is the people lieing about how populated this game is. And i didn't get my way? doesn't make sense... what are you... ohhh wait.. yah... I didn't get my way. I wanted a game where there was a big community and you werent fighting the same 10 people everyday.... yah you are right.. i didn't get my way.
And to add... if you dare even say the population isn't half of what is used to be, then you must be a new player or just ignoring the truth. Mor.. I am sorry the game you are so addicted is overrated, but don't sit here and lie to people about server populations.....Ok lets agree that a "Heavy" server is actually "populated..... Well guess what.. EQ2 only has 2 US servers liket that........ Any mmo game that only has 2 active servers is a dead game... bar games like Eve.
For you to come here and say EQ is populated when you and I both know they only have 2 "active" servers is ridiculous.
Even if that wasn't bad enough.. soney charges 50 bucks to have your character xferred... so those guys stuck on all those dead servers cant transfer to one of the two semi "active" servers.
EQ2 has basically one server worth playing: Nagafen. Granted I havent played in a while, but about 6 months ago it was well populated.
Thats a load of you know what. You may not like the game but then why are you here just to bash it? I don't go to other forums just to bash them. You know what that says about you when you engage in that kind of behavior, right?
?????
Did Moirae forget to take his medicine again? He didn't bash anything...
Lol yeah I've seen it happen before. The kid is nuts.
I loved my time on nagafen but I had guild-o-phobia and soloing through all the gankers in CL got to be a bit much. Now Im thinking of a return, but if the pop is low even on nagafen-and I only play eq2 for the great pvp anyway- then forget it.

I appreciate the warning. Ive heard pvp is only really active in the lvl 20 areas because of twinks who enjoy staying there. Is that true? I enjoyed nagafen up to 5-6 months ago and found it to be more than adequately populated, but if things have changed since then then I'll return to DAOC, WOW, or some Korean grindfest
I am not sure why there are several people slamming the game and calling it dying..
As a matter of fact, I am new to the game...so add another new person. As I started, I saw ton's of other people in the General channels, asking questions, discussing the game, having a good time...I certainly am.
I had so many issues trying to start EQ2 in the past...but I think it has matured, and has become a much better game now...way better than any of the other titles out there (and I have played Guild Wars...which is still good even after 3 years, WoW..(got bored of this) and LOTRO (the ultimate crap game))..
The LFG tool and the Guild Search tools are amazing, and no other game matches that quality..combat is fierce and quite fun (for a PvE experience at least)...maybe it is just the fact that these people have played so long...time to take a break..
I think maximum life on an MMO is one year right now...if i can get a year, I am golden..GW was a year and half of straight playing, WoW was a year...LOTRO...3 months ...lol (it was that bad)...
The fact I have clocked 40 hours in 2 weeks on EQ2 is pretty good for a casual 1-2 hr player...(I played WAY more than that though...lol)
No..I believe it is age of the MMO that jades a player, and if they have been playing for more than a year, maybe time to take a break or move on...
idk about the NSANE saying, but on blackburrow there is pretty good activity on that server not to mention my guild being amazingly active nd getting 3-5 guild recruitment requests a day. my guild has anywhere between 15-20+ online at any given time sometimes up to 40+ the chat channels even in the lowbie areas are even active 1-30 some are lvl 70 alts that roll new characters but there are quite a few that openly advertise that they are new to the game etc. so this thing about eq2 dying as far as im concerned is unfounded.
lets not forget that alot of the people who play Eq2 and have the horsepower under the hood under their computer tend to have a 9-5 job, and have kids and are married or just in general have responsibilties, when u take into effect the demographics of this game attracts. i notice alot of people tend to be on around 7-10pm EST and into the early morning (europe UK or whatnot i think ) hell i got a killer PC that can max this game out and I have a 9-5 job so although i dedicated a nice amount of time to this game and my guild I do have responsibiltiies so u wont see me on all the time like alot of people :P but even still the servers are very active. so as far as im concerned NSane's Post has no credibility at lesat as far as being on blackburrow is concerned when u got a bunch ofpeople yapping a bunch of innate Bullcrap lol. but at the sametime u end up haing some halarious level channel chatter lol if anything this presumes that the server is very active.

Thx for your honest opinion. I basically agree with you on that the game, while really beautifully looking and full of content, just didnt hold me. It just felt...well I am not sure how to put this in words - something was missing. Played in beta, after launch and a year after launch. The graphics are certainly stunning, but only from a purely technical point of view. To me everything looked like plastic, dunno. And the constant zoning in the city really aggrevated me after a while The combat and classes I thought were well done, quests were OK for the most part (I just dont see what the point in these "kill x of that and y of that" quests is, of which there are quite a couple in EQ2, too). which tends to be in every MMO on the market has. wow, lineage2(it does have quests just a few though), DAOC, eq2 , eq, SWG u name it, they all have kill x amount of y and bring me back x amount of z , so im sorry that is a moot point if you dont want to kill badger, rats, or other various wildlife dont play MMOs lol Anyhow, I still think that EQ2 is one of the better MMOs out there right now. I would agree on this that eq2 tends to be th better MMOs in the genre

Agreed on the kill X or Y creatures...but what is nice is that EQ2 also breaks this up once in a while...with discussion trees for quests, little puzzle styles, etc. And the fact that the crafting is phenomenal...if I feel like taking a break from those kill X,Y quests, I will go make something instead...and now, if I want, I can play a card game if I wish...very cool.
I also am a casual as a previous poster stated...maybe 1-2 hours a day (even though this game has dragged me into 3-5 plays...it is that fun)...and I have a killer system, so the game looks and runs great..but, this also says a lot for the overall community...not many kids...and more mature players on the game...I like that.
I think I stated it before...MMO's usually have a life of 1 year if good, and this game will probably have me just that long...
I think the world gets boring fairly quickly in EQ2. And I don't see why people think the quests are much more interesting than those in WoW. But the main problem I had as a UK player was the lack of support for the 'UK' servers and lack of players due to limited availability of the game. I'm enjoying Guild Wars more, although I wish there was some crafting/trades involved. Apart from that GW has a more interesting world, dynamic story and far more players.

GW is the bomb...and I agree, wish there was more crafting, housing, something...the missions system is awesome...even though quests are fun here as well.
Maybe Guild Wars 2 will be the savior of the MMO world...maybe! They should have all these options listed above...eh?
The reason the quests are more interesting in EQ2 than WoW is the multi-tiered quests...for example...
WoW - I need 10 pelts...kiil, drop, kill, no drop, kill...etc...return to quest giver
EQ2 - I need 5 pelts..kill, drop, kill, drop...kill, no drop...etc..hmm...seems I did not find the proper pelts, so look for this variety of pelt...back to work...REWARD
Or...the question/answers of some quests..it is like your having conversations...and I actually catch myself listening to the voices, or reading instead of run up, right click accept quest like in WoW...
In so many words...I love having more than one thing to do in the field, and then the insta-reward thing is also cool for faction quests...etc. No...the quests are MUCH more interesting, and quick rewards means more gets done, etc..
Originally posted by openedge1 EQ2 - I need 5 pelts..kill, drop, kill, drop...kill, no drop...etc..hmm...seems I did not find the proper pelts, so look for this variety of pelt...back to work...REWARD
The above is a misrepresentation. [I ordinarily do not defend EQ 2 because the game is so good I do not need to. But I am taking a break from work tonight and have spare time. LOL.]
The EQ 2 gameplay is the most sophisticated and deep and accessible you can find on today's market. The Quests range from environmental to dungeon to heroic to city tasks. You have options. You have variety. You have, most importantly, fun.
In fact, I really enjoy the "collection" Quests where you find rare items and add them to your collection such as a werewolf head to a gem.
And to add... if you dare even say the population isn't half of what is used to be, then you must be a new player or just ignoring the truth. Mor.. Looked at who got ganked by the younguns...hehe
Agreed that PvP is not where EQ2 is at tho'...PvE is better..
But still...you got noob ganked didnt ya?...talk about anger issues...lol!

Even if that wasn't bad enough.. soney charges 50 bucks to have your character xferred... so those guys stuck on all those dead servers cant transfer to one of the two semi "active" servers.
nsane, you are full of it. Go, if you're going to act like this, we'll be glad to see you gone.

Cheers!
idk about the NSANE saying, but on blackburrow there is pretty good activity on that server not to mention my guild being amazingly active nd getting 3-5 guild recruitment requests a day. my guild has anywhere between 15-20+ online at any given time sometimes up to 40+ the chat channels even in the lowbie areas are even active 1-30 some are lvl 70 alts that roll new characters but there are quite a few that openly advertise that they are new to the game etc. so this thing about eq2 dying as far as im concerned is unfounded.
lets not forget that alot of the people who play Eq2 and have the horsepower under the hood under their computer tend to have a 9-5 job, and have kids and are married or just in general have responsibilties, when u take into effect the demographics of this game attracts. i notice alot of people tend to be on around 7-10pm EST and into the early morning (europe UK or whatnot i think ) hell i got a killer PC that can max this game out and I have a 9-5 job so although i dedicated a nice amount of time to this game and my guild I do have responsibiltiies so u wont see me on all the time like alot of people :P but even still the servers are very active. so as far as im concerned NSane's Post has no credibility at lesat as far as being on blackburrow is concerned when u got a bunch ofpeople yapping a bunch of innate Bullcrap lol. but at the sametime u end up haing some halarious level channel chatter lol if anything this presumes that the server is very active.

Cheers!
My 1.34723 cents worth
The above is a misrepresentation. [I ordinarily do not defend EQ 2 because the game is so good I do not need to. But I am taking a break from work tonight and have spare time. LOL.]
The EQ 2 gameplay is the most sophisticated and deep and accessible you can find on today's market. The Quests range from environmental to dungeon to heroic to city tasks. You have options. You have variety. You have, most importantly, fun.
In fact, I really enjoy the "collection" Quests where you find rare items and add them to your collection such as a werewolf head to a gem.
Looked at who got ganked by the younguns...hehe
Agreed that PvP is not where EQ2 is at tho'...PvE is better..
But still...you got noob ganked didnt ya?...talk about anger issues...lol!
