Friend quit SOTNW today, and is back in FF11 he isnt on atm... and Im rather lost.
I finalyl got the game patchedm got in game.... but Im having an incredibly time simply doing the basics.
Combat, weapons, upgrading the graphics, using abilities, how to get into wsad movement instead of the num pad.
Looks like the game is designed for a gamepad and not for pc's so probably have to buy it on xbox...but want to get some use out of my trial.
Is there a way to hotkey spells so I dont have to go fishing for that heal?

and how in the world do you get mana back?
By having items that regen those, have buffs on you that get these back, or sit down and rest.
You are going to have to create macros for these and then assign them to different keys.
Bring up your menu in-game and look for the tab entitled "Macro". On the upper part of your screen you'll see some blank boxes, you can setup your hot-keys here. In order to set a hot-key (commonly known as Macro's in FFXI), you need to set a line of commands in order to cast a certain spell or ability. Depending on what type of spell your trying to cast (one on yourself or one on your enemy) will determine what kind of line of command you type into the lines provided. Seeing as how you want to set a macro for cure, an example of how to set a macro for cure would be to type, "/magic "Cure" <me>" without the quotes around /magic and <me>, but keep the quotes around the word "Cure". You could also type the line as "/magic "Cure" <t>", which cures anyone or thing you have targeted (when in a party, use this line so you can target a party member and cure them).
Also, in order to recover your mana your going to need to heal (type /heal to heal).
Hope that description wasn't to horrible.
ok thanks a ton, got that part figured out. My next question.
WASD how do I use it? it types when I press the button.
Also...Im a white mage... cant seem to kill the things right outside of town... do I need to buy something?
You will have to equip your weapon, they should have given you a wand. Just wand them to death and cast your heals. Eventually you will get damage spells as you level making this easier.
EDIT: I never used the WASD keys for this game, I just used the num pad.
oh and whats tp?

No wand just fists... and not working to well hehe

Go into your inventory and equip it. You should have one.
I'm sorry this is off topic, but I would prefer not to create a new thread, and you guys have inspired me to check into this game again (I bought it but played for like 10 hours)
So in order to level up at a decent rate, whats the minimum amount of play time per day that I should play?
I played this game for two years and I had a level 75 Red Mage, and Black Mage, along with a level 41 White Mage, and 37 Summoner and Ninja. I would play as little as two hours a night and as much as four.
Two years
How are you not bored yet? Or is there like tons and tons of content?
ahh found the rod. I didnt see anything in items, and assumed I didnt have one. First game I have seen with two inventories /sigh
Thanks
Also...im now participating in my nations conquest...whats that mean?
There is a ton of things to do in this game which made it fun for me. It is a very group oriented game and that is another plus for me. I see you have racked up a ton of hours in World of Wacraft, so I would imagine you would be able to spend years playing one game as well.
It means you can collect special items used in crafting when you kill mobs I believe. I haven't played in quite some time but I think that is what it is. Also, when you kill mobs you get points besides exp and this will be used to acquire gear down the road.
Meh not years, more like 4 -6 months for me, I was addicted like no other though...
How hard is it to find a group though? I mean I dont like sitting in one spot for hours trying to find a few people to quest with, it just feels counter-productive and not a good use of time.
I am the type of player that likes to make my own groups so it takes just mere minutes. I believe the longest I have waited while trying to organize my own group was maybe 30 minutes. Also, from when I played they have increased the EXP totals so it makes leveling less of a grind.
Should check out the guide I wrote, "The definitive guide for FFXI jobs". I put up a pretty accurate estimation on how often each job gets party invites according to level increments along with some other stuff.
Awesome, you my friend have convinced me to give this game 15 more dollars, I shall try the game again because I feel like my 14 hours of play was not enough (most of which I think was patching though)
First: Your problem is that your keyboard configuration is set on that other option, make it set it as "Compact" which will allow you to use the WASD keys instead of typing the letters out.
Second: Equip your weapons and go out hunting and save ALL your crystals and stack them up using organize in your inventory menu.
Sell everything else or keep them.
You will get Dia soon, which will act like a DOT and it will lessen the already long and persisent back n forth wack a bit.
At level 10-12 you should be heading to Valkurm dunes or somewhere you can get a decent party. Most PT will have a PLVLER meaning a high level will be there healing for you guys so you can get more EXP per hour.
An hour at 10+ in Valkurm with PLVLER should get you 1-2 levels, if playing more than 3+ hours and with a good advancing PT you should get from 10-15 in no time. THis is with a GOOD group that knows how to exp chain and keep the battle constantly going w/o downtime, so you can get maximum XP per HOUR.
Sell your crystals int he AH (auction house) in stacks so you have a little profit. Buy all your spells from NPC unless you see a good deal on the AH.

Link maybe?
Oh, and I remember there was no way to choose your server, so how do you go about changing what server your located on?

Also, you can choose your own server now, which is good.
I have talked about this with my pre launch AoC guild many times. If I had not left FFXI for those three months, I would still be playing it today. I miss it. The grind of the game gave me more of a sense of accomplishment when I did something good. It wasn't like other mmorpgs where there is instant satisfaction right off the bat until you really learn how to play.
You should not even be playing games if you are not willingly to give a good MMO a DECENT try. Decent meaning atleast a minimum of 1 week with atleast 20 hours so you can get the hang of what this game is about, how people interact, the "sense" of the game and such. 14 hours is not even enough to satisfy it. And as you said, most of it was patching.

Yea I know, most games I do give a good try to, for some reason though I kind of slacked on this one.
Oh wait, now I know why, when I went to the store, I bought FFXI, and also a trial of WoW. Guess which one I liked more.
WoW was probably the reason that I didnt give this game a good try, and does anyone want to recommend me a fairly populated server?
