"if WoW is like The Beatles..."

HerodesHerodes Member UncommonPosts: 1,494

Stop! Wait! This is not a WoW-thread.

Some of you may have seen the WAR-video, where a dev (or whatever he was) stated like this:
"WoW is like The Beatles. If WoW is like The Beatles, WAR will be like Led Zeppelin."

If we continue with this analogy, what do you think about the other top hyped not released games? Mmmh, maybe we could make this even with released games, but that is for someone else.

So, if WoW is like The Beatles, then...

WAR = Led Zeppelin (?)
AoC =
Aion =
PotBS =
Tabula =
GodsnH =

    CoX = REO Speedwagon

Not as popular as is should be, but great for those that like it.

By the way Chicago had a huge storm a few weeks ago and I was driving in it, the DJ I was listening to played REO's riding the storm out.  I cranked it and had a great time.

If i recall correctly the Priapus guy queered the deal...?

but the conan Ip is a bit more serious than GWAR's over-topness dontcha think?

i remeber going to a gwar show even tho my fever was about 104? THAT was weird...(it was so packed I was actually steady on my feet) and the fake blood stained  -so for about a week you could tell from folks hair who'd been at the show.

PotBS = Yanni?  Yanni is a great musician, but he's not for everyone.  I was thinking PotBS was more like Andrea Bocelli.

ya maybe a bit over the top. although, seeing the demo on the finishing moves for about 10 minutes at dragon*con.. they were completely over the top.  then the discussion of dual wielding weapons and maul fatalities.. extremely over the top

I cant quote it exactly, but during the demo they said the artists were having way too much fun with the dual wielding fatalaties.  He described one as "cutting off one arm, then the other arm, then cutting off the legs, then the head.. and kicking the torso flat on the ground"

seems pretty gwarish to me :)

Cool!   I guess that makes EQ like Elvis

I think UO is like Buddy Holly.  Everyone that was a fan says he was good, but the rest of us really don't know or get it from what we've seen.

Although I love Led Zeppelin, fav band of all time....

WAR is not the Zeppelin of MMO's. Maybe if you're going by the "JIMMY PAGE STOLE BLACK MUSIC AND WAS LARGELY SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE OF IT", referring to "WAR STOLE WOW'S GAME TEMPLATE AND FIXED IT" then I guess you are correct.

But as far as I'm concerned, if you want to have a fun thread like this at least get real. WoW and WAR (in my opinion) are one of the same. Led Zeppelin and The Beatles are two completely different bands. So shouldn't the next step up from WoW be something more innovative? Call me biased but shouldn't it be more like Age of Conan...? ;)

You're off to the wrong start, re-title this "If WoW is like (insert any bubble gum pop band here) ....." and try again.

The Beatles comparrison can be tied to UO or EQ or ANYTHING other than WoW.

So, if WoW is like The Beatles, then... (you mean Nsync)

    AoC = Take your pick!

WAR = Disney theme tune maybe something sung by Elton John (sells lots but ultimately forgotten fast) or something hardcore like this: Teletubbies hardcore! because this is war you know!

Aion = Brokeback Mountain to look of love (80's) song

LotRO = Leonard Nimoy's Ballad of Bilbo Baggins

PotBS = The Worst Pirate Song

Tabula = Any Christmas Carol - (fashionable for 1 month only)

GodsnH = The G** Barbie Song

Spellborn= The Happy Birthday song (once a year peaks interest)

Darkfall = Darkfall Hardcore PvP - annoying wait

Just my opinions dont take them to heart! friendly banter!

It all depends on how you look at it.

WAR I would say would be more like Weezer, not because of the lyrics but the general sense of the songs. They go with the gameplay eerily in my opinion.  (Listen to them if you want to know why)

AoC would be more like Ramstein, dark, hardcore

AION. Pretty much any game theme song. Repetitive, doesn't really go anywhere but the next track, just something to fill space. (My Opinion)

PotBS I guess would be Sam Roberts. Good story, kind of mellow, fun parts, the pirates and the band both have beards, songs are usually kind of intricate but not too deep.

Tabula Rasa would be... well any 80's hair band. Get's hyped up then turns out to be incredibly dissapointing (I hate the 80's)

Gods and Heroes. I don't know but from what I've seen I'd go with something generic, just a rehash with different lyrics and one minor gimic (I haven't seen to much).

SpellBorn, I couldn't care less. (Cruel but, again, it's my opinion)

And WoW would have to be one of those bands, that everyone is copying and making all their songs generic trying to imitate. Even when the band wasn't that great to start, just famous.

It's my opinion so bite me. I was using hardcore in a kind of iffy situation. More Hardcore than WAR but less than DF. Oh and it's from Norway (I think).

Or if you're commenting on Ramstein being hardcore, you should know that I listen to the Hip and stuff like that. So by my standards it is.

I think it's a decent analogy, as it implies levels of diversity as well as popularity, not only evolution of genre.  The Beatles were new and exciting, but they were also the only sort of rock there was.  Led Zeppelin existed in a time when there were a few branches starting to grow, but rock still stuck to a few similar paradigms.

Nowadays, we have rock branching in all sorts of drastically different directions, many of which loathe one another, they have so little in common aside from their roots.  Everything from pop dance music to viking black metal.

I look forward to a time when MMOs vary that much, but its still a long ways off.  I think, whether intended or not, the comparison is more about time frame of an evolution than specific bands.  And calling any MMO a band like anything originating in the past 30 years is still way wrong.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

    LIFE DURING WARTIME

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons

packed up and ready to go

Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway

    a place where nobody knows

The sound of gunfire, off in the distance

I'm getting used to it now

Lived in a brownstone, lived in the ghetto

I've lived all over this town

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco

    this ain't no fooling around

No time for dancing, or lovey dovey

I ain't got time for that now
