Well anyone that Attended Las Vegas fanfare will know that EQ II will be around for years to come. Sony built it for the long haul and every expansion pack brings more new interesting things to do, and every expansion pack sees the audience grow.  159 million in profit last year 85% from subscriptions the vast majority of that from EQ II  (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/11/business/worldbusiness/11sony.html?n=Top%2fNews%2fBusiness% )  Means that despite the well funded and organized Anti EQ2/SOE machine  Everquest 2 is positioned as one of the top MMORPGs today.  SOE would not give exact numbers of subscribers but said they had broke the million mark quite sometime ago, and that number hadn't gone down.   SOE has EQ II’s next three expansion packs planned and funded that is confidence in your product.

No… EQ II cancel is just a dead hope of the SOE hate machine noting more.

...Warcrafts 7.5 million subscribers is truly awsome but you can't compare that to other mmos that had to build from the ground up.  Having a ready made base of fans from your tons of other games makes you an instant success.. if wow had opened with less than 2 or 3 million it would have been a flop considering all the rabid fans Blizzard has.

If the above was true then Star Wars would have a hell of a lot more subs then they do now. A hell of a lot more than WoW. Ohhh sure you can blame the NGE and all that but before that gaffe, SOE didnt have that many players either. Blizzard made a game that is easy, a game that you can pick up, do something quick and be done with it. They made it not tedious, bug free (tho their servers sucked and still sometimes suck.

Sure the fact they have a huge following and they are known to create good products help obviously. But it isnt the main drw or the reason as to why they got such a huge following. I have doubts that WoW will have a long and successful life as DAOC and EQ have had so far.

Sure Star Wars has alot more fans, but they are not necessary gamers. And the track record for Star Wars games in general is kinda bad.

with the amazing success of Vanguard SOE has decided to stop EQ2....

sounds like the logic that SOE uses but there is no way that a company would kill off its no1 earner and biggest advertiser.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

First off im not the huge EQ player, i like the games (both of them) but i dont appriciate soe.

Nevertheless i doubt stoping eq2 in a time, where its player count is growing,  and there appears

to be more ..  hmm   .  Attention on EQ2 lately. i really really doubt they would drop it.

And i do not think you can say its for benefit for another game, cause the people who run

EQ and EQ2 are not the same, same with vanguard (weird game) are a different crew, and

a entirely different account, im sure as long as the profit its at a (preagreed) ammount the

"headboard" or council what ewer they have, are letting them all go as pleased.

So difnitly a silly rumor, started by someone who wanted to just want a post or

a actuall soe/eq hater. who knows, who cares. i dont. but i cant belive this rumor.

    ------
Playing MMO's since my first which was Ultima online, then Anarchy online. and so on.. ;)
Now a days im very critical before i ewen bother downloading a Free to play mmo.

SOE is not going to cancel EQ2 anytime soon and as for the next expansion....it's not due out for at least 3 months. Open beta has yet to happen but you are right about it being the biggest expansion to date for the game

    2.  EQ2 playerbase is currently growing with new players coming over because they are getting bored with WoW.
    3.  EQ2  has it's biggest expansion ever coming out in two weeks.
    4.  EQ2  is one of the most successful MMORPG's available right now.
Will Sony decide to drop this project for no apparant reason?  HIGHLY UNLIKELY!

With all due respect to SOE and the poster but WoW is now the most successfull MMORPG right now.

He said one of.Not the most

Well duh thats a given isnt it? but i feel SOE see itself now as a publisher of MMO's rather than relying on one game and if thats the case SOE win that race hands down :)

Everquest 2 is the best MMORPG on the market.

It will be around forever just like EQ 1.

And sorry to make you look dumb. But I don't play WoW. So how could i possibly be beating my chest over it.  I was merely commenting on the amount of EQ2 fanbois who bash WoW just b/c it is more successful than the game they play.  Why don't EQ player spend their time bashing games like Dark and Light...nooooo. they bash a superior game that they wish the game they invested in had turned out to be.
Thats great yall like EQ2 better, but don't make yourself look cheap by trying to degrade a game that is 100 times more successful than yours.

Interesting.... so I bash WoW because its more successful, huh? I thought I bashed WoW because the game sucks. Silly me. Guess you know me better than I do. *rolls eyes*

Unbelievable how jealous you eq2 fanbois are of WoW.  Yah WoW had a player base before release.. but WoW didn get 8million+ suscribers by being a disappointment like EQ2 was.  And sorry, EQ2 didnt start from scratch....they had a starting player base from EQ1 fans.  But we all know.. the sequel is never better.
Wow is better managed, better coded, better developed.. and the list goes on... EQ2 is a mess of things the devs tried to throw together and make coherent.. only they tried to make the game so dynamic that they cant even balance or understand the games themselves.  You all think EQ2 is a better game b/c it has better graphics.... thast true.. but WoW is a better planned and made game. nuff said.
And you can argue all you want.. but ill listen to 8 million person's opinion over the 100,000 (if that) US players left playing EQ2.

Yawn.  It’s been covered many many times but the WoW fanbois just don’t seem o get it.  If you want to say a game is good you need to appeal to the things in the game that you think make it good.  Appeals to popularity are worthless for backing up a claim of quality.  In fact appeal to popularity is a well known logical fallacy, but any reasonably logical person will be able to figure it out on their own.  Maybe the kiddy logic has served you well in WoW but it won’t cut it here.

And better developed?  Are you serious?  All Blizzards top developers left the company years ago including the people  who made Starcraft, Diablo and got WoW to within 6 months of release.  To replace them Blizzard hired old EQ1 players that had no programming experience and lived in their mother’s basement.  OTOH, the EQ2 live team is the best in the business at the moment.

Lol, that's like saying "I've heard a rumor through the grapevine that there is a posibility of Blizzard discontinuing WoW"

A quick use of the noggin would tell you otherwise.

To wank, or not to wank. The ultimate MMO sacrifice.
