Well, i must say, i am somewhat dissapointed that this game is going the "mature" route(edit i am talking about sex related content here.) Dont get me wrong, im 21 and enjoy those sorts of things as much as anyone else, but i enjoy those things IRL, and its not something that i want in the game im playing. If i wanted to watch porn, then there are plenty of other sources that would bring a far greater return than a video game. Sadly, i am thinking perhaps this "adult themed" content will be a high attraction, not for the ADULTS but rather for the teenagers. I would have really enjoyed this game, however, i am not going to lower moral standards to enjoy a video game.

First off let me say Age of Conan will not be even close to watching porn. The furthest they are going is topless women. Also, just because this is in game, does not mean you have to participate in it if it is such a problem. My next problem with your statement is that you are worried about teens playing this game? I have met many teens who have been immature in video games but I have also met many people over 30 who are very immature. No matter what game you choose you will be playing with mature and immature people. Now let me get this straight... you are lowering your moral standards and not playing this game because you can see a womans chest but stealing and killing in the game and decapitating people would not be lowering moral standards? Well thought out.
Lewkas have you read any of the Conan stories? The game is trying very hard to stick to the lore from Robert E. Howard. If you have not read any of the stories I highly highly recommend it. They are fantastic short stories and the sex, nudity, slavery and hardcore violence is all in his stories. I don't think it will lower anyone's moral standards by sticking to the lore.
I'm all for sticking to the lore as much as possible. REH probably would want it that way for AoC and not a watered down E rating for everyone... least in my opinion.

Personally, I wish developers could just put things in game without having to worry about censorship. Let them build the damn game the way they want to. I'm tired of getting dumbed down and censored versions of games for the "sensitive" American market. I should not need to import the Euro version of games to get the game as it was intended and designed. Simple solution, just let them disable the content if they don't want to see it. Oh no, but we can't have an OPTION. Hell god forbid there be some unfinished buried unlockable code somewhere in a game that contains a nipple, someone will find the hash for it and scream "OMG SCANDAL" and try to ban the game.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Whether explicit or implicit I too think this sort of behavior is not necessary in a video game and wonder just where the industry is going.
All I can think is that we should not come crying here when laws in the West begin to follow some other countries around the world in regulating who and how much gaming any of us play.
Thank you industry! You are making such "good" decisions.

Just wondering after reading what your first line states about necessity. There are many things in video games that are not needed. PvP is not needed in some games, PVE not needed in others. Quests aren't needed in some because you can just grind the whole way. Killing is not needed in games. Stealing is not needed in video games. See where I am going? It is just something extra to the game that doesn't affect the core of the game. Just because it is there does not mean you have to use it.
I could understand your disagreement for the inclusion of the Adult Content if it didn't help set the atmosphere of Conan. Its a savage barbaric world. I think they are adding fluff to help set the tone. There is one thing I don't understand though. Why is showing breasts on a video such a big deal yet you don't object to decapitations and blood spewing everywhere. I really don't understand people with those views. Apparently showing part of the anatomy of a female on a video is more damaging than simulated murder. Blows my mind how people think this way.
This thread is still on the first page so obviously you did not bother to read anything on the topic before posting. Also you must not know much about Conan lore. Many of the stories are ripe with sexual/sensual content. I guess most people on here just want to lower their moral standards for violence alone.

The only people who talk about maturity are kids trying to sound old. I've never heard anyone over 18 talk about maturity in my entire life. Maturity doesn't exist, people don't suddenly get boring once they get old, unless they were already boring when they were young. People like sex. People like it in movies, people like it in video games. The Conan world was brutal and lush, without sex it would be more like a kids fantasy novel. Sex is the reason for our existence and certainly something we should be immersed in in a primordial and barbaric world.

I try to stay out of the big arguments and senseless debates about games, and people being overly offended in a needless manner. I have remained out of this one also, but a question does continue to pop into my head when I see threads like this one pop up so often.
SOOOOOO... You can read through probably 80% + of the threads in MMORPG and other game related forums, and see people being so bored with repititious content, and "Copy cat" material. Lets face it, with todays technology there is still only SO much that a company can do and still appeal to a major market share. Sure, they could make everything top of the line, and then only 1% of the populace who play MMO's would be able to play the game. So yes, some graphics look the same, and some UI and quest interface all look similar, to a degree.
Then when a company tries to do something that IS (for the time being) "Unique" or catering to a smaller percentage of the market, people get offended, or feel morally obligated to oppose them. Okay, we all get it. "You" (Not directing that to the OP, this is a more general statement) do not like it. So do not play it. You want to play a fantasy MMO, there are 345452624546342 out there for you. you want Sci-Fi, there are almost as many, and that corner of the market is on the rise also. If you do not find what you want in any of that MASS of games, and find yourself sitting around wondering when something "Fresh" or "inventive" will come out, think back to all of these threads, and thank yourself, and every other (quite honestly) whiner who decides to crusade against those who take the time and go out on a limb to make something "different" because it is the censorship, and cry babies, as well as those idiot parents who buy things for their children without knowing WHAT they are buying, and then taking out a lawsuit against a company who gave proper warning, where a parent did not give proper parenting.
Please, MMO community, stop crying, or being offended, and move on. There are enough games for your personal needs, and where a specific desire is not met, people are making an effort, and laboring against censorship. Again, my comments are not directed "against" you, OP (Per se) so much as the crusaders who fight against anything that is not in their personal ideals. Oh, and for the bad parents I offended, I will clarify by stating that I myself play MMO's with my kids, and my wife. I am aware of what they do and what they play (the children) and for those of you who are the type who stay informed, I applaud you. It is not you I was addressing. (I apologize for all of the clarifications. Just trying to leave as little room for crying about what I say as possible. Though I have no doubt someone will still find reason to complain and take offense. Such is the ways of the current majority in MMO's.)
If they are sticking to the lore of Conan then get over it. All of that nudity and sex along with other stuff was in the stories.
Read the stories!!!! Then you will be glad they are trying hard to stick to the lore. Trust me Robert E. Howard writes very very well.

Well said!
adult content is nothing more then them trying to hype the game. swearing, nudity, over the top amount of bloodsprays hack in slash directional combat made to run on a 360 controller and future release on the 360.. does any of this sound adult? as a 34 yo mmo fan none of these things make it on my adult list.
What does your honorable adult mmo list consist of?
Mature driven quests and storylines incorporating integration of the lore amongst which the game is based. Nudity and blood are part of that sorry if you cant deal with it, its been no secret. Crafting not based on repetitive exp actions.
ESA Facts: http://www.theesa.com/facts/top_10_facts.php
"The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years."
"The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 38 years old. In 2007, 92 percent of computer game buyers and 80 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18."
"Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31%) than boys age 17 or younger (20%)."
"In 2007, 24 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999"
"For PC users - "Fifty-eight percent of online game players are male." "Forty-two percent of online game players are female."
Adult driven content for the obvious adult market. Know of any other mmorpg's rated mature?
As some one who already has said "aoc is made for kids" good for you!!!
What does your honorable adult mmo list consist of?
never mentioned anything about honor just pointed out that to me the whole adult theme is a load of crap. and why would they even bother with the 360 version if the whole pr plan wasn't to attract as many as possible?A 360 version will bring in a ton of younger players period. not saying that good or bad just pointing out this whole adult theme is meaningless hype the only game i guess i could see aimed at the "adult" crowd is maybe eve ,but im not sure that was intended just the time based skill system scares away alot of the younger players who don't have the patience to wait.

Kano have you read any of the Conan stories at all? Any of them? If you have you'll know that REH writes just like you see in the teaser trailer.
Frost Giants Daughter is one example of how lust for sex drives a story also his relationship with Belit and Zenobia. There is also one battle scene where he is fighting dwarves and it goes into great detail of the battle. That is just how REH was and how the game is trying to be.

Kano himself makes it sound like he is one of those kiddies he seems to not want to play with.
Next thing they need is a voice chat, and making that scene sounds alive. Encouraging players to make some noise and turning themself on.
With this adult contents, there will be less noob calling and more boob calling, lol.
Its entertainment, like spam clicking on same npc from WoW and /music from LotR; however, this game is not made for everyone. Even I may not want to play this game, dont like the ideas of kids from relatives comming over and ask why the lady is not wearing any cloths and why that persons head flying all over the place.
Think of this as a good thing, there will be less kids playing this game who tend to bother more mature players.
The talk of "mature gameplay" is terrific hype by the folks at Funcom.
We're talking about it, aren't we?
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

If you dont like the idea of kids from relatives coming over and asking "why the lady isnt wearing any clothes or they ask about heads flying off people", then dont play the friggin game in their company you FOOL!
Dont make it out like its the game makers fault for the way and the environment you potentially play the game. It's not scrabble or some Disney game..

Im sorry but this is the biggest load of crap i have ever read on these forums. We dont do this type of thing in the "western countries"... following other countries.. give me a break ... these other countries you speak of .. which ones are they.. because i bet that the goal of the "western countries" IS NOT to follow in any of their footsteps.
Would this be any different than burning books (seriously to regulate gaming is the same to me.)
The game is based on books from the 1920's.. I mean come on.. books, movies, INTERNET, cable TV, games .. screw it lets just all rip our eyes out and have laws and limits on EVERYTHING, because in the end sex in a game is the same as sex in a movie...
Who gives a crap what is in a game .. sex, nudity, drugs .. thats what ratings are for.
If anything games will soon become much more controlled which is past due IMO.. 2 major points....
1. Bottom line if the ratings are not enforced by the retail store then adult games or movies will fall into the wrong hands, just like beer .... that does not mean they they shouldn't make mature adult games....or beer ?
2. Parents need to do their damn jobs and censor what there kids do and watch.. its not Funcom's or any companies job..
Dont blame an industry for the choices goverments make .. if anything you shoul d thank them for pushing the limits, I do every time i turn on my PC or 360.
If you don't like it don't play it.
